WIW: Graphic print & polka dots

Today's outfit started with my black sheath dress - the better fitting and slightly dressier of the two black sheath dresses I have. It's funny how I'm not reaching for my printed or more body con dresses these days but I do still feel like wearing a simple black sheath….hmmmm….

Anyway, I've topped the dress with my graphic print blazer and added my large polka dot hose for a bit of fun. For footwear I chose my black patent booties and then finished off the outfit with a grey/silver bangle and my black/white leather handbag.

I'm leading a tour today involving both health care professionals and the general public and wanted an outfit that achieved the balance between professionally appropriate and fun/approachable. Did I get it right?

Blazer: RW&Co.
Dress: Jones New York (thrifted)
Hose: Hue
Booties: Ara
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Bangle: thrifted

How can it not be fun when polka dots are involved?! You nailed it, girlfriend! The black sheath dress and vest are professional, yet the booties, hose, and the red on the vest are fun.

Fabulous pairing, Shannon - you'll knock 'em flat on that tour.

You look terrific. I think a patterned jacket can be a magical piece. It does exactly what you say -- projects professionalism and fun at the same time. You look especially good in these jackets and cardigans that read as vests (with the black sleeve) - I'm thinking of your leopard cardigan as well. It becomes just enough, and not too much, pattern. Good luck with the tour!

Btw, this outfit makes you look sooo looooooong.

I really love the polka-dot hose with the booties!

Well isn't that interesting? I didn't notice that the jacket reads as a vest until looking at the pictures. You're right Suz - it's the same idea as my animal print cardigan. I'll have to keep that in mind for future purchases.

Ornella - I look loooooong? How rare - lol!

Thanks for the comments ladies. Glad to hear this outfit works for the events of the day.

Great outfit - I love the inner column of black! Yes, the jacket reads as a vest, I like the effect on you. I think you got the balance just right. Hope your tour goes (went?) well!

I love this and agree with what Suz says entirely - I noticed if but couldn't articulate it. Thanks Suz!

You had me at "graph print AND polka dots"!  So fun.

Great details, Shannon:  the dots, the shine in the patent, the graphic print.  It still reads as one strong, modern statement.  Love it.

Yes! Approachable because of the patterned tights and colorful vest, professional because of the simple, shiny shoes and simple dress form.
