WIW: Inspired by Amy

I have the same tomato red Gap blazer as Amy does and also found I wasn't reaching for this jacket much in the last year. But I was inspired by her brilliant pairing the other day with animal print and decided to copy that idea.

I chose my animal print pencil skirt and a simple black knit tank. I then added nude hose and my knee high flat boots. On top of that I added the Gap blazer, scrunched the sleeves and chose my rose gold/black watch and gold wedding band for jewelry. My handbag is my trusty old black and white leather one.

Thanks for the inspiration Amy - maybe this blazer deserves to come out of the holding zone after all!

This outfit has identified a wardrobe hole though. I don't have any knee high black dressier boots with a heel and definitely would have preferred that type of boot with this outfit.

Anyway, over to you - what do you think? Does it work together? Does this blazer deserve to stay in my wardrobe? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Gap
Tank & skirt: Sears
Boots: Blondo
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Watch: Fossil

Another winner, Shannon. The jacket fits your body beautifully, and the colour is great, so I would vote keep. I'm sure you can find ways to make it play...try with jeans and a striped T for casual Friday or a weekend look.

Don't you love that skirt? We are skirt twins!

PS: I quite like it with your boots, they are quite sophisticated for a flat boot.

Oh I love this Shannon! I do love a bright red, and it looks amazing with the skirt and boots.

  • replied 10 years ago

Wow! Love this. You look so vibrant and happy. I like the playful animal print skirt and of course your red lippy echoing the red blazer.

  • El Cee replied 10 years ago

Oh yes... please do keep this blazer. You look so stunning today! The tomato red looks amazing with the animal print. To my eye, the Blondo boots look great with the outfit... but I do hear you on the desire for a dressier pair. (I am also on the hunt for the same.) Like that you chose nude hose as the little peek of leg between skirt and boots really adds something to the overall look. And I love your bright lipstick. It adds pizzazz.

Oh for goodness sake, keep this blazer! This is a fantastic outfit in every way. I love how happy you look in every photo you post; really, I want to be that joyful every day!!!! You look gorgeous, I love the red with your red lipstick, and I love your boots too, although I too have that same hole in my closet, so let me know if you find the elusive heeled black leather boots.

Did you know YLF Shannon, no matter what you throw on!:-) This outfit is so inspiring for me. I love the red blazer, but the animal pecil is what caught my eyes here-I love that it is a (at least to me) new version of the print on  a white/cream ground, instead of the more common and havier looking darker backgrounds. All these paired with nude hose, means a perfect sunny fall outfit to me. Airy and beautifull, still warm enough. Bravo!

Please hang on to that red jacket. It fits well and will brighten a dark day. Besides, you could wear it a lot for the holidays.

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

That outfit is amazing.  Love it.  Looks a bit MaryK.

  • RunswithDolphins replied 10 years ago

What's not to like?  That jacket looks amazing on you too.  I can't imagine why you haven't worn it more often.  I'm sure Amy is flattered that you followed her wonderful lead in putting together this great outfit.  Love the touch of the red lipstick too!

This outfit is so cool Shannon!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Carla - I didn't know you bought this skirt too! How fab! And like MaryK says, animal print really is a neutral!

El Cee - interesting about your comment regarding the nude hose. I actually had on black sheer hose first and found they "dragged down" the outfit some. Thanks for noticing!

Viva - you are so sweet :) I am a pretty happy person so I'm glad it shows.

lyn67 - that's exactly what drew me to this skirt - the lighter background. I find the light background color actually makes the skirt easier to pair with other colors too, as opposed to the black background print.

Looks like there's a few of us on the hunt for a knee high dressier boot. Good luck to all of us!

I've decided that a red lip is definitely a signature of mine.

Thanks all for chiming in with your comments and feedback - guess I'll keep the blazer :)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Yes, keep the blazer - it just makes the whole outfit glow!

The Yang to Amy's Ying. So bright and cheerful. 11 out of 10.

Grabbing items out the Holding Zone seems to be the theme of the week. xo

Gah! Love this!! I would wear it from head to toe!! In fact, you'd better put a lock on your closet lest I sneak North and clean you out!! And my goodness, you are looking so slim and svelte these days!! :)

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Shannon, you look marvelous! It's funny how we both were feeling iffy about the jacket. That bright red looks fantastic on you, so I hope you'll bring it out to play more often. :)

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

What a delicious combination, love the jacket, the skirt, the top, the boots, the bag........perfect all round :)

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Ooh, you look fantastic! Love this combination on you. I totally get the need for dressy tall boots, but I quite like the vibe of the Blondos here.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

This is fabulous on you, Shannon! Absolutely lovely. Bright, fresh, and fun. I am still in love with that skirt!!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Glad you are keeping it :) YLF really fab.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

    LOVE IT!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Wow, Shannon, this is marvelous!  Bright and happy and sophisticated all at once.  And the boot fit is stellar... so sleek.  I love it.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Just checked the Sears website --- it's nothing like it is in Canada.  Sigh.  Let that comfort you the next time you calculate shipping charges from the US!

This is a stellar outfit, and bright blazers are such a pick me up when the weather gets gloomy.

As for boots -- love the Blondos on you, and, while it would be nice to have a heeled version, these are quite sleek.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Lovely. I adore the skirt paired with the red and black. Clearly I need a leopard print skirt! The jacket is fabulous on you fit and color. Reach for it more often.

  • Robidi replied 10 years ago

Oh my goodness!  The color of the jacket is just stunning on you.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Well I haven't been around in a long while, but goodness why isn't that vibrant jacket getting reached for! Always sharp looking with white and black, and especially sharp with your printed pencil. I get what you're seeing with the boots, but I do quite like the sleek flat boots here; it is a bit more unexpected. A cream blouse would also look lovely here, if you wanted an even brighter outfit ^^

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

AAAAHHH Aida - how nice to hear from you! I've missed you like crazy :)

Thank you all. Sorry I wasn't able to get back to this thread yesterday.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Red and animal print is always a winner in my books. There is just something so chic, elegant and modern about it. You look fab.

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Oh my gosh! You've got to keep this jacket!
I'm so glad that Amy inspired this outfit, because it is a keeper!
    One of your best!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Tomato red and animal print! How can it get better than that!
