WIW: Marble Midi

When I saw the famous Vince Camuto tube skirt show up in my local store in a new marble pattern, I knew I had to pick it up. These skirts are fantastic for the office and weekends alike, and can be dressed up or down. And the comfort factor is beyond fabulous.

This particular midi did not come in petite in my store so I did purchase the regular and decided I really like the longer length so don't think I'm going to shorten it. I paired the skirt with my graphic black and white ballerina drapey tee and then topped that with my faded denim jacket with leather sleeves, scrunched of course.

For footwear I went with my black pointy toe sandal shoes and chose my citron clutch for a pop of unexpected colour. Red specs and red lippie round out the outfit.

This is definitely on the casual side for work but on days where we don't have meetings and there are no "big wigs" coming into the office, this is more than acceptable. This would also work great for a weekend MOTG outfit.

So what do you think? Does this all work together? Should I shorten the skirt or leave as is? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Buffalo David Bitton
Tee: Smart Set
Skirt: Vince Camuto
Shoes: Fugitive
Clutch: Gap

Styling is fantastic, Shannon! The citron yellow accent is genius. The shoes are SO pretty. Your ankles look dainty! Lovely, lovely look...

    OMG! OMG! OMG! Fab2Fab! Plonk!!!

I either  wouldn't shorten that midi, it's particullary a very flattering length as it is! But love those shoes sooo much, that fab mix media denim jacket, oh and the tee!!! &The citron clutch!!! All fashion forwardly PERFECT!

    OMG, smelling salts, again- pls!:-)

Shannon, I love this print! I'm glad I am not shopping right now or I would have a hard time resisting even though I dress up rarely. Gorgeous. I also really like this length on you. To me, it looks modern.
This is very maximal and fun styling. Agree with Carla that the citron bag takes it to another level.

I really like this print too! Great outfit.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

Great outifti and no reason to shorten the skirt if you like it this length.  So great that you have days that you can be more casual like this!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Wow, this is amazing! Love the skirt. Shannon I was scrolling through your blog last night (specifically looking at your tops and thinking off your pastel suit) and I was really struck by just now well your wardrobe pieces work together. I had in my mind that your wardrobe is huge (and it may well be) and you rarely wear the same thing twice, but you infact regularly rotate your pieces in varying ensembles. And this skirt is going to work so well with your other pieces....I'm seeing cobalt with it too:)

  • donnat replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous! That yellow clutch really make the whole outfit. I love the whole outfit.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I really like this, Shannon! So much fun. You are spunky in it! Those shoes are immensely flattering to you. You're going to have so much fun with this skirt!

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

Ack, I love that skirt and now I want one. Even though I have a black and white marbelized print skirt (it's a drapey flared one with an asymmetrical hem, I think it's Michael Kors).

I love this more casual version of your style. Don't be surprised if you see a copycat version of this on me soon. :-)

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love this whole thing and every part of it!

  • Aquamarine replied 9 years ago

Fun, Shannon! Wow, those skirts look good on everyone. Maybe I should try one, even though I do not usually like myself in skirts.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

This outfit looks amazing. I like the skirt length on you and love that jacket.

  • dianne replied 9 years ago

Fabulous!!! Love the skirt length on you!

  • leopardluxe replied 9 years ago

Love it! I think the length of the skirt looks perfect on you as a midi length and the shoes go great with it. And once again I love how you've used bold black and white combos with a pop of yellow to elevate the whole look!

  • replied 9 years ago

Love the skirt print and your tee. And I'm loving the bit of edge. YLF!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Harmonious maximal!  Love the edgy pattern and ladylike shoes with the slightly RATE jacket.  The length still works because of the taper, I think.
    So fun!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

*clapping hands*  Y'all sure know how to make a gal feel good :)

lyn67 - your enthusiasm is so sweet!

Viva - it's funny, I didn't really think of this as maximal until you mentioned it. Interesting!

Deborah - wow, thank you so much :) I actually have a very small wardrobe, at least in my opinion, dictated by an extremely small closet. But I do mix and match all my pieces so it probably appears that I have more than I do. I think in the last year, I've gotten better at choosing items that will work in several ensembles and that has visually expanded my wardrobe. And I will definitely be wearing this skirt with cobalt!

Suz - spunky at 51? Love it!

Janet - I would be more than flattered to see you in a copycat version :)

Aquamarine - I think these VC tube skirts are nothing short of magical. Would definitely be worth you trying one on just to see what you think. You might be surprised :)

Beth Ann - the taper definitely helps a shortie like me wear this skirt length.

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments and feedback. You will be seeing a lot of this skirt!

100%bobbydazzler. This is amazingly fantastic. Superlatives fail me. This has got to be one of your Best Evers.
    Swoon.
    Plonk.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Amazing! Love Love Love! Might have to check out that skirt at The Bay.... I think I've said it before but I love those shoes. You look amazing.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Wow! I love the visual textures in this outfit! Brilliantly styled and that pop of citron is genius!

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Oh Shannon, this is FAB!  Love the pop of colour with your clutch.

I keep getting tempted by that skirt, but I have the black/white dalmation or whatever animal it is print one from last year, and really think the two serve the same purpose.  However I love the marble!  But you are NOT helping.

I'm also surprised you have a small wardrobe, you really do mix and match masterfully.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Back to you, Shannon, could you pls provide a link(or at least a better pictie for my own  refference) to these great wedged sandals? Thanks so much!:-)

  • Lantana replied 9 years ago

OK, so picking myself up off the floor to try and explain what I see that is so appealing.
It's not a traditional black and white outfit; black and white swirl through the skirt and, on a larger scale, through the tee. They contrast in the jacket, the black sleeves adding a strong vertical line to the upper body. This line is balanced and complemented by the depth of the dark skirt. I love the movement that results from the play of black and white. The black shoes with their curved straps are part of this interplay too. Would the outfit be as successful without the yellow clutch? No, this is an inspired flourish, a cheeky brightener to the grunge vibe of the neutrals.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Hey lyn - I don't have a link to the shoes as they are no longer available where I purchased them. But there is a better close up shot of them in this post of mine http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....lack-flats about halfway down. The brand is Fugitive by Francesco Rossi.

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

Great skirt. I might become a lemming on this one.

  • rae replied 9 years ago

Wow, super duper cool. The marble print is almost like an acid wash and plays with the denim jacket in a really spunky way.

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Super flattering, Shannon! Length and styling are perfect!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Killer to the power of Killer

WOW. If another petite says they can't rock a midi - well - they need to see unstoppable you. xo

  • abc replied 9 years ago

Love this!  I hadn't seen that version of the VC midi before.  Super.  Love the yellow, too.  I'm a big fan of yellow purses, owning two myself. :)

  • Robidi replied 9 years ago

Perfect!  Love the midi on you.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Good gracious ladies - you got me blushing here :)

Lantana - thank you so much for your visual breakdown of why the outfit works. I have to be honest though and admit I didn't put that much thought into it - I literally put the pieces on together and went "yeah, I like that" - lol!

Shedev - lemming away! This skirt is fab and you won't be disappointed.

Rae - I didn't think of that - the pattern is a bit reminiscent of acid wash. Cool!

Angie - oh my...thank you so much for the K2K rating! I would have to say that this length of skirt is probably now my favorite. Who knew???

Thank you all so much. I am feeling rather "spunky" today and I'm so grateful that my new workplace allows me to dress like me and express myself a bit with my style - within limits of course.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

It's soooooo elegant on you, Shannon. Love that it's your fave. xo

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I really like the length of the VC tube on you. Those skirts are magical, aren't they?! This entire outfit looks ultra fab and ultra modern. I'm also loving that denim jacket!

  • columbine(erin) replied 9 years ago

I love the taper and length of the skirt on you and the shoes are very flattering with it. You could wear some other booties that cut straight across the lower leg and I'm sure it would work, but I'm taking notes how flattering this outfit is as you have styled it.

  • Ledonna N. replied 9 years ago

Picking my mouth up off the floor.  I might also borrow this look lovely for the weather here in Chi-town.  So dark but, so light at the same time.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

First off, that jacket is ridiculously awesome. Looks superb against the very elegant midi skirt, and otherwise pretty (and graphic) outfit. Totally love the BRIGHT yellow clutch with this, especially with the giant tassel. Such a fab look!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

    SOOOOOOOOOO cool.

  • Kiwichik replied 9 years ago

Looove this outfit not sure which part I'm the most enamoured with - hmm I think the skirt, hmm no the jacket - geez I don't know.

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

Ok, firstly I need to recover from the sandals. I want! No, forget that - I need these. Btw, do they mean it's finally warm in your corner of the planet?

I love the outfit. Great decision to buy the regular size skirt, if you ever tire of this length you have the option to shorten it later... actually, this could even be you future shopping strategy :-)

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

I was going to say one of your best but they are all your best :) YLF TS really fab:)

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

Late to the party, but WOW that is gorgeous!! i just love that skirt, and the pop of yellow is amazing.

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

I love the shoes and midi together!  Too bad they injured your foot and you can't wear them anymore.

  • Greyscale replied 9 years ago

I came here from your shoe post, and I'm so sorry the shoes hurt you. But. That is one FABULOUS outfit! I am so impressed.

  • Andrea W replied 9 years ago
