WIW: Color anyone?

Well if you can't experience Spring, then you can WEAR it! On Ingunn's recent thread about what our challenge or inspiration was this week, I commented that I wanted to challenge myself to wear more color and to wear items that are more traditionally figure flattering (as opposed to more slouchy and voluminous which I have been enjoying lately). Today's outfit I think (hope!) covers both.

I started out with my yellow Academy tipped Gap blazer - my goodness, I love this cheery colour! I popped it over a black with white and grey polka dot draped front tank and then added my cobalt blue jeans. These are not actually the cobalt jeans I recently showed you as a spring purchase. The ones I originally purchased were Ralph Lauren but when I wore them out on the weekend for some errands, I was mortified at how much they bagged out from the knees right up to the waist - they turned into a saggy, sloppy mess. Hated them. Plus, to be honest, I think I purchased them one size too large. I really need to get my head around my changing body shape. Thank goodness they were on discount. I popped into The Bay on Monday and found these lovely Jeanne Bekker jeans. I had her white jeans last year and loved them both for comfort and for the non-bag factor. These are a a cross between a skinny and a straight leg and are petite so didn't need shortening. They are extremely comfortable and have a small percentage of polyester in them which is what I think helps them keep their shape.

For footwear I've added my python booties and then my white handbag and white watch for accessories.

So what do you think? Does it all work together? Proportions and fit of everything ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

And that cheery color loves you. My goodness Shannon, that blazer is perfect on you, color and cut. I love it with the cobalt jeans and booties. The only thing I am not totally sure about is the dark tank - I think I would want to see something lighter or bluer. Not that you don't look splendid, but I thought I would try to come up with an actual suggestion for a change!

You look really good in bold colours Shannon! and I like the dots too. I know what you mean about jeans that bag, Its dreadful when you go out in one pair of pants and come home baggy!

I think a lighter tank would look better too -- either that or black boots with the black tank. The yellow is excellent, and the cobalt jeans are too!

Gorgeous Shannon! lovely to see some colour. The fit and proportions seem to work well. Ceit made a good suggestion too if you want to ramp it up even more spring-like, though you look good as is. I like how you are true to your word and following you new style directions :)

How do the yellows match with your oatmeal and yellow striped sweater? That might be a fun future pairing :)

You are bringing on the sunshine in that lovely jacket!  The jeans were a great find and look like they fit well.  YLF

    spring has sprung
    Shannon has emerged
    the winter coccoon is gone
Oh what fun spring has sprung!

You look wonderful, Shannon! Love the new jeans on you. They are a great, fun cut. And yes, you will just have to get used to your new shape! But don't you hate jeans that do that? I had a pair of NYDJ that did that to me every single time. Finally, despite the (to me) astronomical price I had paid for them, I said BEGONE!!

That was pre-YLF. These days I would never allow them to boss me around so much.

Re the top: at first I felt similar to Ceit and Shevia. And I do think it would be worth trying with a lighter top. But I have a feeling the effect IRL might be a bit different. I think the light bits of the pattern might jump out a bit more IRL, somehow. I've noticed this with certain patterns and the camera's eye (or flash). Some come out lighter and brighter than IRL, and others give a darker impression.

I like the blue and yellow together.  I was going to mention darker shoes or a lighter top, but now that I read Suz's comment, I agree that it might be one of those outfits that just doesn't photograph quite right.

Thanks for your thoughtful replies ladies.

Hmmm....the tank....yes, I see your point in trying something lighter. I thought the white and light grey polka dots in the tank would work with the white handbag and light colored booties. Not enough? I also wanted to wear the light booties to pull out the white piping and buttons in the blazer.

I guess I need to go shopping for lighter colored tanks and layering tees - a constant hole in my wardrobe.

Ceit - I am wondering about the yellow striped sweater too. Will have to try that although I think it might be too warm when combined with this blazer, which is a fairly substantial fabric.

I think in person the white and grey dots pop more and look lighter.

Might be good with the sweater when you are going outside in Spring and don't want to wear another topper!

Wow, that blazer was made for you, and wearing more fitted clothes, it's easy to see the results of your efforts.

Well you know I love this! Totally my kind of colors. Love with the blouse!

Yes to color and I love your version of springtime daffodils with a few cornflower blues thrown in for good measure!  I like the darker tank, but I'm not familiar with the lighter striped one Ceit mentioned.  I'm sure either one would work with that gorgeous jacket, Shannon.  Love being your boot twin.

Perfectly cheerful for a wintery-spring day! I get the lighter top thing (believe me, I'm soooo on Team White), but I do quite like the dotty black top; it picks up on the pepper in your hair, while the shoes/bag pick up on the salt. I think it's pretty perfect :)

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!!! Oh I love yellow and blue together. The dotted blouse is the icing on the cake. I see the SE's got a work out too -- how lovely!

You look so good in the yellow. I am jealous because I am not able to pull it off.

Love it!  I like the darker top, really enhances the brights. That blazer was made for you.
