WIW: Fluidity & Structure

Fluidity & Structure - this is the style direction I started to explore in 2014. At times, there was too much fluidity - and sometimes fluid got confused with volume. Through trial and error and YLF wise feedback, I figured out the level of fluid I enjoy wearing and how I enjoy it even more when combined with a touch of structure. This will be my style direction heading into 2015.

Today's outfit started with my fluid drape front black EF trousers. I paired the trousers with a fluid fit black/blue/purple/light grey blouse and then grounded all that fluidity with the structure of my trusty black leather blazer. I chose my black patent booties for footwear which I am thrilled to say are quite comfortable again thanks to my custom orthotics. And then for one more structured item and a pop of pretty colour, I'm wearing my citron handbag. To say I love this handbag is an understatement and I suspect you're going to get quite sick of seeing it! Red specs, swipe of lipstick and silver wedding band finish off the outfit.

I want to take this opportunity to extend a huge thank you to the YLF members and Angie in particular - 2014 was a year of adjustment for me. Changing jobs after being in my previous position for 16 years was much more difficult than I had bargained for. There was anxiety which every once in a while kicked my self esteem to the curb. Thanks to your wisdom, humour and patience, I seem to have come through the other side and am excited about what 2015 holds for me. I wish all of you a Happy New Year and hope your dreams come true in 2015 :)

Perfect balance of fluid and fit Shannon and you nailed the proportions.  This is exactly what I meant yesterday about a jacket with a bit more structure.  The length and column of pattern/black on the torso works perfectly to elongate your petite shape.

I am not normally a lover of yellow but doubt I will get tired of seeing that bag.  It is lovely and it works with all of the outfits you have put it in.

Thanks Dianthus - and I totally get what you mean about the structured jacket. I do think I can get away with a less structured version (or cardigan) when the dress or skirt is more tapered and structured in and of itself. Too much "loose" and I feel bleh.

Shannon, what a lovely message! Hugs to you -- and Happy New Year!

This is a wonderful outfit. How could I not adore it? Featuring "our" jacket, the shoes I helped you find (so glad you are able to wear them again) and that super fun bag? It's perfect.

Fantastic combination of fluid and structure here Shannon, you nailed it!  And that bag is awesome... such an unexpected pop of colour.

I hope 2015 ROCKS for you!

Well done Shannon! The strong shoulder line of the jacket gives the structure but the fit is fluid and looks terrific. So glad you have come through the stressful time with your usual wonderful attitude!

You made it, and have come out on top, Shannon. OF COURSE you have. Because your brilliant ability to bounce back from adversity and see the world through your glass is half full lens is what makes you stand out from the crowd. Rock on, and fab outfit. xo

Happy New Year Shannon - and I so enjoyed meeting you this year !  You are a favourite of mine on this forum for your consistent style and happy photos on the forum.  Have a great last day at work "this year" - and all the best for 2015!

For most of 2013 and half of 2014, yours was the first WIW I checked in the am with by breakfast coffee. (Mornings start much earlier now!). I shared your love of cobalt, and we were white leaopard skirt twins. You inspire serious bag envy (you have the BEST collection!). Your happy professional workwear looks have inspired a dozen of my outfit copycats!

2014 has been a tumultuous year for you, and I am so glad that you have managed to continue your participation in this forum. You would have been sorely missed. *I* would have missed you!

Let 2015 be a year for consolidation of all good things started in 2014. You ARE fab!

What a pretty outfit on you, Shannon! I like the drapiness of the trousers and that gorgeous blouse, reined in by the trouser hems and the sumptuous leather jacket. Shiny booties and the citron bag are perfect complements. Congratulations on making in through this year's transitions with such inspiring style.

Oh my - thank you all so much for your lovely words. Now don't make me cry - I'm not wearing waterproof mascara!
