WIW: Lots o' Navy & more bare legs

Today's outfit started with my new dark blue denim pencil skirt (Old Navy). I wanted a denim skirt that was dark enough and classic enough to go to the office but still pair with tees and flats on the weekend.

I paired my skirt with my navy with pink lips peasant style blouse and topped that with my navy blazer (Reitmans Petites). The blazer brings in a bit more "office" to the denim skirt.

New nude kitten heels (Clarks), vintage Coach handbag and Lia Sophia multi bead bracelet finish off the outfit.

All thoughts and feedback most welcome :)

I feel your style eventually has came back to the starting point of a modern classic fabness just kicked in with a dash of  edge (with the wavy pink hair and  fun bracelet). New pieces are great finds, and YLF, Shannon!:-)

Beautiful! I wasn't able to comment on your post yesterday, so want to say you look fab bare legged. I like your new shoes, too. Finding the right shade of nude can be challenge, and you nailed it.

The denim skirt was a smart purchase. It looks fabulous on you… and is perfect for casual Fridays at the office, as well as for summer weekend wear. Your pink lips blouse makes me smile. :-) Love your bracelet and nude kitten heels. They are nice finishing touches on this outfit.

Wow Shannon, your legs look dynamite in these shoes! The color and toe are just right and they work perfectly with the skirt length. There is something very modern classic about this look, especially with your new turn on the bob. Very beautifully styled head to toe. Love it!

Great skirt Shannon, you'll wear that a lot.  I like how you've made it very professional here with the navy jacket and pumps.  I predict we'll see it with sneaks and a graphic tee before long :)

I really like how you styled your hair today as well.  YLF!

    "Modern classic"....hmmmm....interesting :)

Thanks for the positive feedback ladies. I feel very fortunate to have found both the skirt and heels. I've been looking for the right denim skirt for a couple of summers now and they all skewed too casual or too short for me. This one was perfect.

And nude kitten heels that are comfy and the right shade of nude is like finding the Holy Grail. Was thrilled with these and the comfort factor is stellar.

I hear you about the Holy Grail of shoes. I'd love the right nude kitten heel in a slingback - still holding out.  And I agree with the others - your legs look great in this skirt length and with this bit of heel - and I'm in awe of the bare legs today .  I just turned the heat on in the house it's so chilly!

You look SO good in a pencil skirt, Shannon. Professional, sharp and polished.

Love the nude shoes! so flattering. You look great!

Shannon, this is your signature look. Beautifully put together, a hint of retro (bag), a hint of edge (denim), a hint of feminine whimsy (blouse) and modern classic pieces (jacket, shoes) to anchor the fabness. Fantastic outfit on you.

I love the nude heels and the dark skirt!  The pink lips are such a fun print.

The bracelet - fab! Your hair - adorbs!

Does "modern classic" scare you, Shannon? I hope not! ;)

For me, the retro in this outfit is very much in the classic vein: kitten heels, pencil skirt, structured satchel, blazer. But the modern edge comes clearly in with the lip blouse, the purple streaks, and the bracelet. To me, it's a very happy marriage, but maybe "edgy classic" is a better name for it.

Lisa - can you believe we were +35 last week and now they're saying the possibility of snow tomorrow or Friday??? Egads! No need to worry about my bare legs though - I have my own internal heater, if you know what I mean :)

Angie - thank you so much. I do think that the classic pencil skirt shape works well for my particular body shape. I know I always feel best in a pencil skirt.

Suz - don't you think it's interesting that after all the trial and error of different styles and silhouettes over the past 5 years on YLF that I have returned to my signature look? So this leads to me to ponder - can you stick with a signature look and just update with tweaks here and therefore before looking dated or getting bored??? Hmmm...might have to start a separate conversation on this issue...

    Thanks Olga, Sara and Sylvie!

Viva - cross posted! Modern classic doesn't scare me in the least! I think I was just kind of surprised that's what it was for some reason...

  • viva replied 7 years ago

Whatever it's called, it's fab on you. That's all I really know. :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 7 years ago

You are so sweet Viva - thank you.

This is the BEST denim skirt outfit I've ever seen. So polished! I think the shoes really pull together this look. Fab choices here, Shannon. Every single aspect of this outfit is PERFECT on you

Just look at that leg line in those nude shoes!  Never cover those legs again.  (and now...i am drawn.....to Clarks.....I cannot help myself....)

    Great Coach bag.

I think we can definitely tweak a signature look to update it. That's what the "modern" in "modern classic" is all about! It's incorporating trends and adapting with new cuts in our old favourites. Which is precisely what you have always done, even when experimenting with drape, etc. You always had a touch of structure and a core set of items -- pencil skirts, slim trousers, fab footwear, jackets.
