WIW: Double quilt with lace

Today is the debut of my INC Bailey 44-inspired dress that I picked up at The Bay back in August in anticipation of fall. I must admit that I actually prefer the quality of the INC version as opposed to the Anthro version - the fabric is a bit more substantial and the lining a little better in that it works well with tights and hose.

In order to de-bombshell the dress for work, I topped it with my lace INC moto (may as well have an INC day, right?). I then added black micro fishnets (bare legged weather is DONE) and my black riding boots - one, because I wanted a non heel day and two, because these boots further de-bombshell the dress).

For my handbag I chose more texture with my cobalt/cream/black quilted handbag. Plus the cream in the handbag helps to pick up the white stripe in the dress. When I head out the door, I'll top it all with my navy trench.

So what do you think? Does it all work together? Is there too much texture with the double quilt and the lace? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket and dress: INC
Boots: Blondo
Handbag: Danier Leather

P.S. This dress also works with my black leather Danier blazer, my white leather Danier jacket and my Spiegel jacket…whoo hoo!!!

I think it works! I wouldn't have thought to put the lace with the stripes, but I think it works out. Great dress.

OK I LOVE this. That dress is fabulous on you and will be so versatile with all your jackets. Good to know about the INC version. I don't think the lace is too much...it adds another interesting dimension.

It definitely works.  I would probably have gone with a leather jacket but the lace is more your ladylike vibe.  I really like that bag too.

I love the proportions here, and I think it works. To me, this is a little too much texture, but that's only me. I think you look fabulous! As always you have a keen eye for colors and proportions.

I love that dress on you with the boots!
The lace with the stripes is a bit much for my minimalist leanings- I think I'd prefer the outfit with one of your solid color jackets. Otherwise, though, your color and texture combos look great!

I am intrigued by your "texture on texture" look... and would have not thought to do this. I like that you take risks. You look great! Your bag is perfect with this outfit.

Gosh this is so you Shannon that I would think of it as yours !!

The dress is stunning!!  A lace moto jacket .... who would have thought?!  Looks lovely and the boots are perfect with it!  You look lovely today lady :)

    Fabulous!

I like it too, but do find the stripes under the lace a little busy looking. Great dress and bag!!

Gee, willikers! This is one of my faves on you, and I surprise myself because usually I don't like this much going on in one outfit. But somehow you pull it off with panache, why am I surprised? It's a visual treat topped with blueberry and cream.

Ooooh, I love the dress with that bag!!  So fab!!

I am less of a fan of the moto, but ignore me on this. I think it is just the way colors peek through the lace that pulls my eye from the gorgeousness of the dress that is distracting me.

    I really like this!

Shannon - I like this very, very much!!  I pick texture over color and I think the color peeking out of the lace, with the texture of the lace/stripes works really well.  Plus major vavoom girl, but restrained, elegant, professional - playful and confident!!  Adore you in blue - magic with your coloring.  Beautifully done!!

    Killer

    Texturally and monochromatically beautiful.

Fab-u. I'm into the quilting. It's really nicely done on your bag.

    Beautiful :)

It looks great. I must try with my Anthro dress.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon this dress is just beautiful on you.  The colours are amazing.  I am going to be a bit of a spanner as I struggle a little with being able to see the dress sleeves thought the jacket sleeves... it's just a little pet peeve of mine so feel free to ingore me:)  Otherwise it's an awesome outfit and I so want to see your leather jackets with this:)

  • Makrame replied 10 years ago

Looks good to me, although I would also love to see this with a vest instead of the jacket or with a non-lacy jacket.  Basically some sort of a solid topper to let the rest of the textures shine.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Very clever, Shannon! And you look so pretty in the blues. The boots are looking fabulous on you, too. Nice to see them out for a spin.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Thanks all! I totally get that the stripes and colours of the dress peeking through the lace isn't everyone's cuppa, but I'm kinda digging it and how it gives the outfit a different spin.
