WIW: Dress with Oxfords

Thankfully the trend towards comfortable and lower heeled footwear has coincided with my physical need for exactly that. Angie's tutelage on how to make comfy shoes/boots fashionable has been so incredibly helpful, not to mention the great picks she keeps finding for us.

So today's outfit is my take on Angie's post yesterday on how to wear dresses with flats - oxfords to be particular.

I started the outfit with my blue EF drape front dress and topped that with my CM floral moto. To pull out the cream tones in the jacket, I chose my cream laser cut not-quite-flat oxfords as my footwear. Pre YLF there is no way I would have chosen anything but high heeled pumps to wear with a dress. Well those days are GONE - not just because heels and I are no longer friends, but because I enjoy the freedom of choice that fashion now allows us.

To further play up the cream tone, I went with my large cream handbag and for accessories, chose my taupe/silver wrap watch, silver wedding band and black/white specs.

I feel stylish and oh so comfortable. Once upon a time, I would not have believed that those two things could be experienced at the same time.

What do you think? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Yes, how stylish you look!  How do Club Monaco clothes run size wise? Do you buy online?

I love these oxfords with these and dare say they are more stylish than a high heel pump! Yay comfortable fashion!

Doesn't that work perfectly! Love the look and the light shoes do help with the high vamp. Big oxford fan here. That dress is magic and works with the topper.

You look stunning Shannon!  It all works beautifully together and looks oh-so-stylish.

This is why I need light colored oxfords :)

I need some too .  Isn't this so much more stylish and funky than a pair of black pumps?  Of course there is a time and place for those too, but this outfit is great!  Love the CM jacket:)

Absolutely! You look stunning, Shannon. Those oxfords were another good purchase. I wish I had got some myself. The little heel makes them versatile.

I agree with you that the tapered hem makes this look so much more wearable. I am not sure if it is true for everyone but it is definitely true for me with my body type.

Love it!  The color of the oxfords really helps them look good with a dress since they are close to your skin tone.  I also like that floral jacket.

quietgirl - I find CM runs small. I always have to go up a size to fit their garments and as an apple, I am often sized out of their clothing. I bought this jacket last year in store.

I do think the fact that these loafers are light colored helps to take away any "heaviness" that loafers could have with a dress - if that makes any sense.

Suz - you are so right that these were an excellent purchase. These shoes were probably one of the most difficult pairs to break in but once they softened up, they have been ridiculously comfortable ever since. And yes - the tapered hem makes ALL the difference - for me anyway.

Thanks all for the kind words. I actually had a lady in the coffee line this morning comment on my shoes and say she never would have thought to wear that type of shoe with a dress but has to try it now. Ahhhhh...the power of the YLF influence :)

Shannon, how fab that you inspired that lady:). This is a stunning combo. The dress/oxford combo is one I have only cautiously tried but I do love it, and you are inspiring me,, so I am going to have to think more on it. The jacket with the dress looks awesome too. How good are those dresses!

Really, really, like this combo on you! I think flat oxfords will forever be on my radar now. Your jacket is stunning!

I love it! I will most likely try to dupe this look in cognac when it gets cooler here. Pairing it with a nice bag makes a difference!

Love this. YLF! I'm taking notes.

Those oxfords are just so fab on you, Shannon! They make your whole outfit look extra stylish.
You are making me want a pair of light colored oxfords so much!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Those oxfords really change the vibe of the outfit and it sure looks fab! :)
