WIW: For dress withdrawal

The last few days, I've been craving wearing a dress - guess you can't take all the "lady" out of Urban Lady Prince!

So despite the continuing cold, I popped on my charcoal boucle knit dress with grey patterned tights. On top of that, I've added my purple Amber Sun jacket. I wish I had also purchased this jacket in the teal colour as I adore the shape and always enjoy wearing it. For footwear, I'm continuing my column of grey colour by wearing my mid-calf grey Frye boots. I am wearing a touch of jewelry in a bracelet my husband gave me several years ago as a gift. I love the uniqueness of it - from a local jeweller.

Now rest assured when I head out the door into the -39C, I will have slipped on a pair of thin ski pants over the tights, swapped the Frye's for my Blondo Vergara boots, added a scarf, mitts and my red down LE knee length coat. I'll be snug as a bug in a rug.

What do you think? Does this work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Amber Sun
Dress: Gap
Tights: Hue
Boots: Frye (eBay)
Bracelet: gift

Love it! I love how the Urban Lady Prince lets you have so many different looks!

-30 here this morning, your weather must have reached us! No wind though so not bad feeling.

  • moira replied 11 years ago

    Love this!

  • Glory replied 11 years ago

Very nice! good idea on the snow pants - going to do that to when I head out in a few minutes. I love that dress on you and those Frye's were such a good find.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

These are perfect colors for you! You look great!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Hey - that's a fun and unexpected pairing! And I am WISHING I had the foresight to pack ski tights when I came to my mother's. I have been wearing pants tucked into tall boots for four days....and with this weather, I'm afraid it's not about to stop. Just TOO cold.

Love the purple and grey. The boots are good as your urban touch and I like the leg lengthening effect.
I was wondering how you dressed outside for -39! Now I know :)

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

DId you really go out in -39 in hose! argh, I just packed away all skirts and dresses since -20C seems here to stay. You are more daring than me!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

I would be wearing a snow suit in that kind of weather. I love purple and grey together and you wear them with elan!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Very pretty - that jacket suits you so well. Stay warm!

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

I cannot believe you can be so stylish, like you are, in -40C!!! I cannot even imagine that temperature!!! Brrrr:-(((. A pleasure to my eyes, but you know, am a neutral-smooth lines lover girl at my heart. :-))

Ceit - I'm loving Angie's title of Urban Lady Prince for me. It has somehow taken away some style confusion for me.

Glory - thanks for the Frye love! They were my first eBay purchase ever and I couldn't be more pleased. If all Frye's are this comfy, they won't be my last pair.

Jayne - I even pumped gas into my car this morning in a dress in this cold!

Thanks Moira, Shevia, Suz, Diane, Amy, Sarah & Lyn!

Oh, just came back to cheer you up saying grey &purple has to be popular among YLF folks today -as am wearing this exactly combo right now, and saw this on Ceit, too, Hah:-) (but that's only -1C by us:-))

  • kimlee replied 11 years ago

Shannon - The grey and purple is a great color combination. I love how the boots add the urban element to a very polished and lady-like look.

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

I love grey and purple together. The fit of that blazer works so well with the dress, I really like the vibe. You look great!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Nifty! You look so pretty in those colors. I thought at first that your boot had some cool cutout thing on the toe, and then I saw it is your lovely bracelet. ha ha Grey and purple is a gorgeous combo, If you feel like complicating it a bit, next time add a pop of orange or pumpkin for me and Gain.

Angie's titles for us are so helpful to stay focused, aren't they? I love that cozy dress and wish I had one like it in my closet. It pairs well with purple.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

You are the quintessential Urban Lady Prince! I see Retro sneaking in the back door and it suits you to a tee :)

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I love the textured gray with the purple -- so vibrant. Urban Prince Lady -- I like it ;-)

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit and the combination of purple and grey is one of my favorites. The boots are great with the dress. Stay warm!

  • Susie replied 11 years ago

Yay for purple! It's one of my favorite colors, especially paired with gray. I love the combination of textures.

I can't even imagine how cold that temp must feel....brrrrr!

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

Give me a minute to adjust to the temps you are having...YIKES !!!

You look fantastic ! That is such a great color on you and I have always loved tweed.
BTW, Princes have worn "skirts" plenty of times throughout history. In fact, didn't Prince Harry wear a kilt to the royal wedding ? And Gladiators fought in them. You are a FINE Prince/Gladiator.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Brrrrrrrrr...illiant! You look snug and lovely. Love the dress. It makes a great "canvas" for an outfit.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Can't get enough of you in purple:)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

JulieJohn - Gain says "thank you" for thinking of orange!

Angie - yeah, that Retro is always just kind of hanging around, isn't it - lol!

Isabel - quite right! There are plenty of Princes throughout time that wore their version of a skirt/dress.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. Looks like there's a lot of purple love around here!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Great idea! Lovely colours too. A dress with these temperature, I think it's perfect if you find a good pair of tights and warm boots. This mid-calf length is very flattering on you.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Fun combo! Ahhhh a boucle dress, be still my heart! I want a boucle dress, boucle slim trousers, boucle slouchy trousers (SO BADLY), boucle jackets.... *ahem* Anyway! Great outfit as usual, and hey if you look that good in dresses, you should definitely heed the call to wear 'em :)

(Have to add that when I saw the close up I didn't realize your bracelet was draped over the boots and thought "Now THAT is a cool boot detail!". Can't get the idea out of my head. I might have to try and do something that looks similar...)

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Aida, I had EXACTLY the same thought about the boots! :-)
Shannon, dresses love you with abandon and you should follow your heart too because they look great on you. Grey and purple look very sophisticated together and nice trick with ski pants.
It definitely cold here now (but -30 Ceit? We had -15 only without windchill) and I am wearing my snow boots for the first time this year. I think I am ready for spring...:-)
