WIW: Birks & Midi to work

Oh Angie…I can't tell you how happy I am that Birks have somehow found their way into the trends and become stylish. My weird little high volume feet LOVE them :)  I'm also completely enamoured with the Birks with skirts/dresses trend - you just never know what's going to strike your style fancy do you???

So today's outfit started with my black and white striped VC tube skirt (the narrower stripes work better on my fuller figure than the wide stripes I find). I paired the skirt with my black lace short sleeved fluid pull over. This is the twin to the cream lace pullover I bought. I loved that one so much that I quickly duplicated it in black. I then topped that all with my white leather jacket for outdoors and possibly as a blazer in my office, which I find chilly from time to time. Then on went my fabulous black and white polka dot Birks……"aaaaahhhhhh" went my feet…

To finish off the outfit, I added a pop of citron with my small leather clutch, my taupe and silver wrap watch, red specs and swipe of watermelon coloured lipstick. Yep. This feels like ME.

So I'm interested in hearing what y'all think of the Birks with a midi on short me. Do you think it works? Does the outfit work as a whole? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Pullover: Smart Set
Skirt: Vince Camuto
Sandals: Birkenstock
Clutch: Gap
Watch: Fossil
Jacket: Danier Leather

BTW I would normally think that Birks would be too casual for my office. But when you see the President wearing them with khakis at work…I think you're probably ok :)

Gotta say they look great to me!

Love the Birks and citron together! This is a look I'll definately try to copy :-) I'm surprising myself of embracing the Birks trend - I was so skeptical, but find myself loving the trend so much that I bought myself black Birks yesterday.

I think that this kind of purchase also is very easy to defend if you like Birks for indoor use. I mean, you will always find a way to wear them at home, so they won't become closet orphans. At least that's how I'm reasoning

This outfit makes me so happy! Love it!

I really like this, especially with the blazer to give it structure. Your citron bag is the perfect finishing touch.

What a great stylish birks outfit! Looks intentional and fab!

I think this works on you, Shannon. And how nice for your feet to be so happy.

    You nailed it!  Perfection Shannon!

Wow, what a great look for you, Shannon! I may have to revisit my reluctance to jump on the Birks bandwagon (they were SUCH a part of an earlier life for me).

I think the outfit is totally cute, but would not wear Birks for work.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Those Birks are so cute! They are subtle enough that the pattern won't fight other patterns. The outfit is fabulous on you.

Harmonica - I look forward to seeing your Birks outfits. They really are more versatile than I thought. And it is true that even if they hadn't worked for certain outfits, I would still wear them around the house and yard.

Sarah - it's hard to get memories of how we used to wear an item out of our head in order to embrace the "new" way of wearing them isn't it?

unfrumped - I completely understand. Just so you know, I did ask the President yesterday what he thought of wearing Birks to work and he promptly said "look at my feet" and smiled and here he was wearing them. I definitely wanted to make sure it was appropriate. I would not wear them on days when I had any meetings but I'm in the office filing and working on minutes today. But I do get that they would not be appropriate in most office settings.

Thanks for the feedback ladies :)

YES. Soooo 2014. Well done, you trendy little fashionista. You rock this look - and with happy feet. Killer stunning in #3 especially. xo

Sassy! I love this on you!

I think this is perfect, I like it way better than the model versions from Angie's post. You have the legs and ankles to make any footwear look fab -  nothing to fear about wearing more comfortable footwear!

  • replied 9 years ago

Good lord! So fab! You may even have convinced me to like the look of birkies. So stylish.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not into the Birks as a trend thing (more in my comment on Angie's post about it), but appreciate the comfort they offer and I get the thing that they're doing fashion-wise. Phew. OK! I like the jacketed version of this outfit best, it looks super to me. Very intentional, and stronger outfit juxtaposition. Those are the keys for me. Without the jacket I know that you're being fashionable, but to the untrained eye it may be tough to tell. If that's a concern, which of course it may not be :)
