WIW: Monochromatic Texture

I haven't worn my dark brown-espresso coloured faux fur vest in ages and this morning suddenly felt like popping it on. Plus it's quite cold this morning so the idea of getting cozy in some faux fur was very appealing.

I started with my black footless leggings and topped those with my simple black knit pencil skirt. I then added a black jersey tank and my black drapey blouse thingy. On top of all of that, I popped on my faux fur vest. I absolutely love the luxe sheen on this vest.

Black patent booties, rose gold/black watch, red/animal print clutch, red specs and red lipstick are the finishing touches.

Now this is a lot of black in an outfit (not that I mind - lol!) but I think the mix of the patent from the booties, the slight sheerness of the blouse thingy sleeves and the shine and fur of the vest gives this monochromatic outfit textural interest and hopefully keeps it from being boring.

Would love your feedback on this outfit - all comments/suggestions welcome.

fun and warm - one thing my eye loves with monochromatic is when texture is added - the vest adds great visual texture and the black shiney boots.  of course being a bag lady your purse is a lovely pop of color.

I love a lot of texture in an outfit... works for me!  The pop of red is a really nice touch.

And I chuckle every time you talk about your "blouse thingy".

Glad you brought back your vest, I was asking Angie the other day about how to Springy -fy mine.
This is a lot of black , as you say, and a dark outfit. I guess the photo is missing most of the details that make the outfit interesting.
Fwiw, I think you carry a all black outfit very well, especially with one of your bolder lippies :)

Oooh I love faux fur! This outfit ticks all my boxes, I just wish I could see the textures a bit better in the full shots :(

I love texture in outfits; it's often an overlooked element in outfit creation.  I think it's a very modern way to wear the vest, too, and looks sleek and elegant.

Wow, this is quite the opposite of boring - this is how to do an all-black outfit. Love all the different textures, from the shiny patent, to the slightly sheer sleeves, to that gorgeous, luxurious, shiny fur vest (I love how it sits at your neck - so cosy). Then the pop of leopard and pink. You look great!

Love it!  This is the way to wear black !  Now that you mention it, I haven't worn my fur vest at all this winter - maybe I'll pop mine on too in solidarity :)  How did yours work under your coat?

Well I certainly don't mind a lot of black! I think the textures add a great deal of interest so I love it.

What do you mean "this is a lot of black"... is there ever enough black?? lol

This looks so good.  I am envious of your faux fur vest, they make me look huge.. you look great.   I find the textures here very attractive and as always you have just the right bag for the outfit.

Yup! This works. Love all the textures especially the vest.

Not boring at all. Textural interest for the win!

This is a great monochromatic look, the texture gives it interest.  I also think that best would be fun with a white shirt and jeans and leopard shoes for an outfit remix.

I'm a fan. The rich textures are fun and interesting. Have you tried the fur vest over a jacket or coat?

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Rich and textural! You wear black well so this is a very good look for you.

The textures all work so well together! I like the pop of colour from the clutch as well.
