WIW: Blues for the Bus

I'm taking the bus to and from work today and it's very cold out - so today's outfit is all about warmth and comfort.

But I also have two items that I purchased almost two years ago up for debate on whether to keep or not. Those are the faux wrap print top and the cardigan (they are a set). The faux wrap top has shades of cobalt, purple and taupe in it and the cardigan is a cobalt knit. Both are excellent quality and fit nicely but I'm wondering if they are still part of my style?

They are combined with a simple pair of navy trousers, my black Clarks shooties and my black patent croc leather handbag.

This outfit doesn't wow me but it does serve the purpose today.

I'm also debuting my red puffer coat (yes....it's THAT cold!) that I bought at Land's End in July on deep discount. I love this coat - it's a bright cheery colour, it fits well and it's warm.

What do you think of this outfit? Boring? Should the top and/or sweater stay or go? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater & Top: Attitude by Jay Manuel

I love that top and wouldnt let it out of my sight :D
But the combo doesnt feel very Shannon to me . If you get what I mean.
Dont get me wrong, it looks good. but may be , I am used to seeing you wearing clothes with an edge(???)

I think very classic pants give this outfit a very 'safe' vibe and don't really show off your adventurous side. Having said that, I like it and it serves the purpose. Great set btw and great timing - check Angie's todays blog post...
However, enter red coat and you're back in the game.

I like tHe top and sweater, but think you might be able to pop it up a notch by combining with different pieces. Do you ever wear a scarf? One with blues, purples, and a shot of mustard or orange would look cool. Or your fur vest added over these? Just trying to think outside the box here. You are possibly out the door already, so have a nice day!

It's not your usual WOW, but it's a flattering look and nothing wrong with it unless it just doesn't make you feel happy. I love the red puffer - I think it's the same one I bought in June (or very similar) so we'll be happy red puffer twins!

I love the top on you. The color of the cardigan is really great but I don't love it styled this way - I think it is worth keeping and trying over a skirt or dress though because the color is super flattering. The red puffer is fabulous.

I like it, Shannon. I agree it is a pleasant, perfectly nice outfit, and doesn't have the zing of some of your other ones. Would the colours of the top go with your Amber Sun jacket? I would like to see this too with your taupe skirt (when it isn't so cold!).

    Love the puffer.

I think the top and the sweater look nice with the trousers.

Oh thank you for your "eyes" ladies - it sounds like the pieces are fine individually but combined this way, not quite "snappy" enough? That's pretty much what I thought too. So I won't let the pieces go yet and will experiment some with them.

Ceit - great idea about the Amber Sun jacket with the top. Will give that a try.

CJH - it's funny you mention scarves. They have never been part of my style but I'm seeing how fabulously many of the forum members wear them and have been thinking about adding one or two in fabulous colours to try.

Jeanne - Rita and MaryK have this red puffer too!

That puffer is spectacular on you. Wow!! So glad you got it.

I love the top, too, and agree that paired with some other items it can still have a lot of life to it. It gives a textured effect with the pattern and is very flattering. I also love the colour of the sweater. So it's all in remixing them. I think it's often that way with things originally bought as a set.

I really like the colors and pattern of the top and the cardigan is also a nice color. I agree with others that if you paired them differently, maybe with one of your great skirts and some booties, they might feel more current to you.

I think this outfit looks fine though - it's flattering, pretty, and will keep you warm on a chilly day. Sometimes that's all that's required of an outfit.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

You do warm, simple and comfy with sass!

I like the subtle duplication of the patterned top in the texture of your hair.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Ack! Angie - how sweet of you to pop in!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

I really like your top and sweater, seems like a perfectly comfortable and flattering combo. It may not have the extra Shannon edge we are used to seeing but you could easily add a fun Shannon bag or shoe and switch things up a little. Great puffer, so warm and toasty!

  • shedev replied 11 years ago

I really like the top. The cardi doesn't seem quite fab enough for you.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

LOVE THAT TOP! I also like the cardigan but, as others said, "you" are missing a little. I think it is because it's pretty much all classic, without your retro and rugged sensibilities out to play. I think even if you paired the twinset with a skirt and killer boots the effect would be much more Shannon.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Rae - love your new avatar with your killer new 'do'!

The faux wrap top with my new black knit pencil skirt, and cobalt booties? Of course, I would have frozen my legs off this morning in a skirt but another day...

I think I will relegate the cardigan to wear with jeans and tee on weekends. It is comfy and warm and I do like the colour.

    Thanks all!

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

I like the cardi, I guess I'm the only one not crazy about the top. It's not bad, I guess I just don't like that it looks like croc print or snake print....or maybe my eyes are seeing it wrong. But I don't much like any animal prints, so feel free to ignore my thoughts on it since it seems to be a favoritie. What kind of print is it? I think, personally, I don't like animal prints that are colored either, because to me an animal wouldn't have that as a natural color....yah, just a peculiarity of mine.

Hello Puffer! Too awesome! The red is spectacular.

Anyways, you know what, the way you've styled your trousers today makes sense to me (after all my mouthing yesterday ;>). I like the weight of the sweater esp. with your pants.

Everyone else seems to think some edge is missing... I'd maybe bring it in with jewelry or a bright scarf.
