WIW: Argyle, Tweed & Snakeskin

I have quite a bit of running around today (indoors and outdoors) so I'm afraid no dress for me. But an interesting discovery has popped up this week with the dress challenge - I am not reaching for my dresses as much as I used to. It appears these days, I prefer trousers. Now maybe that's due to the warmth factor, but it will be interesting to see as Spring rolls around, if that's still the case.

So today's outfit started with my tweed-ish trousers (waving to trouser twin Sveta). I decided to add a colourful and graphic sweater so popped on my turquoise/cream/citron argyle pull over. To pull out the cream in the tweed and the sweater a bit more, I've added my python booties. Plus they are super comfortable for a day on the go. My handbag is my black/cream leather one. A simple outfit but happiness factor is extremely high.

I did briefly wonder if my cream leather handbag would work with this - curious, do you think a cream handbag is too spring-ish to pull out in the dead of winter?

What do you think? Do you prefer me in trousers or dresses? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: St. John's Bay (thrifted)
Trousers: Jessica (Sears brand)
Booties: Sam Edelman
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

I wouldn't say I prefer you in trousers to dressers but you do look great in these. And I am in favor of your pulling out the cream bag now!

What if you just call the cream handbag winter white? Then it is totally appropriate. I love the bright pop of color in your sweater!

    Gorgeous, as always!
I would love to see this ensemble with the cream handbag. And if it feels too Spring, at least you know how to put together a seasonally appropriate look for a colder spring day!

Yes to the "winter white" handbag.

I think you could get mileage into spring with this look! That sweater isn't my favourite of yours but I do like the colours and the bookending with the shoes!

I love argyle and tweed of course. I would like to see the winter white bag with this to tie in the booties.

Great trousers, and the sweater is very fun! Have a great day!

A very happy outfit indeed, and I'm sure very comfy and practical for your day. Perfect! I really like the idea of a winter white bag. I have no suggestions, you have nailed it already.

Such a wonderful, fun and happy outfit. I say go for the cream bag as we need a little bit of spring in the dead of winter.
It is hard to choose between trousers and dresses. To me, you look equally fab in both.

I wear my cream bag - granted is colorblocked with black- in winter.
I found the same thing myself with dresses. I used to be all about them last winter. This winter, not so much.

You look fantastic and ready to take on the day. Sadly, I am a bit under the weather so I'm staying home. I'm just tired. No dress or scarf either for me.

You look so modern with the tuxedo stripes on your pants and those fab booties. Bright color suits you, and I'd like to see a picture of you holding the cream handbag with an outfit like this (to see if it indeed looks too spring-y).

A happy colourful outfit! Yes, in favour of the 'winter white' handbag :)

This is such a fun, cozy outfit. Love this bag with it but I'm sure I would equally love the other.

Interesting about the pull towards trousers. I'm definitely wearing fewer dresses this year, too. I just don't reach for them as much.

A year ago, a dress "challenge" would not even have been a challenge for you -- you'd have done it without a thought. And you still have lots of beautiful dresses to choose from.

As for me, a year ago I could have done this easily also. This year, I only have two winter wearable dresses and one (I learned) is past its prime, and I don't much feel like wearing the other! How times change. I guess this is what an evolving style is all about.

Love the colors in the sweater and the whole outfit really looks really fantastic on you! (and I'm not even a lover of Argyle). I can see why you've been loving trousers with those cold temps.

  • Glory replied 11 years ago

Shannon - you cannot go wrong in one of my fave colours! Love that sweater on you.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you look fantastic. I wouldn't say I see you on a trouser bend - it's more like you go in little spurts. You will come back to your dresses - enjoy the whole gamut!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooh, so cool pairing the trendy stripe with the classic argyle! Love! It's amazing what perfect-fitting trousers can do, right? Too bad it is SO hard to find them; I wish I had more like you. :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Hmmmm....there seems to be a bit of a push for me to dig out that cream handbag!

Una - you are right, I do go in spurts, and I know my love of dresses will come back at some point. I'm enjoying the change and just going with the flow.

Suz - always evolving. And that's a good thing!

Ceit - may I ask what about this sweater doesn't work for you? I'm always wanting to learn.

Rae - yep, perfect fitting pants are tough to find. I guess this is where Angie's PPP comes in.

    Thanks everyone!

Yes to cream! Love this outfit. I'd wear it in a second --- if the pants fit!

I'll try to post my dress tonight -- if I make it 30 miles on fhe freeway in this snow! Oh well, have puffer and boots --- will travel!

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Bring out the cream, err, winter white bag!!

I love those booties, expecially the way they bookend with the top. Looks like a warm, cozy, and cheery outfit.

You really are rocking the bright colors these days!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Beth Ann - drive carefully!

Thistle - can you believe I really hesitated about these booties working for me? I really should just trust Angie every single time!

  • catherine replied 11 years ago

Ah, what a great outfit. You sure have style. You look good in dresses, too.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

You might just be up for a trouser change. You'll love your frocks again soon.

I love the way your salt and pepper pants pick up the hues in your hair! You look fun and graphic with a dash of Preppy!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Wow, that's such a fun and cheery sweater and you look fantastic! Love the way your booties go with so much in your closet and blend so nicely with that bag.

  • replied 11 years ago

I think it is mainly I don't care for large scale argyle? Or the colours I find jarring together in the oversized print? I don't know exactly. I love the similar colours together in you L&T striped sweater. I think it just looks cartoony -- but I could see it more in spring or summer with a white bottom?

Heh I am a muddle.-- it certainly doesn't look bad on you, I just like other things in your closet better on you!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Shannon I must say that my jaw dropped to hear you aren't reaching for your frocks these days!! Your fabulous dresses are something I always associate with your style (same with Kari), but happily you also look equally fab in trousers :) FUN outfit, love the textured pants with snakeskin booties. I think the cream bag would be just fine here (and probably go a bit better). PS: I so and totally want those amazing trousers!
