WIW: "Autumnizing" the summer frock

I bought this sleeveless summer dress from Cleo Petite with the full intention of wearing it year round - on its own or with a light topper in summer and then with booties and a heavier topper in fall, and then finally with tights, boots and topper for winter.

Today is the autumn version. Plus it's the debut of my black leather jacket which I can tell already is going to become a favourite. To add even more "edge" to the dress and leather jacket combo, I've added my Doc Marcies for footwear ("hello Marcie - I've missed you!) and a black patent faux croc leather handbag. Jewelry is limited to two rings.

I feel great in this outfit and a little bit bad a**. What do you think? Proportions work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Leather jacket: Danier Leather
Dress: Cleo Petites
Boots: Doc Martens Marcies
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Rings: Lia Sophia

Shannon, this is an absolute winner. The dress looks great and the leather is perfect with it. I love how you have kept the accessories neutral to emphasize the gorgeous green.

Imagine how nice the B&W Maggie London wrap would look with red leather jacket and booties. It would be the same idea in reverse. (enabling...)

I think I'd kill to look like you in this outfit.
I'd also kill for the dress.
Maybe I'd better lay off the coffee this morning. :)
    Seriously, you look fantastic!

Edgy was the first word that came to mind. I LOVE this combo!

Ha! Shannon, we must be linked somehow mentally because I was totally going to wear mine today too, with a black velvet blazer on top, and black booties. Unfortunately it was pouring rain and I had a 20 minute walk to the bus stop so wore something a little more rain/commuter friendly!

I love this Shannon, it looks great.

Great look Shannon - well done on seasonal change (and attitude change) for a lovely dress. I'm all layered up today too in something similar. I added a button down under my dress AND a blazer on top (would love a black leather, but probably not for my office)

Ha! Every time I put on my Marcies I feel bada**. :-)

You look terrific here, Shannon! That is such a terrific and versatile dress.

    KILLER

You wear black very well :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Bada** indeed. Consider the dress Autumn-ated! Looooove that jacket; so glad your leather jacket search had a happy ending.

I love the kick-butt leather jacket on you with this darling dress! :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Thanks everybody!

Dianthus - didn't get the red leather jacket. Went and tried it on again and it just didn't fit as well as I thought.

Ceit - too funny! Hopefully it's not raining tomorrow so you can wear it!

Angie - as I said in Caro's post this morning, I find the more silver in my hair the better I look in black. Somehow the silver "lightens" the look somehow. Thanks for the k-rating!

*Clunk* Great outfit, Shannon! It looks fantastic on you. You have definitely autumnized the dress, without even making it look like you had to do anything special to do so, if you know what I mean. That's the mark of true wardrobe workhorse pieces, I think. (Never mind the wearer who carries it off so well!) I haven't been around long enough to see the Marcies on anyone before...oh, boy, do I like them. Drooling.

LOVE!!!! This is such a great outfit. Love the Marcie's and the leather jacket especially - great way to toughen up and autumnize the dress. (giving a ginger pat to kitty who looks like he is guarding over his treasures).

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thank you Beth - Suz, Rae, Vicki and probably a few others I can't think of at the moment, also have the Marcies. For something with that kind of heel height, they are incredibly comfortable.

lyn - whoa...I don't think I've ever owned anything "kick butt" before!

Christy - Gain says "thanks" for the pats. He's such a photo hog - lol!

I have a few pair of booties and have only worn them with pants. You have inspired me to try them with skirts and dresses. It would appear that a knee length skirt is the trick to keep from looking chopped off.
I have got to learn to upload pictures.

Shannon you are a runaway snowball! Snowball, because the fabness just keeps growing and growing. I should just duplicate your wardrobe. You've achieved the perfect look for *my* life. LOL.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Amazing look on you - I love the way you wear your clothes.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Moira - definitely try the booties with a skirt or dress. It does take some getting used to and getting your eyes to adjust to a different look, but once you do - oh, it's sooooo much fun!

    Rachylou & Caro - *blushing*
