WIW: Aviators & Citron

Today is the debut of my J Brand Aviator trousers I bought. These are my wild card item for the season - they are slouchy and almost "balloon-like" in the legs and I absolutely love them. The fabric is divine and they are like wearing dressy pajama bottoms!

Because it snowed yesterday evening (uugggghhhh!) I'm not wearing my pointy toe ankle strap shoes but instead, my Doc Marcie boots with the Aviators. But I like how the zippered bottom of the trouser leg looks with the wedge combat-style boots. I added a simple black leather belt and then chose my abstract print citron/white/grey/black/taupe drapey tank, with faux tuck. To put structure back into the outfit, I chose my black leather blazer for a topper and scrunched the sleeves. To further play up the citron in the tank, I went with my small citron leather clutch for a handbag. No jewelry other than wedding band and a simple silver ring on the other hand, and my purple/clear glasses.

I'm really happy with how this turned out and think that adding the right top/topper can easily make these casual trousers into a work appropriate item. What do you think? Does it all work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Danier Leather
Tank: Laura Petite
Trousers: J Brand
Boots: Doc Martens
Clutch: Gap

Love this! The volume of the pant works as you have a lovely bit of structure up top with jacket and tank, fabulous! Love the touches of citron too.

What a great outfit. The citron pops really work with the black and I like the baggier fit of the pants with the sleek fit of the jacket and top. YLF!

Love this -- I would LOVE to step into your "jacket closet" you really do have one for every occasion!

If you purchased the floral skirt, this jacket w/the Docs would be a nice edgy combo

Snow in April is just wrong.  I feel you.  But you look great in spite of it all.  Yeah for Friday!!

    Sharp!

Really nice.  Hits the 'I'm cool, and it's effortless and comfortable' vibe dead center. :D   I love that tank on you.

I think the pants work just fantastic how you have styled them, but also might be fun to try tucked into the top of those boots sometime.  You'll probably be able to tell right away if it's a proportion that works for you or not.

Citron is such a nice, springy boost to this fab black ensemble.  Love the pants, and I think you'll have lots of fun (and comfort) with them this season!

Wow, love this to bits Shannon!  I need a leather blazer now (thanks a lot! haha!).  The clutch is just the perfect accessory.  Great job!

I love the fresh, bright citron on you and on a grey day (here, at least). Your trousers look super comfy and chic at the same time. Another Wonderful Shannon Outfit!

Great look!  I love the pants with the boots.  I'm sure it will look good with the pointy toed shoes also, but the boots look great.

A great way to face Snow in April, a pop of citron, love it!

With Rute and Harmonica, I need more citron! Love the aviators too. Did you get any comments on them at work?

  • EveningMood replied 10 years ago

You are rocking those pants, and this is seriously beautiful! Way to make me crave citron even more :)

Well my goodness ladies, thanks so much :)

Confession time - I'm so in love with these pants that I want to live and sleep in them!!! Already scouring eBay for a second pair in a different color.

Leopardluxe - I like how the blazer keeps the outfit structured with the volume of the pants too.

Von - love your suggestion for the floral skirt. Now I just need to get to the store to try it on! And yeah...I have a bit of a jacket addiction :)

Una - it's funny cause I thought of you yesterday when I was getting dressed (does that sound creepy?). Your questions to me when I first bought and showed these trousers really made me think about the purchase and because I really thought it through and played in my closet with them, I like them all the more. So thank you!

Rabbit - I like your tucking idea but unfortunately the boots are extremely fitted at the ankle and calf and the bulk of the zipper and elastic bottom on the pants just wouldn't work.

Joy - I did get two comments at work about the pants and both were very complimentary! I feel like I'm breaking barriers - lol!

And ladies - y'all need a bit of citron :)
