WIW: Cropped & boxy houndstooth

Angie mentioned that cropped and boxy jackets were trending for spring and I'm hoping my old houndstooth jacket fits that style. The jacket was my starting point for today's outfit.

I popped the jacket over top my trusty asymmetrical ruched tank (I think the CPW is so low on this tank by now that it owes me money - lol!) and black knit pencil skirt. I added sheer black hose (it's not too cold today) and then my little bit of edge to the outfit comes from my Doc Marcie boots. I added an oversized black and white watch and silver wedding band for jewelry and finished off the outfit with my red quilted handbag, red lipstick and red specs.

So what do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Manikin Petite
Tank: Attitude by Jay Manuel
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Hose: Hue
Boots: Doc Martens
Watch: Calvin Klein (thrifted)
Handbag: Nine West (thrifted)

That jacket is the perfect little boxy houndstooth. You are such an inspiration.

Yes yes yes:). That top has such a good neckline. It adds a little something to each outfit you wear it with. I still like the jacket and the hint of retro it brings (the hounds tooth) and I am pleased to see those booties, I have a bit of a shoe crush on these.

    I love it!

The asymmetrical neckline is great, the jacket is perfect and the red handbag is the yummy finishing touch.

I love how the light hose match your hair and jacket, but also wonder what the outfit looks like with opaque hose (column of black?), just as a comparison. Probably more suitable for an evening look?

I love the contrast between the neckline of the top and the boxy jacket. Another fab outfit!

    Perfect!!

Pretty! The best accessory is your cheerful attitude.

Now that's how booties are supposed to fit!   :)

    Well done.

Classic with just the right amount of edge and attitude! I really like your asymmetrical tank. Your jacket is making me think of one in the back of my closet, which I used to like a lot but haven't worn for a long time. Hmmm....

Ooh - I like it too - I have to dig out my cropped and boxy jacket!

All good, esp love the wedged Docs and your new specs from last time:-)

Oh… I love your cropped houndstooth jacket! You look lovely and sophisticated with just the right amount of edge. The red lip and bag are nice touches.

The silhouette is great -- I think the boots and the midi length give the outfit some strength and cheekiness.  It looks modern and "Shannon."  Mix it with a pair of pointy toe pumps and it's a Jackie O look.

I love the jacket and the boots, but I'm going to be honest and say I don't like the asymmetrical neckline of the tank with this jacket.  To me, it looks like it needs to be straightened out.  Sorry :(

ETA:  But you look great and I'm just being picky because usually I think your outfits are practically perfect (I just watched Mary Poppins).

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

I looove that jacket on you - the shape and length are just perfect.  Love the lace up Doc Martens with your ladylike outfit and hose.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Thanks all - the asymmetrical neckline on this tank is both what makes it interesting and what drives me crazy!

Sara - I actually had a lady in the grocery store once tell me my top needed to be straightened out so you're not the only one :)

    Killer

Your new specs add lots of extra personality. xo

    LOVE THIS!!

In fact, I think I may have to make my way North and steal that jacket from you!!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Love this cheeky little jacket! Like MaryK, I want to steal it :)

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

Love the jacket, and the whole outfit.  And the red handbag is such a classic with the black and white!

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Great outfit! I'm wearing houndstooth today too :)

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

This jacket hits you at just the right spot for pairing with a dress.  I also think it could work well with a long flowy tunic style top perhaps?

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Love this! The houndstooth and quilted red purse combo is fantastic! May have to figure out a way to do a copycat with Ms. Scarlet! And I love the asymmetric tank, it keeps it from being pure classic. Haha, I had the same thing happen to me when I wore an asymmetric Helmut Lang sweater and was wearing DS2 in a carrier--someone grabbed my sweater and tried to tug the hem down because they thought it was crooked.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Absolutely stunning, Shannon!! Wow. This is one of my faves on you, ever. I just love houndstooth, love that jacket, and love the entire outfit!!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Amazing. How I wish I had bought those boots!

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

Love it!  Especially the jacket and booties.  Actually everything, separately and together.
