WIW: Cobalt Blue & Black with a hint of yellow

I'm really into the colour combo of black and blue these days - all shades of blue. So today I'm breaking out my new short sleeved silk-blend cobalt and black blouse. It also has side panels in a blush tone which I really like and think gives it even more interest. I've paired the blouse with a simple pair of wider legged black trousers and then for warmth outside (and in the office if it's too chilly) I've topped it with my black/charcoal herringbone blazer. I have a fair bit of running around to do at work today so am wearing my incredibly comfortable Clarks shooties. For jewelry I've added a dark blue bracelet and am using my cobalt/black/yellow clutch for more pattern mixing and another pop of colour.

What do you think? does it all work together? colours and proportions good? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Gap (thrifted and altered)
Blouse: Attitude by Jay Manuel
Trousers: NJP Petite
Shoes: Clarks
Bracelet: thrifted
Handbag: Trouve

Another winner Shannon! I especially love how the handbag zipper picks up the blue and the yellow and blue together.

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

    Shannon you are amazing :)

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago

Very sharp combo. Shannon, you look quite long and lean in this outfit.

That top is amazing! Is that the line that Sears carries? You have the best luck with your shopping!

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

well done! I love the complete look very much! Thanks for lso showing us all the wonderful individual items that went into ' le complet'

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Okay. Here is PROOF POSITIVE that horizontal stripes do NOT necessarily make a person look shorter or wide. You look like a long drink of deep, still water in that, Shannon! It's a gorgeous look for you!

I adore this colour combo, too. I admit I am having a tough time thinking of giving up that black VC top for fit issues when I love it so much with the cobalt skirt....

Such a chic outfit - that top is especially slimming - due to the sidepanels? - and the bold colors are very flattering on you! I'd keep this one handy for a FFBO outfit. . .

P.S. I have seen your clutch recently at Nordstrom Rack and SO cute IRL too. It made me smile to think 'that's Shannon's!'

This is one of my favorite color combinations, as well. I avoided it for a decade or so, thinking it was too "1990," but I'm so happy to see it back in such a strong, modern way!

This outfit has great polish and ease - great for a busy, physical day at work.

You're always so put together but fun.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

This gets an A+ in my books for figure flattery. The top is devine, those colors are wonderful. The whole outfit works so well and I LOVE the clutch with this.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

This outfit has so much going on in a quiet way. I can see why you love black and blue. You have renewed my hunger for something cobalt. Those Clark's look like stylish workhorses.

missvee - yes, this is from the Jay Manuel line at Sears. I have two other tops and one dress from his line and they are all fab - well constructed, wash and dry fabulously and are workhorses in my wardrobe. Plus if you go when they have their sale, extremely well priced. This top was only $19!

Sona - I've decided to add a close up pic with my WIW posts of accessories so that people can see the details which don't always show up in photos.

MNsara - that's so sweet that you thought of me when you saw the clutch! Isn't it pretty?

Joy - I bought these Clarks two years ago as my "practical" shoes and they are so comfortable. I always grab these when I have a lot of walking to do.

Thank you Shevia, ramya, Claudia, Suz, BethAnn, RedM, and Deborah!

Shannon, you are unstoppable! LOVE blue with black, and this outfit is certainly no exception.

Shannon, you look lovely. I just want to take a moment to highlight how much I love your "final photo" that you've been doing. It's the one that shows all the accessories close up, and sometimes a cat as well. It helps me understand the outfit more - I guess I'm a touchy-feely person and this is the closest I can get to touching all the items for their tactile interest.

I also love the combo of blue and black and thanks for showing a great example.

  • Elly replied 11 years ago

I love the look, I love the clutch--- is it just me or does the nude fabric on this top kind of stick outwards sometimes? Is it a little too big under the arms? IDK why, but it bugs me!

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

Ah, more black and blue! The combination is awesome, Shannon, you look amazing! I really love the hints of yellow, they add that little extra. I want that bag... Wonderful, well thought out and executed! I liked Suz' description of your lines!

  • jen replied 11 years ago

Another one of my favourites you look so slim in this outfit, very flattering :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thank you Rae, Julie, MTB, Elly, Ingunn and Jen! I appreciate your lovely comments.

Elly - the blouse's style is a bit boxy and voluminous which is why you may think it's a bit big under the arms. But it does fit.

I am not a purse-person, and I have handbag envy. Yours is my idea of the perfect amount of pop while still blendy.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Boy you are on a roll! Sharp!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Nicely done! I'm a sucker for stripes. I wonder if I should include more detail shots in my WIW's.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Oh, this is awesome. I love it without the jacket especially . You look skinny in horizontal stripes - explain to me the secret, please!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I would love to see detail shots with your WIW posts Anna - I'm finding I'm more and more interested in texture and patterns and how things mesh together, which doesn't always show well in an outfit post.

Una - I have no idea why horizontal stripes work for me. It's like the striped VC black and white tee from last year. Does anybody know why???

  • replied 11 years ago

I like the shirt a lot better with trousers! Looks great to me.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Or... have you lost weight? : ) Whatever you're doing, YLF!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I actually am down a bit in weight - my new endocrine meds dosage is working. I feel so much better!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Ok, so how do you find the perfect clutch for an outfit like this? Love it all!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Graphic, gorgeous and elegant. Actually prefer the outfit sans the jacket!

Love you in blue. Glad you have fallen back in love with the colour :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

You'll be happy to know that my office was quite comfortable today so only wore the jacket to and from the car :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    *big smile*

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

OMG I love this! That top is just amazing -- the side panels make you look super long and lean!!! And the whole outfit just sings!
