WIW: Dress & Scarf Challenge for Day 3

Today I'm participating in both the dress and the scarf challenge. Today's outfit started with my black sheath dress. If I could wear this dress every day, I probably would. Love it so! I've topped the dress with my cropped denim jacket and then added this beautiful blue and gold scarf that Anne had sent me as my Secret Santa. I love this scarf because it reminds me of Van Gogh's Starring Night, my husband's favourite painting.

I've added my large polka dot tights and knee high black leather boots and my navy vintage handbag to complete the outfit.

What do you think? Everything working well together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Brody Jeans (thrifted)
Dress: Banana Republic
Tights: Hue
Boots: Blondo
Handbag: vintage
Scarf: gift

Love it! And the scarf is so nice! No close up photo? The colours are perfect for you. What I like in this outfit is that despite the over all black colour, it is very lively with details such as the scarf and the adorable oversize polka dots nylons. The purse and denim jacket respond to one another as two opposites, for a very balanced final effect.

You inspire me wearing your cropped denim now, I will go dig out mine.

That is such a beautiful scarf, Shannon! And I can see why this black frock is a favourite of yours: it's so versatile and looks gorgeous on you. Love how you've added the cheeky denim jacket and large polka dot tights, it gives the whole ensemble a spunky Shannon vibe. The "woven" part of your boots adds textural interest and the vintage bag is a very lovely touch. Brilliant outfit, once again!-)

Fab look! That is a classic dress and if not already will be such a workhorse. I like the simplicity and how the colors in the scarf and the perfectly cropped jacket "make" the outfit.

Great dress that is so versatile! I love the blues paired with it.

I love how you put together your wardrobe pieces! And your smiling face always makes me smile.

    Gorgeous, Shannon!

I am wishing I'd ordered the BR dress myself now, after wearing my own black shift yesterday. It's just not up to snuff. I will need to wait for their NEXT super sale and see about ordering. Hmmmm.....I had put myself on SYC until my trip (except for my birthday jacket and bag). But this is a replacement for a necessary item.

The dress, jacket, scarf and boots just look so great together. I am going to try to copy this outfit somehow. You sure know how to dress, Shannon.

Shannon, your outfit is very similar to what I was wearing yesterday :) This looks great - I like the addition of the jacket. I just wanted to add that I really like the hose you are wearing...it breaks up all the black without breaking up the black. Make any sense?

Is this the BR wrap dress? Thinking I might just have to check that out too...

Suz, do you get BR emails? They seem to have a sale every second day. Or at least every week :) And if you're near a store, they often have 40% off on Wednesdays. I tell ya, that's a store you should NEVER pay full price at!

Krish - sorry no close up of the scarf - no time in the morning, you know? And definitely dig out that denim jacket - I wear mine all year round.

Inge - you make me blush, thank you so much! I'm finding these days I'm very much into textural and visual interest, but without adding extra layers and pieces, if that makes any sense.

Suz - I think this sheath would be brilliant for you. It really has a lovely feel and fit to it. As Elizabeth mentions, just watch for their constant sales and you should be able to pick it up. I don't think this goes against your SYC as it would be replacement.

Elizabeth - this is actually the BR v-neck ponte knit sheath dress.

Thank you Deborah, Ceit, Shevia and Catherine!

I love the rugged/polished juxtaposition so you know I love this. The jacket is so perfect in this--you look amazing.

Love all the textures and I'm a sucker for a denim jacket over a dress! The scarf pulls out the blue of the denim too, fab :)

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Fabulous, Shannon! I can see why you love that dress.

The scarf is so beautiful and is so unexpected with a casual denim jacket. This black dress is the perfect canvas it a wonderful mix of polished and RATE. You combine these elements so effortlessly and the textures add so much pop. Stunning.

Blue and blue, my favourite and you wear it so well with your colouring! Such a great dress and I love the sassiness the jean jacket adds. Great scarf too!

What Day said. Love the faded denim jacket with the black dress and the scarf.

    Great outfit.

Sheath + Denim = Perfection (but only if you have polka dot tights) Love it! Also, I like the navy bag for the starring night inspiration reference.

This is gorgeous! I love the blacks and blues together and that scarf is *stellar*, lol! That jacket is the perfect wash and cut for you. And what's that you say? It was thrifted? Really! ;)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! The denim jacket, scarf, and sheerness of the tights are all lightening up the look Perfectly Just So.
