WIW: Casual Friday Leather

TGIF!!!

Today's outfit started with my navy leather jacket. I can't imagine my wardrobe without a selection of leather jackets. I wear them as outdoor jackets when weather permits and wear them instead of blazers as indoor toppers when it's cold. I throw them on over a dress or wear with jeans and a tee. To me they are incredibly versatile, comfortable and a combination of chic and edgy.

I like the slightly weathered finish to this navy jacket and the rather boxy shape. The sleeves have 4 inch zippers at the bottom which allow unzipping and cuffing of the sleeves.

Underneath the jacket, I've got on (with a white cami underneath) a wrap asymmetrical drapey top. Because the top is a little long on me, I have attempted to give it a shorter look by tucking a wee bit of fabric into the waistband of my jeans to pull up the one side. I think it works.

Speaking of jeans, I'm wearing my wider legged trouser style which are the perfect length with my red booties.

In order to bookend the booties I chose my red/animal print clutch for my handbag. Red specs and red lips finish off the outfit.

So what do you think? Does it work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome. And what's an item in your wardrobe you can't imagine not having?

Jacket & top: Danier Leather
Jeans: Reitmans
Boots: Sam Edelman
Clutch: Material Girl

You look great but my favourite pic is #3 where the clutch is hiding the side of the top which is tucked up. Trying to decide if it is because it is unexpected...and hence maybe just my eye...or whether it looks more balanced for some other reason. I think the length of the top on you is flattering enough that you shouldn't need to tuck it up unless you really want to.

I'll be interested to see what everyone else thinks though.

Such an elegant outfit -- I love these trouser jeans on you. They are super flattering, and they create a modern suit-like outfit with that great jacket.

And I like the top side-tucked like that. I'm sure it's because I've drunk the JCrew koolaid (or the Crewl-aid) once again -- they're doing all sorts of asymmetrical tucking right now, so my eye is trained to appreciate it. Also, in life and art I am drawn to asymmetry. Anyway, I like it. Plus, I think I really need a white top like this to wear under any jacket and blazer I own. It suddenly makes starting an outfit with a jacket possible.

    Well done, Shannon. Per usual.

Shannon I am pretty defenseless against a cross over top, navy blue leather and red shoes. Gorgeous - I would wear this in an instant!

Oh course I love this... jacket twin!  And I totally agree with your love for the leather jackets, although I don't have as many :).  My white one has completely surprised me with it's versatility.

I think your comment in your "wardrobe" thread is totally shown here... how the bag and the footware make such a difference.  Wonderful pop of unexpected colour. But of course the top and jeans are a great foundation for them!

Love this, navy white and red is such a classic combination and this has a wonderfully contemporary spin. Perfect for dressing up on casual Friday!

You have an amazing leather jacket collection and the jacket makes the outfit for me, although the bag and red booties finish it off beautifully.

Great outfit...and I love the asymmetrical tucking of the top!

    Sheer perfection.

I need to wear my leather jackets but it's just to cold. Do you wear your jacket inside? I have a tendency to take it off since my jackets are more winter wear then blazer style.

Killer. Style Detox. Love those looks.

You know you had me with the red accents. xo

Fab! Love love the side tuck! Like viva I must have drunk the Crewl-aid :)

shipskitty - I appreciate your honesty regarding the side semi-tuck. The top looks shorter here than it is in real life because the semi-tuck pulls up all the top to a certain degree. It is quite long on me and comes to mid thigh. However I do think I got the semi tuck a little too "tucked" here and have adjusted after seeing the pictures.

Viva - I bought this white top in black as well and holy moly, talk about versatile! You definitely need (enable...enable...)

Shevia - well my goodness, that's high praise indeed. Thank you :)

Elizabeth - I didn't know you had this jacket too! My goodness our closets must be starting to look pretty similar - lol! Love it :)

approprio - thank you so much for your kind comments.

Joy - Don't you just love the structure a jacket can give an outfit? And when it's leather, oh all the better IMHO :)

Robidi - for short apple me, I find the asymmetrical shape of a top helps to not cut me in half in my most unflattering spot.

DC - I do wear my leather jackets indoors like I would a blazer. In fact, almost all of my leather jackets are purchased with that in mind - light enough to wear indoors. I don't really consider them as outdoor jackets per se.

    Angie - awww shucks....thanks Angie :)

    Jackie - "Crewl-Aid" - lol!

*Happy sigh* That's exactly what I did when I saw this outfit :) It feels like perfection and very 'Shannon'. Loving the red touches, the drape, the structure and the playful touch of leopard print. YLF!

Sigh... you always make it look so easy!

Love this. Those jeans are particularly killer.

    I like the white tee.

Great look and I really like the touches of red and, oh, do I wish I lived closer to Danier Country!  You've got the best leather jacket capsule, Shannon.
