WIW: For the return of snow

It was +20 Celcius on Saturday and I worked in my yard all day cleaning up the mess that winter leaves. And then it rained all day Sunday and over night, it turned to snow. Mother Nature has a cruel sense of humour!

Today's outfit is Eileen Fisher from head to toe and features the waxed denim jeans in charcoal that I bought in the fall and have never worn. They were too tight to be comfortable but I was too lazy to pack them up and return them. So yesterday when tidying up the downstairs spare closet, I came upon them and wondered if now they would fit. Well yes indeed so voila - here they are. Love them!

I then grabbed my charcoal tie-dye-esque silk tank and topped that with my bronze metallic open knit hi-lo cardigan. Doc Marten boots finish off the "dark and moody" theme and although not in the picture ('cause I snapped it quick in boss's office), I am carrying my black/with gold hardware leather handbag.

I realize this is a rather colorless outfit but I love the mix of textures IRL - waxed denim, soft drapey silk, metallic open weave. I hope the visual interest takes away from any lifeless look the outfit could have.

All comments/suggestions welcome :)

Nice! The chill has returned here, too. Alas.

Awesome!  I also love the mix of texture.  Sorry to  hear about the snow though :(.  We still have 2-3' in our yard!!

Oh, and congrats on fitting into your jeans... that must feel good.

    GO AWAY SNOW.

But you look fabulous no matter what. LOVE your salt and pepper 'do.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

No! Not snow! I'm gonna go mad! But this outfit is uber cool.

So cruel with snow. The mix of texture is fab.

Love you in this outfit...hate the thought of snow! I just had my snow tires taken off on Friday, so I'm bracing for mother nature to get one last crack in.

Great play with textures, Shannon, and those jeans are looking good.
But man, that snow needs to go (and stay) away -(((

Looks great for today's weather Shannon!  I decided to stay in my gym clothes and hide in my office today :)  Love the mix of fabrics and textures here - the muted palette keeps it looking sophisticated.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I can totally understand why you would love wearing that. It would feel so great!

As for the snow -- ARGH!!!

I am in sunny Vancouver where everything is green and blossoming. WHY DO WE LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE IN THIS DARN COUNTRY?

    great outFIt!!!

was 75 here on saturday 70 yesterday 68 today and now rain and plummetting temps...talks of a bit of flurries wed/thurs morning!!! old man winter needs to go away.....

Snow?!? Please send it down here, we'll take it.

Love this outfit, the sweater makes all the difference, and as you say, the varying textures are exactly how Angie teaches us how to wear all-black.  If anyone looks good in all-black it's you Shannon with your fair skin and dark hair.

PS -- You look quite slim and I trust this is desired based on your glowing smile?

What a beautiful outfit!  Love the dark moody tones.

Texture is the bomb!  Truly, EF is so brilliant in her fabrications.  You look great, Shannon.  The snow will melt soon!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

The different textures are what make this outfit super interesting. Congrats on the pants fitting now, good thing you didn't return them.

Our weather has also taken a turn for the cold. I'm certain it's because I went and got a pedicure :)

Texture is what Eileen Fisher clothes are all about, and this is a perfect look!

Such a great outfit, Shannon. You look fab and I do find that my waxed jeans add a bit of wind resistance when it is cold. Enjoy them.

My sympathies to anyone else who is experiencing the return of Old Man Winter. The wind was just bitterly cold today and doesn't look too much better for tomorrow :(

Angie - is it crazy for me to want a bit more salt to go with the pepper? I can't believe I actually want more of the silver to come in.

Suz - I think you just asked the million dollar question! I remember going to Victoria to see my older brother for Christmas one year and it was so warm we barbecued the turkey! They've already been cutting their grass for a couple of weeks.

Denise - thank you :) And yes, it is a desired outcome of a healthy eating change.

Beth Ann & UmmLila - EF's great use of texture is one of the reasons I am madly in love with her clothes. And I think it's how she can work with such a limited and neutral colour palette - it's offset by texture.

Thank you ladies for your kind words :)

The snow is no fair! But you look positively glowing despite it. Love the mix of textures and the touch of tough with the boots!

Fantastic! I want to steal it but I wouldn't look nearly as good. I'm in bush Alaska right now and it just went from sunny to snowstorm in the last 5 minutes. However I have a view of a river with belugas in it so I'm happy.

Love this whole outfit! My favorite pieces are the tee and cardigan. Please keep us updated on how those coated jeans do long term. Do they keep the coating? I've been considering them on sale now.

  • anne replied 9 years ago

The metallic cardi and your hair lighten up the outfit. Overall great look. Congrats on the jeans fitting!

  • Dixie replied 9 years ago

Wow. Love your hair (is it lilac?) and how it goes with your glasses/lips, your docs and your cardigan.
