WIW: My Muffin Top Formula

I smiled when I read Angie's post yesterday about how to hide muffin top issues because I had already decided what I was going to wear today and it covers several methods of hiding that annoying "spillage".

1. Mid to higher waisted pants: Wearing a pair of ponte knit straight leg pants with a rise that comes to my belly button. They have a real waist band and fly so are not like pull on yoga pants at all. The knit is quite substantial and as a result, doesn't show any wobbly bits.

2. Top that flows away from the mid section/hi low hemline: Today is the debut of the dalmation print cross over style blouse I ordered on Boxing Day. The style is very forgiving - I wish the pictures showed the way it flows and has such lovely fluidity.

3. Wearing a top with print: Well I definitely have that going on!

To go with my black and cream ensemble, I chose red accents with my boots, quilted handbag and lipstick.

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blouse: Dorothy Perkins petite
Trousers: Laura Petite
Boots: Sam Edelman
Handbag: Nine West (thrifted)

    Really pretty, Shannon!

Am I happy to see you Shannon! And this outfit is the perfect inspiration for me - crossover is my favorite style of top, I have a big sugar eye for black and white right now, I need red bootie inspiration and it is just wonderful to see your smiling face (I know I already said that :-))!

My favourite... white, black and red.  And of course it all works together :).

Also happy to see you posting regularly again.  Hope you're settling in to your job.

Yay, Shannon. There's lots to admire here, but most of all, your warm smile.
This post has convinced me to search out a cross-over blouse. It looks so lux and seems the perfect combination of muffin-hiding fluidity and structure too.
The red booties and bag brighten it all. You must smile when you see them.

I love to see you posting again, as much as I love your WIWs! This outfit is no exception to your high standards. Elegant, pulled together and of course with no muffin top visible. The addition of red really makes it sing.

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

YOU seriously have a muffin top ?  That you lie or anthing, but if you do, then you have been handling your "bits" for quite a while.  : )  You look fantastic. I just love the how the boots, pocketbook and lipstick are all a shade of red. Just beautiful.

All seems right with the world now.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Your also demonstrating the black and white that makes it's way into our closets this time of year!  Love the new top and the whole outfit, with it's touches of red.

Wow. Have I seen that blouse before, Shannon? I think it's my favourite Shannon-Blouse. So chic, ladylike and flattering. Gorgeous with the red accents and black trousers. You are an elegant and sharp creature.

ps. replied to your comment on my specs post, so go back and check when you have a moment.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Oh believe me ladies - I have plenty of muffin top to hide! Although may this soon after the holidays, it's more like Shortbread Cookies top - lol!

Shevia - this is my first cross over top and I have to say I'm pretty smitten. And you definitely need red booties - if you haven't got already that is!

Beth Ann - in my world, black and white is always at the forefront of my closet.

Angie - nope, you haven't seen this blouse before. Brand spanking new being debuted here. And I love it! I can see it working with my new black pencil skirt suit, with pencil skirts in general (oooohhhh...wonder how it would look with my cobalt pencil skirt?), jeans, etc. And I've never been a fan of polyester but this polyester blend feels fab against the skin and breaths quite well.

I also saw your comment about glasses - dark red it is!

Thanks all for your lovely comments and most importantly, the warm welcome back :)

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

I LOVE this, Shannon! But what's not to love about black and white with great red accents!

I recently bought a black and white striped crossover blouse that I haven't worn yet. I can only hope to look even half as good as you do here.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

*jumping up and down* I could hug you Shannon!!

You look lovely today ma'am :)

Yay! So great to see you again, Stranger :) Love the crossover top. I like how it has a shirtail hem in the back. I thought most of them were banded. You look chic and stylish as ever!
