WIW: Black & Blue

Good morning Fabber beauties! I'm so enjoying posting my outfits again - it keeps me on my style toes, you know?

Today's outfit centres around this recently thrifted skirt. It's a black and bluish-purple patterned cotton pencil skirt with a very simple shape. Easy to dress up or down I figure and also quite seasonless - picture it with black sandals and tank in the heat. Here, I've paired it with a simple black pullover and my black footless leggings for warmth.

To play up the purple bits in the skirt, I've chosen my blue-purple suede booties for footwear and grabbed my navy leather handbag. Rose gold/black watch, gold wedding band, red specs and red lipstick finish off the outfit.

I will admit that my happiness level is pretty darned high with this outfit. It's simple, figure flattering (I think?), comfortable and non-fussy.

What are your thoughts? does this all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Pullover: Sears
Skirt: Joe Fresh (thrifted)
Leggings: Calvin Klein
Booties: Aerosoles
Watch: Fossil (eBay)
Handbag: Coach (gift)

Oh my, this is SO SIMPLE yet SO STYLISH... I think the booties make all the difference in the world.  Nicely done!

And it's great to have you back posting again :)

I think it is the fluid fit of the sweater and the structured bag that makes this apparently simple outfit look so current and fab.

Thanks for the closeup of that skirt -- otherwise the color play was hard to pick up. Amazing choice with the booties! Such a great outfit.

Thank Elizabeth :) These booties have been nothing short of amazing workhorses for me. They were one of the first items I purchased when I joined YLF and were an Angie pick. I have worn them a TON and yet they're still going strong. The pop of purple of my feet always makes me smile.

Cross posted Shevia and Viva :) I know dark colors are soooooo hard to photograph so knew I had to include a close up of the skirt otherwise the subtle pattern would never be noticed.

What an interesting skirt!  I really like that pattern!  I'm interested in the pullover - it looks like it has shirt cuffs?  I'm on a quest at the moment - because, AGAIN, I made a buying mistake with a black sweater bought to go over a skirt just like this (patterned pencil) and it's too big and boxy and looks like a blob over the skirt. Yours seems to be a perfect blend of fluid and reigned in.

And those purple boots have to be among the best things you have - they go with everything!!

Love that skirt, and purple booties elevate the outfit from "just one of them"  to the most fab, simple yet so very  stylish!

Lisa - finally back to answer your question. The pullover has these flat bows that are quite retro in style - although they flop around a little bit here and there and the sleeves are 3/4 length. I've had this pullover for a couple of years now and I have to say the quality is just stellar. No fading or pilling at all. I find for wearing with pencil skirts, a fluid knit with a welt at the bottom works best for me. The welt pulls in any excess volume at the hip area so it takes away the boxiness.

Lisa/Lyn - these purple booties are such a fave of mine.

I bet that skirt dazzles in the light. GREAT complement with the booties. And your red specs always make your outfit even happier - along with your infectious smile. xo
