WIW: Angie's Tube Skirt Formula

Ran a bunch of errands this morning and early afternoon - it's a glorious day here - sunny and warm, but not hot. Perfect day to try out the tube skirt formula that Angie illustrated to us so well.

I did end up cutting off 1.5 inches off the bottom of the skirt to make it a little easier to stride in but still keep the midi length and taper. I paired the skirt with a bright coral-red sleeveless drapey cotton tank and my cream/black quilted leather flats. For my handbag, I'm wearing my grey Lug. It's not the prettiest bag in the world but it worked well for all my errands.

I have the feeling the tank may be just a smidge too long for the skirt - what do you think? Have I pulled off Angie's tube skirt formula correctly? Do you find it flattering? As always, all comment/suggestions welcome.

Angie: Huge THANK YOU for showing us other ways to dress when being MOTG. I was super comfy in this ensemble but felt kind of dressed up at the same time. And two random people complimented me on my outfit when I was running around :)

Tank: Gap (thrifted)
Skirt: Vince Camuto
Flats: Shelly London (thrifted)
Handbag: Lug

Hey, Shannon, I absolutely love the color combo you have going on here.  I love bright colors and high contrast so this outfit is right up my alley!  Plus I'm sure you know I love the skirt, too!

I don't think the shirt looks bad at all.  I applaud you for doing a little volume on top because I couldn't get it to work.  I ended up putting a jean jacket over the top of my tube skirt outfit to give it more structure!

I think one thing that could be making it look off to your eye is that the shirt is not straight across, it has the dip in the center from the gathered fabric.

Huge fan of crossbody purses here so I would never be one to comment negatively on that.  We need function in our lives sometimes, and your day of errands sounds like it needed that bag to make it fuss-free for you.

I agree about opening our eyes to new MOTG formulas and pieces.

Curious to hear what others have to say about the top length.

Shannon I think the proportions are perfect.  The tank is the perfect length IMHO.  I really like this.  I have struggled a bit with the midi length and cut my striped tube skirt to knee length, but I do like the midi.  It is so elegant and while the overal look is modern and a bit trendy the midi length brings 'class' to the overal look.  Love the tank.

Shannon, you are simply beautiful. I love this outfit on you, and I wouldn't change a thing! The color of that tank puts the roses in your cheeks and the graphic skirt and flats are so fashionable and smart looking. Proportions look perfect to me! :)  Love your "bay-rans" too.

Love this!  And isn't a stretchy skirt the best thing?

I like the longer tank with a skirt this length and shape.  It makes is more casual, and cooler.  You could belt it to bring it up a bit, if you'd prefer.

Oh, I like your rendition so much better than mine!

Great casual outfit.  It looks chic yet oh so comfy.  I like the drapey top with the tighter skirt, nice job!

Delicious!  Love the tube skirt and tank.  I think the length works well!

Thank you all for your comments. I felt rather fab in this ensemble and can see myself repeating it often.

Angie - you made me blush :)

    Looking goood.....

Gorgeous! Love the asymmetrical hem on the tank - I was really surprised to see it was from Gap.

Shannon, the top grabbed my attention immediately. It looks so flowy, dressy and comfortable at the same time. The striped skirt adds a new level of fun, while the length is modern and looks great on you. I love the tapering you did too. The shoes are a great finishing touch.

You have found the perfect length for your skirt. Great interpretation of Angie's formula!

I can't wait to try this as a summer ensemble TS - it looks fabulous! I have the same issue as Deborah in that I battle with the idea of a midi skirt length but I am determined to try get it right.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Shannon- I love this on you. The shape and color of the top makes the outfit. YLF!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

No, don't touch the tank! It's perfect. This outfit is perfect.

I love it!  proportions look fab.

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

I think this looks great. That red is terrific on you.

You've got me rethinking my decision to return the NAS tube skirts I got (they were a twofer deal, and I did a BBQ of solid black and black and grey stripe). I was thinking that I don't get much wear out of the skirts I already have, but I really like how casual and easy you have it here for summer. Hmmm.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Janet - I really didn't think I would wear a skirt as a casual daytime weekend item, but it was even more comfy than shorts and I felt kinda "snappy" in it. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try...

Hil and Deborah - we "vertically challenged" types can pull off the midi length too!

Rachy - I promise not to touch the tank.

Thank you everyone for your comments :)

Sorry I am late to this -- Shannon, this looks really good. It looks comfortable but put together. I think you will have a lot of fun playing with different styling options!

  • Debra replied 10 years ago
