WIW: Girly Army

I realized when I put this outfit together that between my pullover which has a camo inspired print and my Docs, which are reminiscent of combat boots - I'm wearing a girly army outfit!

It's actually warm enough today to wear a skirt, albeit with nude hose for a bit of extra leg warmth. I popped on my black knit pencil skirt and added my mixed media green camo-esque pullover with 3/4 sleeves. I chose my Doc Marcie boots for footwear since I can wear them both outdoors and indoors - what a treat to not have to change my footwear when I get to work! I finished off the outfit with my black/white oversized watch and black/white leather handbag. I'm hoping the snippets of white keep the outfit from being too dark for spring.

When I head out the door I'll be wearing my Burberry inspired scarf and berry cashmere coat.

I think this works - what do you say? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Pullover: Dex
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Hose: Hue
Boots: Doc Martens
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Watch: Calvin Klein (thrifted)
Outdoor coat: Anne Klein

Girly army!  One of my absolute favorite style combinations!

    Go, Shannon.   :)

Looks nice Shannon! I like the longer hemline on the top with the skirt. It changes up your usual proportions in a fun way. Even though you've hidden the waist, you still can show your lovely legs and ankles, and that makes the outfit.

I absolutely adore this "Girly Army" look and may have to copy it. You look amazing! The olive and black tones look fabulous paired with your berry coat.

That sweater is so beautiful. Love it!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Great look! Nice proportions and I just adore this boots. I think they are fave Doc Marten style. Edgy, unexpected pairings yet still very sleek and professional.

Left, Left, Left, Right, Left........  You have me marching in step with this one!
The silhouette of that top is great -- easy, but still refined.  The Marcie's, too, at a great blend of strong and refined.

My DS is obsessed with camo, and is sitting beside me at the moment in his head to toe grey camo base layer.  With his sinewy, boyish skinny legs, it's quite the picture.  He'd wear it all day long if I let him, but that's a home school stereotype I won't indulge!  Pants are necessary for math!

That berry cashmere coat looks so yum on you!! And yay for the tough chic look. I especially like your choice of boots.

    OOh -- a WOOL COAT!!!!!!

Sorry. I just get excited when people can take off their puffers these days....

You look great in this. The whole thing.

    So 2014.

You rock this look, Shannon. Love the nude hose. Fresh. xo

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

Love the spring look with the nude hose!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

A winning look! I love to read how you decide to put outfits together and tend to the details like the bits of white to keep it light enough.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

Love this :) olive is a colour I love and have been thinking about adding more to my wardrobe. I love this dressed up combat style and great to see my favorite boots out and about.
I've tried to purchase a pair over here but here are none to be found. :(

You are so fab. I love everything about that outfit. Where'd you get the tee?

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

love the way the tee and the boots both speak to the army part, but pairing with a skirt softens both up. an other fab outfit.

    This is a good one!

Really like this outfit Shannon - you are a wiz at putting cool combos together - girly army is a hit.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Terrific outfit, and even better that you can wear it with nude hose.

Can you send some of that weather my way?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Looking good, soldier! Especially love the "red coat," which is still on theme, methinks.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

March onward! You look amazing! I need to dig out my camo sweater which is too lightweight for winter but will be good for spring...

  • LACeleste replied 10 years ago

Great look Shannon!  I love how you always have exactly the right bag!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    Oh wow! Thanks everyone :)

Ceit - I really like the proportions in this combination too. This is my perfect combo of fluid and structure.

Deborah - these Doc boots have been workhorses for me since I bought them about 2 1/2 years ago. One of my best purchases.

Beth Ann - "pants are necessary for math" - lol!

Suz - imagine my excitement in NOT wearing my puffer today!!!

Angie - oooohhhhh...I like being so 2014 :) I'm thinking this outfit has the irregular juxtaposition (pencil skirt with tougher boots) and fluid fit (the pullover) that are part of the 2014 definitions?

Thistle - well....warmer weather is all relative. It was only -17 celcius this morning. You sure you want that???

Rae - omigosh! I didn't even THINK of that! I'm in Russian Red Army colors when you include the coat!

    Thanks again everyone.
