WIW: Black & yellow

I'm finding that the Arctic A/C in my office is cramping my summer style a bit. I always have to plan a topper of some sort and I find at times it takes away from my outfit. Today is the perfect example - I prefer the outfit without the cardigan, but I will freeze if I leave it off.

Anyway…today's outfit started with my black knit pencil skirt. I added my black/taupe/white/yellow abstract tank and then topped that with my black cardigan. I chose my black pointy toe kitten heel pumps for shoes and my citron clutch for handbag. A gold watch, gold wedding band and black/white specs finish off the outfit.

I feel kind of "meh" in this but am not sure why. Any ideas? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Cardigan: Eileen Fisher
Tank: Laura Petite
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Shoes: Calvin Klein
Clutch: Gap

You don't look "meh" but I agree sometimes that third piece is style-cramping. Perhaps it's adding more black to a summery outfit that is making you feel this way.

I see why you like it without the cardigan. The top is lovely. The cardigan is important though, darn a/c.

Well, I don't think there is anything "meh" about  this - I LOVE this top.  I can see why you want to show it off.

All these arctic AC posts have me appreciating our mechanical people... I can go sleeveless in our AC no problem - it's a very comfortable 22 degrees.

I also can see why you prefer without the cardigan. The top is the showpiece here, and it is incredibly flattering! It shows your figure off so beautifully. But what can we do when AC is beating us up? Just wear the cardigan, still look fab, and be comfy. :)

No need to feel meh Shannon, the top is wonderful, and so is the outfit.  I also see why you prefer it without the cardigan, but what can you do.  I have to deal with the similar AC situation at my workplace, so I hear you.

I also prefer it without the cardigan but not so much I would freeze! It looks good with the cardigan too!

Well thank you ladies for your votes of confidence - I think what's missing in this outfit for me is a bit of edge or artiness. It reads very "classic" IMHO and I don't think that's my style aesthetic. Would you agree?

BTW really glad I have this cardigan on though - the temperature in my office is +15 Celcius....brrrrrrrr...

I like it better without the sweater as well. I almost ordered a top from Kohl's in yellow, black and grey because I like your yellow outfits so much.  Unfortunately yellow looks terrible on me and I decided I needed to try it on and see if the yellow was muted enough by the other colors.  I bought a much needed white sleeveless sweater instead.

I dress for summer and then leave a white and a black cardigan at work to add when/if I get cold.  I don't consider them part of my outfit since I don't wear them all day.  I have some tea and get warm and remove the sweater and then I get cold and put it back on.  I go out to a meeting and it's 100 degrees outside so again, I don't need a sweater until I cool down.  I only wear the sweater about half the day.

I think the outfit looks great, but yes, I prefer it w/o the cardigan. I'd say the fun clutch adds a bit of edge, but maybe you are seeking more edge than that these days? In any case, you look classic and fabulous, girlfriend!

Polished, Professional, Modern and Happy. You REALLY wear black well, Shannon - which is not easy to do. xo

Oh my, you look so elegant! I don't know--would a white cardigan help? Too much contrast could backfire and call attention away from that glorious top. How about  a white skirt and cardigan, then? Would that help you feel like it was summer, at least?
15 is colder than I set my house in winter! That's outrageous.

That's a beautifully put-together and polished office look Shannon- nothing meh there.  I have a citron jacket from BCBG that would look great with that top :)  I should investigate Laura!  Angie's right - black is a great colour on you.15C is crazy!  That's colder than I keep my house overnight during the winter-  your office ac boss needs a talking-to.

I love this color combo on you, Shannon!  I know what you mean, though - I'm wanting to wear vests over long sleeve silk blouses lately and am finding it's not enough coverage for the a/c.  Grrrrrr (and brrrrrr).

You look great but I hear you about the A/C taking all the fun out of summer dressing.  I find I wear toppers the most in the summer.

Shannon, you and I are in similar colors today!  I feel you on the third piece cramping your style!  And I feel you on freezing in the a/c!  But you look super fab!  I love that bag!!

I agree, the sleeveless look is smashing (nice arms btw :) ).   I think the cardigan works too, but wonder if wearing a cardigan that was lower contrast to the top (a gray for example) would look more appealing to your eye?
