WIW: Black & Cream

Today's outfit was built around this graphic black and cream ponte knit skirt. I think this is my favourite skirt in my closet right now. It is thick, warm and extremely comfortable. Plus the graphic pattern just makes me happy.

I paired the skirt with a simple knit sleeveless tank and semi-opaque black tights. On top of the tank, I've added my cream leather jacket. After all, it's -40 Celcius and a girl needs a little warmth!

I've chosen my black patent booties for footwear and my large cream handbag, red specs and swipe of red lipstick to finish off the outfit.

When I step out the door, I will have on my knee length red puffer coat, winter white scarf and gloves and my knee high Blondo boots (I carry my indoor footwear in a shoe bag to work).

What are your thoughts on this outfit? All comments welcome.

Jacket and handbag: Danier Leather
Tank: Sears
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Boots: Ara

By the way, I have three new items on their way to me: the leather sleeve/wool EF jacket; an animal print skirt from Cleo Petite; a purple blazer from Cleo Petite. All items purchased on significant discount. And that's it for shopping for a while for reasons I'll explain in an Off Topic section when I have time (good reasons for a change!).

I'm also really enjoying remixing my current items and am truly very happy with my wardrobe. So brace yourselves for seeing items over and over but hopefully in interesting ensembles.

If I remember correctly, you started out a bit on the fence about this skirt. I think it's pretty stunning and glad it works so well for you. The bold graphic makes its statement, but the color makes it a neutral. Really versatile and flattering. A great outfit for the new year.

You and Sveta (in her Toronto post) look like you've taken a page from the same style book (whose middle name is Danier, LOL.) Fab outfit, Shannon, and glad you are enjoying the skirt!

I wish you'd quit having those boots so I could have them :)  I LOVE a patent anything and am always on the lookout for something cool.  This would work!

Is it really -40 this morning?  Yikes. I'm headed to the gym, but will wear my new black/white ponte skirt out to lunch and work  with you as inspiration today !

-40C?? Really? That sounds terrible! If it were that cold here, I would hibernate under piles of wool, and never ever look as stylish as you. We had -15C during the holidays and that were quite enough.

I love the graphic skirt and the black/cream theme. It looks crisp and fresh to me, and very you. Classic, polished and modern to my eye.

-40? I am speechless. It is +40 here and I am freezing! You do look terrific in that leather jacket and skirt though!

Ooh, you look so fab, Shannon. I can't believe your temps. I would just live in a down sleeping bag! Love the longer hair too.

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

I don't think I could move my legs if the temps were that cold!  You look great, I love the black and cream.

Brrrr! You are looking fab! Love the patent booties too. And I especially like your red specs as a little hit of colour.

Is it the power of a graphic skirt,  the one of the black and whites(&textures), or both? Can it be more fab than that? I don't think so! WOW!:-)

    Came back to edit:

-What????? -40°C????????????????? And still alive??? OMG:-(

Sorry I couldn't get back to this until now - busy, busy day today.

    Thanks for your lovely comments.

Nebraskim - just to clarify, it was the black and white broken dot Tildon skirt that I was on the fence about. Although I've had that altered and love it. This skirt I loved right away.

Love this skirt, it is a definite statement piece and can be so versatile.  I love this styling.  Great booties and bag.

Hi Shannon, you look super as always.  I love how black just doesn't wash you out, if possible it even makes you look younger.  Your skin looks so dewy and radiant!  #Envy!

This is a beautiful outfit and I love how you use the whites. It really lifts the outfit and creates a statement.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

How on earth can you look SO good at -40. I know it's heated inside, but your inner warmth shines through too. My inner icicle would shine through.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

A winner!  I would recognize this as a Shannon outfit anywhere.

We still have no snow, but our temps have dropped and we are going to hit below zero tonight for the wolf moon.  I may have to break out a puffer!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

And I thought -22 was bad!

You're doing beautiful things with black and white this winter, Shannon.  I love a strong graphic print, and it's even better with a little Danier magic!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

You have -40 and we have +40 so to speak :)  Wanna swap!!

Lovely outfit.  This is the type of modern, corporate look I love.  The skirt is fabulous and you are so rocking my fave black and white.

Fantastic skirt!  Love!  Nice bag too, which is it?  Whole outfit is chic and your hair is looking great too :)

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

    Skirt-love here too!
In such temps you must be unable to be outdoors for any period of time?
    I just can't imagine it!!
