WIW: Black & Gold for the Cold

It's hard to be inspired with your outfit when really all you want to do is stay under the covers and keep warm. We have a windchill warning this morning and it is currently -42C with the windchill (the temperature on its own is -30C). And no relief in sight for the next 4-5 days from these frigid temperatures. I hate January in Winnipeg!

My outfit started with simple black trousers, to which I added my gold & charcoal snakeskin print blouse. On top of that is my black leather blazer and for footwear, my simple Clarks shooties. For a handbag, I chose my Christopher Kon pebbled black leather with gold hardware hobo style bag.

This outfit isn't exactly exciting but it's warm and comfortable and today, that's what counted. It's interesting to note that originally I put on my slim Calvin Klein cigarette trousers and then changed into these pants - I really am over skinny trousers.

Anyway, what do you think? Proportions ok? Boring or interest? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Leather blazer: Danier Leather
Blouse: Vince Camuto
Trousers: Reitmans
Shooties: Clarks
Handbag: Christopher Kon (consignment)

I hear ya Shannon! It's freezing out East too, though not quite as cold. Brrrr!

Love the black and gold! The trousers look great too, nice change from skinny.

    Keep warm!

Th outfit isn't exactly unexciting either :). I love it. This blouse is a stunner, I love it on you Shannon. To my eye this is an exciting outfit. It is streamlined, classy, modern and elegant.

I Iove the black and gold combination, and, as you have said, that jacket just elevates everything you wear. My sympathies about the cold. Brrrrrrrr!

Ah, how do I understand! Read my rant I just posted: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....s-like-now

You give me ideas and courage for today, Shannon! Thank you!
I agree the yellow blouse fits you very well and is like a warm ray of sunshine, which is something we all need now I think.

This is a good looking outfit. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles but the pieces are strong and look great on you.
I can't even imagine those frigid temperatures. I believe I would put on a parka and not take it off until spring.

Not boring at all! It looks great! Only -20C here, you should come for a spring break ;)

Minimal, stylish, fab! what more can I say?

i like the proportions here and the choice to change pants was a great one. I love the color in your shirt as well!

Can't imagine getting through your winters... I like that we rarely get to freezing temps... Although it would have been nice to have had the predicted 2-4 inches of snow last week.. We ended up with rain since the temperatures stayed 5 degrees above freezing. The night after the snow we hit 3 degrees below freezing.. And by the weekend we had 60 degree temps so go figure!

    Thanks ladies!

Tracey - that is some bizarre weather you are getting!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Very Urban Prince! The Urban Lady Prince is sleeping in :)

(I would hibernate in that type of cold).

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Brrrrr, Shannon. And I thought it was cold around here! Great outfit. You look fantastic!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Shannon: Love the proportions here. I find leather to be curiously lacking in the snuggly factor, which is one reason I don't have a leather jacket. What's your take on leather on cold days?

I'm working from home today. Still in loungewear because I can't decide what to put on.
I have to go out later, so I'd bettter solve my dilemma quickly!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Love. The leather jacket just adds so much style! You look great, Shannon! Love this head to toe!

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I love the fit of the jacket on you and it's so nicely accented with the gold blouse and the purse is super cute! You are right that the cold certainly puts a damper on outfit creativity but I really like this. It makes a simple but strong statement. I love it. (I'd copy it but I don't have a gold blouse or a leather jacket that fits me as well ;-)

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You look wonderful, but how can wearing gold reptile ever be boring?

  • Julie replied 11 years ago

If anyone want's to know what people from "Winterpeg", aka "The Peg" do in the winter, just follow this link. No hibernating allowed!!

I love this on you! The gold blouse looks amazing, and the leather jacket is rally the icing on the cake. For how cold it is, you are really keeping the style strong.

Looks like Canada shared some of that cold with us! Supposed to get down to -27F tonight! It was in the 30s on Saturday.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I love this. You look great in this color scheme. The yellow brightens the black just enough, although in truth because of your creamy complexion you could pull off an all-black outfit.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Sleek! I have a major soft spot for black and gold!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

You warm the cockles of my heart in that lovely column of gold. "Knocking them cold in black and gold!" (from the 80s song "Sex Dwarf" by Soft Cell)

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Texture, pattern, colour - how can this be boring? YLF imo. That jacket was such a good buy!

  • Katiepea replied 11 years ago

I think you've done a wonderful job to look so stylish when it is so cold outside. That yellow blouse in particular is *fantastic*.

We are mid thirties here too at the moment (positive and C). How about between the two of us we find some sort of middle ground, temperature wise? ;-)

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

I think out temps were the same today, I wore my giant parka out!

The gold just tempers the black outfit in a great way, and the print adds the extra dimension. Gorgeous!

  • Krista replied 11 years ago

Simple and modern! I am enjoying the brightness of the gold tucked in between the black. Very chic!

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

You look smashing, Shannon! I can't believe I don't miss the -40 windchill (oh wait, I don't!) :p I love the look, and the shape of your handbag. It looks very soft. Like glove leather. :)

It must be CaRMS week! The program directors used to always complain it was -40 and that's why no one liked our programs :p

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I am sure you had snow melting where you stepped - this gold shirt just radiant enough for that! Not mentioning that your cool leather jacket is pretty hot as well :-)
We have a cold day today too. Nothing I can impress you with (just mere -12C) but it feels pretty extreme after +10C last week!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Angie - the Urban Lady Prince was the smart one! She didn't go out into the cold.

Beth Ann - you're right in that I wouldn't describe leather as "snuggly" but I do find it warm and comforting just in a different way than a big wooly sweater.

Julie - whoo hoo! Let's hear it for The Peg!!!

Thistle - oh dear - sorry about that!

Denise - I do confess that I love an all black outfit....hmmmm....might have to do that this week...

JulieJohn - you crack me up!

Caro - I can't believe I hesitated over paying what I did for this jacket. It was worth every single penny!

Katiepea - I would love to "split the difference" with you on the temperature. Let me know how we can arrange that - lol!

lyn - OMG - isn't that the truth? It's always miserable for CaRMS! This handbag is butter soft lamb leather. If I ever stop using it as a handbag, I'm going to use it for a pillow (hardware side down, of course - lol!).

Sveta - that's just cruel, going from +10 to -12!

Thanks Carole, Kelly, Day Vies, Joy, Rae, Tina, and Krista!

I don't know why you think it's unexciting. It's bold in color but streamlined in pieces. I like it very much and would wear it in an instant.
