WIW: Crazy for Cognac

I'm loving having accessories in cognac and have particularly enjoyed seeing Fabbers' outfits combining cognac and white (Diane - I'm looking at you :) ).

So today's outfit started with my white slim BF jeans. I then added my gold metallic knit pullover, semi tucked to show my new cognac belt. I love that the brass buckle of the belt matches the gold pullover.

Unfortunately I don't have cognac booties - yet (I'm keeping my eye on the Clarks Chelsea boots in cognac like the black ones I have) so chose my sand suede wedge booties.

For accessories I chose my cognac backpack, gold watch and wedding ring.

So what are your thoughts on this outfit? Does it all work together? Would it be better with cognac booties? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Pullover: Esprit
Jeans: True Religion Brianna (eBay)

Shannon, I love this outfit! The matching of belt buckle and top and of the belt and bag are part of what gives it such a lovely integrity. The fit of the sweater and jeans are superb, lending a casual but polished feel. I think the booties work fine, as this taupe shade allows them to recede and leave the focus on the beautiful sweater. I'm wondering about trying a darker neutral, though. I don't think you need cognac, although that would certainly work. Maybe black or dark brown, to bookend your hair? Or perhaps add a color like dark blue or red?

I'm with Firecracker on this one.  I think the outfit looks great and all of the pieces work really well but it might need a few darker elements to offset the white for winter (or close to winter).

And I'm looking right back atcha! :D And liking what I see too! I love the use of a metallic sweater here.. hmm, I have a gold tone sweater. I think your outfit is fab and your bright smile is a joy!

The rich colors of your beautiful sweater and accessories will light up gloomy November days!

Gorgeous! The cognac bag and belt add so much here. The booties you are wearing sort of bookend the sweater, which I love, but cognac booties would look good too :-)!

Really pretty Shannon - almost a holiday-like look!  And there is that backpack I love again.....:)  Excellent sparkle for a day like today.

I also really like the booties with your gold sweater. I'm inspired to try something similar with white jeans and a silver metallic pullover. Cognac is a fun unexpected element here. Big thumbs up.

That sweater looks beautiful on you - and I love how you've added the cognac accents - really nice. I agree with Firecracker that the fit of everything is spot on and really makes this special.

Right there with you , have been pinning cognac with white looks... I even bought DH a cognac belt for Ireland trip, he has yet to wear..
i love the mix of the cognac with the tan and the sparkle in your sweater for added interest.

Gorgeous! one of my favorites. I love and wear this combo often (I have cognac booties, but no cognac bag)

White jeans, glitz, cognac accents and backpack - come on - how can this NOT be killer. xo

  • Pree replied 9 years ago

I think the outfit looks fab with the lighter color booties, but I totally agree the cognac booties would add to the great outfit.
I am also there with you TracyLiz65 pinning away for cognac booties - trying to justify it after adding some taupe booties with a short shaft earlier this fall. I want taller shaft cognac booties for the colder weather.

Shannon, I am so glad you are back because I love your posts. This look is wonderful!!!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

OMG. I am totally in love. That top has always been one of my favourites on you, and I'm even more wowed by it with white and cognac. I see no need for anything dark here. None!  :)

Fantastic outfit, Shannon! The booties work great with this!

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Aw, white and cognac is heaven on earth-and I like it on you! If I were you I would buy those chelseas(clarks) you're keeping your eyes on! Taupe booties are great but the cognac ones  would add more contrast and balance, plus  they would make this outfit even richer and bolder-if it's possible:-).

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Snazzy! You're wearing your hair longer: I like it!

  • ElleH replied 9 years ago

I love it with those booties & cognac ones would be fab too but the outfit doesn't "need" cognac booties. Maybe you want them anyway?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Firecracker & Dianthus - will try the same combination with darker boots next time for comparison. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Lisa - isn't it funny how as soon as we see something sparkly or metallic, we think holidays? I wonder why that is...

Tracey - I was actually off cognac for a while there but have fallen right back in love again. What I like is that it works equally well with black or white.

Jeanne - I'll loan you my backpack and you loan me your boots and together, we'll have a full set of cognac accents!

Deb - :) that so sweet of you.

Angie - ha! How did I know you'd like this? Oh yes....the white jeans :)

Suz - I remember when I bought this sweater - it was a late winter/early spring "refresher" piece and I kind of hemmed and hawed about buying it so late in the season. But I'm sure glad now since I've had it for 2 or 3 years and still love it.

Elle - could I convince myself I "need" the cognac booties because the black version are so incredibly comfortable for my fussy feet??? :)

Thanks all for your feedback. I had to laugh when I did have one person comment about me wearing my "summer" jeans - lol!

I am wondering if my tendency to dark today is the time change or the fact I've been in rainy Vancouver or working 12 hour days.  Your outfit looks great but I am seeing nothing but darker outfits these days so may have reacted to the contrast.

No debating that it is a great looking outfit on you SHannon.

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

I love this combination, and Sharon, you look radiant in it!

It seems like not too long ago a gorgeous metallic sweater like yours would have had to wait for a Christmas party to come out and play and then would have been packed away for another year. I LOVE that you're wearing it now and in the daytime! with fab white jeans! You look amazing!

  • shiny replied 9 years ago

I'm also crazy for cognac these days. I prefer it with the taupe boots rather than cognac. My reasoning? I think for balance you want just TWO cognac items at a time. Three would be overkill. So if you did invest in cognac booties then you'd want to lose the cognac belt.

The way you've styled it here is perfection, the booties match the top, the bag matches the belt.

That said I DO adore cognac footwear with white jeans. If you add a new pair, then just swap out the belt! A giraffe belt? Oh my. I can picture it.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Another fantastic outfit! I love the cognac accents. These booties look fine, cognac or darker might be slightly better but it's hard to tell because you look so fab as is!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Subtle daytime sparkle is always going to get a yes vote from me!  Cognac booties would be marvelous, but I like the suede booties, too!

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Oh my gosh!! You are amazing!! Love the blingy top with white and cognacs! That backpack takes it from fab to super fab!

  • Marley replied 9 years ago

This is perfect!  Everything about this works so well - and I think that the lighter colored booties (which extend your leg-line) are perhaps even a better option than cognac booties - but cognac would work well too!
