WIW: Blue & Brown & More Skirts with Booties

Today is the debut of my Esprit plaid skirt, that has dark brown, camel and blue for colouring. I found this in my local thrift store a few weeks ago but had to get Wonder Woman to restitch the lining as it had separated from the skirt. I love the substantial weight of this skirt. It's a heavy cotton, fully lined and has big belt loops.

I wanted to pick up the blue in the skirt, plus I love any shade of blue with brown. I found this cowl neck, faux leather shoulder tank at Sears last week on sale for $9.99 and had to pick it up as it is the perfect layering piece for colder months, but can be worn alone in warmer months. In fact, I loved the fit of this tank so much I went back and bought the red one as well. (For those watching me and my SYC/budget experiment, it still fit in my $20 per pay check allotment)

I've topped the outfit with my cognac faux leather jacket, which I do wear indoors as my office is quite chilly. I've popped on my men's vintage tribal belt to fill those belt loops, and for my bottom half, I'm wearing chocolate brown tights and my short brown booties.

Of course when I head out the door, I'll top everything with my silver trench.

What do you think? Does this all work together? Are the proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Love it! Very fall like colors, and then the blue is just punchy, and really picks out the fine blue stripes in the skirt. Great job!

Goodness Shannon, this is a fab outfit. It's a little different (I think it's the colors combo). The cobalt with the cognac shades is very striking. My only suggestion is I would be interested to see this with nude legs:). But I realize it may be too cold already.

Wow, very nice! You do booties with skirts really well!

I just love the color mix, and that is a fantastic skirt. You look great in all three versions!

Booties and skirts look great on you. I love the outfit with the cognac jacket, it ties everything together and makes the blue pop.

Shannon, I look forward to your exquisite outfit and your warm smile every day. You really know how to wear your clothes!

Deborah - I wondered if the darker tights might make the bottom half look too "heavy". Thanks for your keen eye and suggestion!

Thanks RunnerRae, Makrame, Shevia, and Ceit!

Catherine - what a sweet thing to say :)

    Just saying :)

That blue matched with cognac is so delicious on you, it should be illegal. WOW!

You truly have mastered wearing booties with visible legs, Shannon, and this is yet another sensational combination! And with a midi to boot. I wish I could put out a catalogue of your outfits to help all the other petites with this look. IF ONLY THEY COULD SEE YOU!!! It would change their apprehensive minds forever.

Shannon, what a great outfit! The skirt looks great with the blue cowl-neck top. And that jackets looks perfect for all. The bag ties up the whole look together. Super outfit!

The picture of Fall! I love the modern draping of the cowl with the classic/academic plaid of the skirt. :D

Wow! I love it! I have some similar pieces (minus the fab jacket) that I must try now. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play dress up today and post pics :)

I love this look-- very shannon! My only suggestion is to repeat the black of the shoulders on the tank somewhere in your lower half if you are going to wear it much without the jacket.

Wonderful combo of blue and camel. Looks so good on you! Wonderful!
    Love that fossil bag!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thank you all for your lovely comments. This is indeed a different colour combination for me so glad that it meets with YLF approval.

Elly - I agree about echoing the black somewhere when I wear the tank without a topper. Given our miserable and chilly weather, this cognac jacket will not be coming off today!

Rae - I have fallen completely in love with cowl necks. Why, oh why didn't I wear them before???

Amiable - please try your combination. I'd love to see it!

Rita - I'm so happy with this Fossil bag. It works so well with so many things and the quality is amazing.

Angie - wow, thank you so much. I'm not really sure why the skirt/dress and booties combination works for me. You would think given my height and my proportionately short legs that it shouldn't. But I say to heck with conventional thinking and let's get on with having some fun... :)

One of my favorite shades of blue -- NICE! I love all of the texture, pattern, and color you have in this outfit. The blue is so unexpectedly vivid (my kind of twist!). I've seen that handbag before and it is delicious. Thank you for the eye candy!

I love these colours together, chocolate, caramel, butterscotch - yum! It's a super outfit on you.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Sophisticated! I feel like you're taking on a more modernistic look, Shannon.

  • Ginny replied 11 years ago

Shannon, love the color combo and I think the leather jacket pulls everything together so well. Love it. You sure do rock the booties and skirt look for sure!!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks Day Vies, missvee, rachylou and Ginny!

Rachylou - it's interesting you mentioned my style taking on a more modernistic look. I feel like something's changing but not sure what or why.

    Beautiful! So autumn.

Shannon I love that color of blue on you. It looks like a really deep aqua on my monitor. I also like how you have been coordinating the accessories in some of your outfits. Really nice look.

What a great skirt. And I love it paired with the blue and lovely cognac pieces.
