WIW: At a ridiculous hour

Had a crazy wind and rain storm last night (rain in January is unheard of in my hometown) and the power kept going off and on. As a result my alarm clock was completely screwed up this morning and when I got out of the shower I realized I was up a full hour before normal. Oh well…one large cup of coffee coming up!

Because it's still windy and rather miserable out, comfort and warmth was key today. I started today's outfit with my green cashmere sweater. I added that to my black skinnies and added my black leather belt and a semi tuck. Angie is sooooo right when she talks about how well a sweater with a welt semi tucks.

For footwear I went with my Doc Marcie boots and chose with my black leather handbag. Gold wedding band and rose gold/black watch finish off the outfit. Sometimes the little details tickle my fancy like how the gold in the watch mimics the gold hardware on the handbag.

This is simple outfit but hopefully it still looks put together - what do you think? Everything look ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Ok…off to brew that coffee now...

Pull over: Lord & Taylor
Skinnies: Attitude by Jay Manuel
Belt & handbag: Danier Leather
Boots: Doc Martens
Watch: Fossil (eBay)

Ooooooooh- so that's a semi tuck...! Thanks!!

I agree- that colour looks great on you! Is it cold out? Do you need a scarf and coat? I would love to see how you layer up with this (if it's seasonally appropriate of course!).

Simple and chic! I love turquoise and I like it here with black. Shame about the alarm clock though :( I actually set mine wrong once and I'd already got DS up, before I realised my mistake, he wasn't very pleased!

I was up at 3 am. I'll drink that coffee with you.
The green sweater is gorgeous on you. I especially like those Docs as a touch that adds something special to the simple classic outfit.

Nice and cozy, the green looks great on you and I love your boots. I did not know that Martens made dressy looking boots like yours.
The weather is going crazy. As long as we don't get ice storms we will be OK.

You look terrific and full of energy - especially for someone who had no sleep. I like this sweater on you a lot.

  • E replied 10 years ago

This is beautifully simple & you look stunning!

I read YLF while I drink my morning tea out of a gigantic mug. :)

  • Alexandra replied 10 years ago

Simple and cozy! An extra hour in the day is a nice treat.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

It's funny how this sweater photographs more teal/turquoise than it is - it is a true Kelly/emerald green IRL.

Shevia - the semi tuck has been my singularly most important style tip EVER. Honestly...that tiny little change revolutionized my style.

Joy - up at 3:00??? Oh my...I hope you can have a nap some time during the day.

Thanks for lovely comments ladies :)

ETA: fuzzylogic - oh I absolutely bundle up when heading outdoors. I live in a major winter climate locate with freezing cold temperatures, lots of snow and a fair bit of wind. When I stepped outside this morning I had on top of my outfit a cobalt blue leather down-filled puffer coat and white scarf/mitts.

Love this color on you, just fabulous and the semi tuck is such a nice touch! Love those wedge boots!

One of my goals this year is to get up earlier so I can enjoy the morning instead of running around like a mad person.  Maybe I should set my clock ahead an hour.  :)  I love how you describe how you put together an outfit and this one looks perfect for cold, wet weather.

Love the green, and the bit of shine in the booties adds a little "pop."

I woke up way late ........ University starts next week, so I'd better reset my internal clock!

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

All kinds of awesome. That green is divine on you!

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

Simple and stylish.  And yes, I agree... it's that tucking - elevates an outfit from "I just put this on" to "I meant to wear this with this".  And you've got it nailed.

Next time you wear skinnies with your Doc's could you take a sideways shot? If you remember? :) Whenever I try to wear that combo, all I can see is the grey wedge, so I end up changing footwear.  It's silly, because I don't feel that way wehn wearing htem with a dress/skirt.  I guess it's because much of the rest of the boot is covered.  Maybe if I see it on you, I'll get a better sense how the big pic looks.  You know how we never see the big picture when it's yourself...

And rain?  In Winnipeg?  In January?   Yeesh..............

  • Peri replied 10 years ago

Wow, I love that shade of green on you! Really beautiful! You look cozy and stunning.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Love this look! It's very... awake! Haha. Yet easy and comfortable.

Btw, you know, I found a pair of wedge booties with fur lining, which remind me of yours. They're very good. I'm look extra stylish walking the dog.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

Good morning :) great outfit. Easy comfortable and super stylish and I love those boots. I have been looking for a pair over here, another HEWI for me.
    You look great :)

  • shemarie replied 10 years ago

Not too simple. At. All.  Effortless, casual, chic rather!  That teal/green color is stunning on you!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Sleek and simple works great, in my book, and that green sweater is a beautiful color on you.
I hope the caffeine was enough to keep you going today after not getting much sleep!

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Love it - simple and strong. Gorgeous color on you.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Oooh, gorgeous!  I may need to copy that formula next week!

And that green color loves you.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

This outfit looks good to me.That's a really pretty aqua shade.  And I really appreciate that you do a close up shot of your accessories.  I didn't realize those boots were wedges until the last photo, how fun!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Simple, sleek & very you :)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

You look delightfully cozy. Wonderful to see you post!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Elizabeth - will do! I know what you mean about the grey wedge but look at it this way - if the wedge was black then they'd just look like another pair of wedges!

    Rachy - fur lined wedges...oooooohhhh

    Thanks ladies :)

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Strong, simple, happy, no-nonsense, modern - and clearly you are a morning person. (Me too).

Think how fab deep red specs would look with this outfit. xo

  • carter replied 10 years ago
