WIW: Foxy Lanai

This is the type of outfit I'm craving these days - simple trousers with a fluid top and a structured topper to rein it all in.

I started today's outfit with my Jay Manuel dress trousers - they are a hybrid of bootcut and wide leg and IMHO just the right amount of volume for a short legged gal. I added my foxy tee with a "lazy full tuck" (my term for a full tuck and then pull a bit of the top back out to create a slight blouson effect) and my black leather belt. On top of that I'm wearing my navy Theory Lanai blazer. Love pairing navy and black - although poor hubby's comments this morning was "you know your jacket and pants don't match, right?"…sigh...For footwear I'm back to heels so am wearing my back patent booties. I chose my black handbag and jewelry is my rose gold/black watch and gold wedding band.

So what do you think? Does this all work together? Does it bother you that the pants and jacket don't match? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Theory
Tee: Olsen Europe
Trousers: Attitude by Jay Manuel
Belt and handbag: Danier Leather
Boots: Ara

I love how the gold on the tee plays against the blue jacket and with the watch. Great fit on the trousers too!

I understand you! I spent last month (October) in a similar uniform!

  • Neel replied 6 years ago

I once wore a blush and black dress with a jacket that I *thought* was black when I bought it the previous night to match the same dress!  In broad daylight next day (it was one of DH's events attended by his clients), I realized I was soooo wrong!  It was actually a dark gray.  I still acted like it was intentional when DH asked me about it! ;)  I would have curled and died in a corner that day if not for the *brave intentional* face I put up!  LOL

You look lovely!  Love your foxy tee!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

What Shevia said. I love the navy blazer with black.

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

Navy with black is just great in my books!

Sometimes I prefer it in a mostly dark or tonal black and blue outfit, though (i.e. without a lighter top) and I am not sure why. Is it because it can seem more intentional (so we are less likely to get comments like Mr. Shannon's) or because it is less noticeable (so we are less likely to get comments like Mr. Shannons's)? I honestly have no idea. But if you ask me, this is just fine and I am surprised Mr. Shannon wasn't all over the sexy fox look!

Shannon, you look like a rockstar!  And this outfit really showcases your gorgeous figure :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 6 years ago

Suz - I know exactly what you mean in wanting the navy and black pairing to look "intentional". I did wonder if the white tee was going to throw that intention out the window but decided what the heck...and Mr. Shannon does quite like the foxy tee :)

Shevia, Rute, Neel, Joy and La Belle - thanks for chiming in!

Shannon - you are such a fox!!  Love this outfit.  Love the navy and black with the white t.  I agree the pants are just perfect volume and length and it showcases you figure while not drawing away attention from your face.  You just nail every outfit!!  So envious (but in a good way!!)

  • Susie replied 6 years ago

I like it together because there is enough contrast between the two. It doesn't look like you were trying to match them. I've really come to like navy and black together so this looks great to my eye.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

Indulge your gravings, Shannon. You look sensational.

  • Emily replied 6 years ago

Shannon, I love this outfit!  I like the mismatched blazer and pant.  The blazer looks fantastic on you.  Congrats on finding a new go-to look, you wear it beautifully.

  • karymk replied 6 years ago

Shannon, I personally love mixing black and navy, but I find it's to the best effect when the navy is blue and bright enough to make a good contrast against the black.  If the shades are too close, the effect gets really watered down and looks like a mismatch.  In your pics it looks like there is enough contrast, but is that just because of a flash on the camera?

Don't listen to a man about your outfits, EVER, unless its Greg.

  • Astrid replied 6 years ago

You look fantastic! I really like the navy with the black.

  • catgirl replied 6 years ago

Totally fantastic, Shannon!  This is my go-to color combination these days.  Discovering that navy and black can go together was a life-changer.

  • carambola replied 6 years ago

I love the Lanai with the foxy tee! You look terrific.

  • Diana replied 6 years ago

I think this is great!  I don't mind the navy with black - I think they're different enough to look intentional.

  • Beth Ann replied 6 years ago

This is a favorite for me, Shannon.  Now, the blue/black issue is hard to resolve on a computer screen -- I find it's difference in indoor lighting and outdoor, too.  That said, I'm liking navy/black for myself these days, and I think your silhouette is spot on.

You are doing a bit of "novelty" is a fabulously grown up way.

Wish I had an item so I could copy!

I am glad you kept the Lanai -- your happiness is almost palpable. Love it with the fox shirt.

  • AJ replied 6 years ago

This look so good, Shannon! I'm still shy about pairing solid navy and black. Funny, I don't feel the same way about brown and black.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 6 years ago

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

I fully realize navy and black isn't to everyone's liking and the shade of blue can certainly make a difference as to whether or not it works for you.

Ceit - me too! There's just something about this Lanai blazer...when I put it on the outfit feels "finished", you know? So glad I kept it.

Angie - there's gonna be a lot of indulging coming up :)

  • dianne replied 6 years ago

Shannon I thought your Foxy tee was so cute that I went out and bought one for myself!! I might even try it with a navy and black combo...your outfits are always inspiring

    Navy & black :) :) :)

That jacket is perfect on you & I love the tee with it - YLF.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

Glad to hear it. Rock it, Sister Trousers.

  • Windchime replied 6 years ago

What a fun juxtaposition with the fox tshirt and the Theory Lanai! I never would have thought to pair them; but it works marvelously. This is one of many reasons I love YLF; I am learning so much.

Bet you're thankful this week to have both feet back in shoes. :)

  • Robidi replied 6 years ago

Love, love, love this!! YLF :)
