WIW: Grey Patterns

It is quite cold today so pulled out my grey Glen plaid wide legged trousers. I know I mused lately that I'm not a trouser gal but I do have a few pair that fit well and that I feel good in - these are one of those pairs.

I decided to go with a grey patterned outfit today so added my charcoal grey herringbone patterned blazer with dark grey elbow patches. This was a thrift find last year that Wonder woman altered by taking in the bust dart and shortening the sleeves. For some colour, the layer under the jacket is a bright blue cowl neck tank. For a wee bit more colour, I've added my yellow/cobalt snakeskin print clutch - which also has some dark grey in its snakeskin print pattern. I've added a black leather belt and my vintage black/silver brooch for some more visual interest. For footwear, I've got on my trusty and comfortable Clarks heels.

What do you think? Proportions and combination work to your eye? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Gap (thrifted)
Tank: Jessica (Sears brand)
Trousers: Reitmans (thrifted)
Belt: Danier Leather
Clutch: Trouve
Shoes: Clarks

I like everything about the outfit.

You look great! I especially like the brooch. It's an unexpected accessory that really elevates the outfit.

OMGoodnes, the way that cobalt top matches the zipper on your clutch is making me swoon! You need to keep that baby propped up on your desk all day. The cut and fit of that blazer is divine. I love the way the bottom edges curve outward. I'm glad you have a few pair of trousers that you feel really good in. The high heels make them hang so nicely.

You look terrific, Shannon! Claire is right - it's the little details that make the difference, and once again, here is where a large wardrobe with many choices gives you a little boost in styling. To be able to match the stripe in the bag to the blouse that way makes the whole thing so much more cohesive. It's subtle, but it's classy!

I really like this ladylike, slightly retro jacket. The blouse is a divine colour on you. And yay for the brooch and for having pants that fit. In a cold climate, we really do NEED trousers. So don't give up on them entirely. Not when you can look this good in them!

I think you hit it out of the ballpark!

Shannon, you are so good at accessories! I am taking notes.
The jacket and trousers look like a perfect fit, and I really like the look of the cowl neck under your the jacket.

Darn you, indoor photography! I would love to get a close up of the subtle pattern mixing going on here with the pants and the jacket -- my kind of pattern mixing!

Everything fits so beautifully on you, and the thought you've put into the entire outfit really shows (you matched your clutch's zipper to the top?!?! *faints*). Great outfit!

Charmian - yep, indoor photography with fake light just doesn't show the subtleties, does it? Mind you, the hour at which I take my pic is still pitch dark outside so this is still a step up from the natural lighting available at that time - lol!

I'm impressed with your eagle eyes ladies catching the cobalt zipper on the clutch matching the top....I was wondering if you'd notice that and of course, you didn't disappoint!

That purse is bad ass. I LOVE it! It works so well with the cobalt and the gray. The draping at the neck is also a really nice detail. Very, very cute as usual.

I love the blazer. My black blazer is herringbone too and I just love the texture.

I would like to see the blazer with yourmustardblouse and blue booties next :)

Love it all. The colour of the blouse is beautiful on you.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

Love this, especially the details in the close-up shot. And that bag with that blouse? Divine!!

  • Atlantia replied 11 years ago

Love love love the cobalt trim in the clutch with the top. And is that your usual lipstick? Seems so bright, I love it! I wonder if the cobalt is making it pop?

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Love how the shirt matches the clutch zipper, and something about the belt and brooch are just right to my eye. Another great one!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Amy!!!! Oh my goodness - how great to hear from you!

Ceit - you always come up with the best suggestions for another outfit! So....same blazer, mustard blouse, blue booties - same trousers?

Atlantia - you get the gold star today! It is NOT my usual colour of lipstick. I'm trying a new shade - a reddish/burgundy/maroon colour. Does this mean you like it?

Thanks for your comments Day Vies, Caro, Sona, MaryK and Shevia!

This looks wonderful on you. The rich turquoise with the herringbone blazer, glen plaid pants, and animal clutch is rich in texture and fun details. Love!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Loving the blue on you. The fit of each item is perfect and the brooch adds just the right touch.

Having trouble keeping up at the moment but so glad I didn't miss this:). This is exquisite! This silhouette is beautiful on you Shannon. The wide leg pant and the shape of that jacket, the broach and the shock of cobalt. I hope this outfit goes on repeat!

  • replied 11 years ago

Yeah, same trousers or try some of your others too :)

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

I went straight to the third pic and fell in love with the sumptuousness of all of it, so no wonder that as a whole outfit it is super dooper fabulosity! I'm really appreciating the streamlined looks and low-key colors of recent outfits here.

    A gold star from Shannon....*blush*
I really love the new lippie, it manages to be a dark winter color, yet brighten up your face. Not an easy task!
