WIW: Corporate Leather

It is yet another bitterly cold day here and I wanted to wear something warm and edgy. I have only worn the Spiegel "lemming" leather jacket as outer wear so far and decided today to wear it as a blazer. That was the starting point for today's outfit.

Underneath the leather jacket, I have on a simple black knit tank. I know it seems silly to wear a sleeveless item underneath, especially when it's so cold but believe me, when the menopausal hot flush hits, off comes the jacket and a sleeveless tank is exactly the right choice!

For my bottoms, I went with my Blackwatch plaid trousers - one of my favourite purchases for F/W 2013.

I went with my Doc Marcies for footwear and my black Danier handbag. No jewelry other than my silver wedding band and a silver ring on my other hand. And yeah…and red lipstick of course!

This might be too much black and too much black leather for some, but it feels right to me for today. What do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Spiegel
Tank: Sears
Trousers: Lord & Taylor
Boots: Doc Martens
Handbag: Danier Leather

Very Urban Prince! I like it, Shannon.

  • ramya replied 10 years ago

Black is your color isn't it Shannon.? You rock it

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

Nice, Shannon! Your smile softens the black and the leather!

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

There's a way to wear leather so that it's an intelligent and not nose-thumbing aggressive choice and you've nailed it. :D

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

I think those pants might be my favorite of yours. Very nice.

  • El Cee replied 10 years ago

Love this outfit Shannon! Those blackwatch plaid slacks are divine, and help to keep the ensemble from reading as "too much black"… although, is there even such a thing as too much black? :-) Totally get it about the practicality of wearing a tank underneath the jacket as I, too, am experiencing "the eternal internal summer".

  • catherine replied 10 years ago

I, too, love those trousers on you.  You look so put together and stylish.

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Great outfit Shannon! Not too much black at all imo.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Not too much black for me! The leather textures add interest and the trousers are fantastic, no wonder they are favorites!

  • Joyce B replied 10 years ago

Very nice, stylish and comfortable. You can adapt fashion to what is needed for the weather.Stay warm.
I gave up on style for today, now it's just layers and boots with a good grip and of course being ready to shovel when I get back from work... It's good exercise, though.

Shannon.... (mouth agape) incredible!! I adore blackwatch tartan and that outfit is so awesome I have no words!! Love the spiegel lemming jacket on you, so amazingly flattering and I just adore those tartan pants. The bag and marcies so perfect!! I really, really love this quiet outfit on you because it is so stylish but when I look at the total picture, as much as I adore the outfit, it really focuses on your lovely face, hair and smile. That is the very best type of outfit there is!! Major wows!!

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

I think you look great :) love the jacket and trousers and those boots :)

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

I personally find it hard to have too much black.  The pattern and color of the pants definitely keeps the outfit interesting.  You also have a few different levels of sheen and interesting shapes.  Very nice.

  • replied 10 years ago

You totally rock the black and Dianthus makes a good point about the nice variety of sheen and shape. YLF!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Not too much black. I think black watch adds a lot of interest, and the textures in jacket and shoes the look rich, rather than hard or heavy.  And the lippy is fab!  It's 0F here today, with snow and a windchill of -20. Gotta figure out what to wear myself!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I feel like you channelled a bit of Angie's hard edge from yesterday! Fun, a little bit punk, and strong. Go get 'em, girl!!

I hope the new job is going well. And stay warm, stay warm. It is BRUTAL out there. (We have it, too. Brrrrrr!)

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Looks great to me, Shannon! Not too much black at all. I do love those plaid pants on you.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

El Cee - "eternal internal summer" - lol! That about sums it up. Isn't it just crazy those temperature fluctuations???

Shevia & Dianthus - great point about the textures and sheen. I sometimes forget that those subtle details can break up too much black.

    gryffin - *blushing*

Beth Ann & Suz - stay warm too!

    Thanks everyone :)

You look amazing!  I love the leather worn indoors, and the blackwatch trousers add the Shannon flair. This outfit is the perfect way to add some corproate edge.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Screaming:-I NEED a leather jacket for indoors, too!!!! :-))

So you know how fab you look! (and for my eyes those blacks are quite right with the blackwatch and all that freezing there)

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

Great outfit!  I love the plaid pants and the leather jacket together.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous, I love it to bits.  So glad you found the perfect fit with those blackwatch trousers!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Fabulous. Simple, Sharp, Modern. Not too much black at all. AND, you wear black well, so don't ever worry about that. xo

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

You've done it again! And layers work, whether for hot weather or hot flushes. Practical and flawlessly executed. The blacks give the black watch its due, and accents your face as Gryffin noted.

  • cuffcat replied 10 years ago

You look amazing in black! Great polished, professional look.

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Really love those pants so much! I've just started to wear leather jackets for indoors. It was such a revelation to me -- so crazy :). I love how this jacket looks on you with these pants.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

    So fab.

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Very fab. i like how the pants kind of sneak up on you with their plaidness, so it's really not all black.

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

    Another complete and total winner!
I must say, I get quite a kick out of the slouch in your trousers.  Mine are ankle pants.  :)

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

I love this on you, Shannon. It's simple yet interesting with the various textures and the plaid pants. Very nice!

  • Robidi replied 10 years ago

What a great outfit!  Love the pop of color your lipstick provides :)

  • deb replied 10 years ago

This look great. I just love those pants!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I totally understand having to dress so that you can rip them off when a flash hits ;) Not too much black, especially with the variation in textures and the black watch patterned slacks. Your smile keeps the leather from bossing you around. This is a look worth repeating.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

YLF & need to bottle this one & I need those pants  :) :)

  • carter replied 10 years ago

I love this. The pants are killer. And I hear you on the overwhelming need to shed layers!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Well then...I guess this combo is a keeper!

    Thanks all  :)

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I like it - plaid and leather. The cut of the trousers is the key to making the look corporate nice. I make note of this great idea (swerved over to your thread, Shannon ;)), because I'm working on "corporate punk" myself...

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

    Nicely done.

  • April replied 10 years ago

So smart!  And you look so happy in the new job, which I know from your other thread that you are.  :)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I think the plaid hits just the right note with the draped leather!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Totally works! These plaid pants have became a real workhorse for you, haven't they? I really like the almost black outfit: textures and patterns keep it interesting.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon is there such thing as too dark or too much black?? lol. Love this so much. Sleek, streamlined and black.. stunning. You make me want to pop my Spiegel on now and just wear it at home.. but it's a tad too hot for that :)
