WIW: Moody Return

Good morning lovelies :)

Well after a bit of a hiatus, I'm returning with a rather moody outfit - although please don't confuse my dark and moody ensemble with me - I'm feeling quite good today and probably a bit annoying with my chipperness (is that even a word???)

Anyway…on to the outfit…it started with my EF faux wrap jersey slouchy trousers (oh so comfy) and paired them with an EF silk tank in a grey tie-dye inspired print. In order to give some structure to the fluid top and bottoms, I added my leather blazer (with scrunched sleeves).

For footwear I went with my Doc Martens and chose my black leather w/gold hardware handbag. I finished off the outfit with my rose gold/black watch, gold wedding band, red specs and a swipe of red lipstick.

So what do you think? Too dark and dreary or does it work because of the different textures and the "lightening" effect of the red specs/lip? As always, all comment/suggestions welcome.

Trousers & tank: Eileen Fisher (eBay)
Blazer & handbag: Danier Leather
Boots: Doc Marten (eBay)
Watch: Fossil (eBay)

I think it works just fine! I am still kicking myself I never picked up one of those jackets.

  • donnat replied 9 years ago

    Gorgeous! Good to see you.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Funny girl! Like I'm going to say the outfits too dark ;). It's perfect! And your specs and lip are the perfect accessories. You are looking well, are you fully recovered? And I'm loving your hair, it's a little longer at the moment?

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 9 years ago

I was noticing that your hair is nice a little longer. And love the outfit -- not too dark at all.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Hiya! I missed that big smile! I am loving your hair too :) And yes the textures and shades make the outfit interesting and fun. Fantastic!

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

The bright lip and glasses, along with sunny smile, adds all the light you need. I really love that jacket on you Shannon and I am glad you are feeling better!

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

So glad to see you back! Love this ensemble. That jacket is fab, snd your smile, specs, and makep do indeed lift the outfit.

I was missing you, Shannon, and only found out about the shingles quite now. Me too, have had some personal issues and not many time to play around in it's all deepness, but I was wondering about you. I am late to the party, but I am like  feeling  your pain in retrospective, shingles are really no fun-my mother had them(and Claire, too)very painful... Now, I'm so happy to see you healthy and back to YLF. It does not need to be 100% or nothing. Life happens to all of us, but it's good to have a place where you can forget about pain and stress, or other unpleasant things during the day meanwhile charging up your creative  batteries:-).

BTW, I love the all dark, but rich in textures outfit! It feels really edgy to me, and LOL, I can see why Ceit is kicking herselff for not buying one of those  jackets.  And, look at your hair! It's a bit longer now, -do you want to grow it out? A bit of length makes a great difference, it's a bit softer now and  I love it, too! Hugs!

Bah, had a nice long answer and lost it.  Coles Notes:  You don't look dark and gloomy at all.  I love the toughness the Docs add to this.  And I'm glad you're feeling better.

Welcome back!  So glad you're feeling better!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

You look happy & peppy! SO happy to see you back! I was wondering how you were doing. I hope you are feeling well.

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

I agree that your smile, red specs and the skin tone add the lightness here. You look great!

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

Ooh, I really like that top.  It looks sort of edgy with the leather jacket and tapered pants.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Short version: You look great! How could "our" jacket ever look too moody?

And it is great to see you.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

A killer return from a lass who wears black and grey with the best of them. The red specs and lippie do a great job of adding some colour. xo

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Ceit - you would look fab in this jacket - in either the black or the taupe that Suz has. If I had known how much of a workhorse this jacket would be going on three years, I would have purchased it in the taupe as well. Maybe one will turn up on eBay for us one day???

Donnat - were you as surprised as I was this morning when I stepped out the door? It felt warm for November. And no snow on the ground yet - yay!

Deb - ha! I I knew you wouldn't find the outfit too dark :) I would say I'm about 80% recovered from my shingles. Feeling better every day although still quite tired. And yes my hair is getting quite long. My stylist is on an extended vacation and I normally get my hair cut every 4-5 weeks but it will be 8 weeks by the time I get it cut on November 20th (I couldn't get in with anyone else in the salon in the meantime). I'm going to ask some hair questions in a separate post and would love your input.

    Umlila & Neel - hmmmm....more hair comments...making me think...

Shevia & Meredith - glad to know the glasses and lips add color and lightness. What would I do without red lipstick???

lyn67 - you are such a sweetheart :) Do I want to grow out my hair, you ask? Maybe. As I mentioned to Deb, I'm going to post a separate hair thread so stay tuned.

Elizabeth - I think Docs will always have some part in my style. I too love the toughness they add to an outfit - but without being "in your face", you know?

Amy, Jackie, textstyle & Suz - thank you so much for lovely comments and welcomes back.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Angie - cross posted :) Thank you so much.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 9 years ago

Love it.  I particularly noticed how the color variations in the top mirror your hair.  You look fab Shannon.

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

Yay, I've been missing your posts and hoping the shingles would leave you alone soon. Glad you are feeling better!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Glorious outfit.  It's a work version of Rocker Chic, and it will offset your chipperness!

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

You know I love this.  You look great, glad to see you are on the mend.  The bright red really lights up your face!

  • replied 9 years ago

Yes, I'm loving this! It's great to see you back, Shannon. The longer hair does look super attractive on you. Is it slimming? Or have you lost more weight? Either way it looks fab!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

    Oh, this is totally great.
The detail I like is the curved hem of the tank. This really does something for the more cropped jacket over longer top, I think. (Making mental note). I don't do actual shirt-shirttails out at work,  but am really trying to collect some of the gently curved hems on items like knits and silk tanks/tops.

your adorable shannon-- i love the red with the stormy tunic--- super fun, super you.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Great outfit and I also love your hair! Short hair means its easy to tweak when you get bored just by waiting a little longer...

  • ElleH replied 9 years ago

Very cool darker harder edged outfit. Looks really good on you.

  • ElleH replied 9 years ago

oops posted in the wrong place. Moving it to hair post.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Dianthus - oh you have a great eye! I guess my hair is almost kind of tie-dyed with it's salt-n-pepper pattern.

Beth Ann - omigosh you made me laugh ...."offset my chipperness"!

Diana - this outfit makes me think of your All Saints tunic.

Claire - if I thought longer hair was slimming, I'd be sporting a Rapunzel hairstyle - lol!

unfrumped - I'm also loving curved hemlines these days. I find them less "jarring" than something that cuts straight across and also agree it works better with a shorter jacket. Plus it tends to skim over my apple-ness and hips a little easier.

Una - who knew that missing a haircut would turn into a change in style! Gotta love short hair for that.

Thanks for your lovely comments all :)

  • replied 9 years ago

Oh there you are! And looking mighty fine too. Glad you're on the mend now. You look great in the dark moody colours. Your beaming smile is testament to how you feel and look.

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Glad you are feeling better :) I really like the outfit - your attention to detail is second to none imo :)

  • replied 9 years ago

Hi !  Have missed seeing your smiling face!  I love your EF outfit, nothing too dark about it in my books!
