WIW: Green Ikat, Black Leather, Silver Sheen

Today's outfit started with my green/black Ikat print dress from Cleo Petites. It is definitely one of my favourite dresses. I topped it with my black leather blazer, which I have to say is one of my best purchases EVER. I'm so glad I splurged for this jacket. I'm wearing black diamond pattern tights and my tall black leather Blondo boots for footwear. On top of everything when I head out the door is my shiny silver grey trench coat. I'm wearing my black/white leather handbag and jewelry is just a ring.

What do you think? Does this all work together? Is it too heavy with the black tights? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Trench: Ricki's (thrifted)
Leather Jacket: Danier Leather
Dress: Cleo Petite
Tights: Hue
Boots: Blondo
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

It certainly works to my eye:). I have always liked the look of black opaque tights and black boots or booties and while it can look heavy at times, this works well as there is the black in the dress and the black jacket. There is a very nice "flow" to this outfit.

I think the gorgeous green in the print dress keeps it from being too black and adds the visual interest. You also have great texture in the boots and the leather jacket is fab as always. I really like it. We must have been feeling a bit of a premonition because I was contemplating an almost all black outfit today too.

That is a great outfit, and the green is a perfect shade for you. I really like the leather blazer too, I need a blaze but never thought of going leather. Very nice piece though!

Looks great and I especially like how the touch of white in the bag lightens things up!

I love it! The green dress and blazer look great on you. And trench is great jacket to wear over it all.

Oh my goodness, those boots are so sleek that I first thought you were wearing tights and shooties! You look fabulous, and that trench is beyond divine!

  • Susie replied 11 years ago

I said it the last time you wore them too.....I LOVE those boots! I also love that silver trench. I think the whole outfit looks great together.

Shannon Do I need to say you look fab :)

BTW you always have me wondering, would you wear these outfits if you have to use public transport in say 5 degree :)

Ramya - you betcha! And I have. It's not that cold here yet. I definitely dress for the weather having been in Manitoba my whole life. I have no desire to be wet or cold.

    Thanks for popping in ladies!

Thanks Shannon :) Can you tell that I am taking notes on what to wear in Norway :)

    Great outfit. love the jacket!
It looks like the boot almost meets the dress, so I think the flow from black tight to boot is necessary. I've been struggling with this lately with some dresses and skirts that hit below the knee worn with tall boots (for lack of other options). I find the tight must match the boot.

Just super! I love your color combos, and bonus accessories shots. Kitty looks smitten with you.

    KILLER

I'm glad you splurged on that black blazer :)

Your new clutch from MIL would look fun with this outfit too.

I had to add - further to the black discussion - although I am trying to move away from black for coats & basics, I really think this jacket has so much impact and is so beautiful in black. I can't imagine any other highly wearable "neutral" having the same effect. I guess black leather is a classic, for me anyway.

Julie - Gain the kitty follows me everywhere and does his best to be in every WIW post!

Angie - ack! Didn't even think of the new clutch. Guess that's why you're the stylist - lol!

Jules - I totally agree about black leather being classic.

Shannon, since opaque tights are a must for me in winter, I have zero problem with the look and wear it often. Did I miss the leather blazer?! It's fantastic! When did you get it and how else have you worn it? Looking for inspiration for my Theory blazer!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I'm very glad you splurged on the jacket, too, it is a thrill to see how perfectly it fits and flatters you every single time. Love that trench, too!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Una - here's the original K/R thread on the leather jacket http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....r-jacket-2 and I just started wearing it recently now that the weather is cool. I've only worn it a couple of times so far - here's some pics for you.

    Thanks Rae!

I love this! That jacket is awesome!! As are the boots! And the bag, and the dress...

very yumm-o!!! I love ikat as a seasonless item rather than limited to summer and spring only. Great interpretation here!

Hot dang! What an incredible dress, what an incredible outfit! I'm in awe - the blazer, the boots! Love, love, love!

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I absolutely love how you styled this dress. This looks absolutely wonderful. (Then again I have been in love with teal lately).

I can't begin to pick apart why I love this ensemble so much, but I will try. Let's start with the cat who sneaked in the collage photo :-) OK first there's the sleek, stark cut of the jacket layered over a more organic/ornate matte dress. Of course there is color. Then there is more texture with the boots and good tension with the graphic structured bag and the organic pattern in the dress. This is a home run. Bravo!

love #1 and #2...hitting all the high notes here.

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

Love this dress paired with black leather. They are made for eachother!! How are the boots working out for you? They look great here. Usually when I wear a leather jacket, I don't also wear knee high leather boots. Just my thing I guess.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Day Vies - thank you so much for your analysis. I enjoy hearing what others see. And yes, Gain (my kitty cat) tries to get into every shot. He's such a diva!

Rita - the boots are working out really well. It's too bad they didn't work for you but your new booties are GORGEOUS so as long as we're both happy, right?

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

I got the Marvin K ones that are almost identical to the blondo's. We can still be boot twinnies :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

LOVE! Can't get over how perfect this leather jacket is for you ^^

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

This is another great outfit! I also love that dress and love our fab jacket! I may have to go check out Danier to find a jacket for Christmas! ;-) I also hope to find some boots that fit me as perfectly as those do on you!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Jem - you got the same jacket??? Isn't it gorgeous?
