WIW: A white shirt for Amy

About two weeks ago, I had commented on one of Amy's stunning outfits that she was making me reconsidering layering a white shirt under a sweater and she promptly challenged me give it a go. So today is the day.

I started with my simple navy trousers and then added my white button down. On top of the shirt, I added my navy sparkly sweater. The hi-lo hemline of the sweater allows just a bit of the white shirt to peek out in the front, which I really like. I've added my python booties for a touch of lightness to bookend the shirt and my cobalt/yellow snakeskin clutch for a bit more texture and colour.

Happiness scale? Too high to count! I'm surprised at how much I like the stiffer shirt as I thought I was kind of done with them....hmmmm....food for thought. Thank you Amy for pushing me to give this a try.

What do you think? Does this kind of look work for me? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Trousers: NJP Petite
Shirt: Jessica (Sears brand)
Sweater: Laura Petite
Boots: Sam Edelman
Clutch: Trouve

P.S. Gain wants to know if I'm done taking my pics yet as he is sure he's going to starve if I don't hurry and feed him!

The white shirt looks great under that sweater. Love the bit of sparkle! Another great outfit, Shannon!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Love this buttoned up white shirt on you. No wonder happiness factor is too high to count.

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I like the outfit. The sparkly sweater looks good over the button-up. Even I've been wanting to layer a button-up with a sweater for some time now. Will wear it soon.

I'm a little biased here because this look is very much my cup of tea. And I love everything here: from the dressy, crisp white button-down under your high-low sweater with subtle sparkle to the snakeskin print booties and your animal print clutch (love that both accessories are a different colour). Hope Gain is happy again in the meantime too;-)

I love how you dressed up this button-down shirt with a little sparkle. I am studying your shirt-tails and sweater hem --- polished! I love the python panache in the booties and clutch. Very NICE!

Love! This is just perfect on you Shannon. And I love how you captured Gain's hopeful expression too.

Now, I really have to try a white shirt under a sweatter, meeee, too.
    It LF!:-)

    Totally PINNED!!

I want that sweater. You are SUCH a good shopper, lady. I need to come shopping with you.

Poor Gain...he is beautiful, but he doesn't compare to his lovely caregiver!

Looks great Shannon! I should try something like this, perhaps it will get me to like stiff shirts again, as by themselves they aren't doing much for me!

Suz - I can take no credit for this beautiful sweater. It was my Christmas gift from my son. I'm tickled that you pinned this outfit :)

Inge - Gain is quite happy now that he's had his breakfast and thanks you for your concern :) Can you believe that you and Angie actually had to convince me that I could wear these booties???

Ceit - I think you've hit on something with your comment. I was feeling out of love with crisp button up shirts but somehow layering the soft sweater over top of it has taken that "restrictive" feeling out of the shirt. I don't know how else to explain it. Give it a try - it might surprise you.

Thank you Raisin, Mona, Asingh, Day Vies, Shevia, & Lyn!

As always, every detail of your outfit is a wonder to behold. And you wear it SO well.

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

Great outfit! I've been layering my sweaters over button downs too and really like the look. I love how your python booties bookend the lighter top.

  • Saretta replied 11 years ago

Love those shoes! But, the cat is your best accessory! ;-)

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Polish and shine with softness == brilliant way to feel and look fab!

I think this would look great with the cuffs folded back over scrunched sleeves. Of course, if you're like me, your sleeves will be filthy by day's end!

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

It is button down challenge day! I love it! The sparkle is fresh with the white and i love the snake print accessories. If i can figure out this pinning thing a bit better... you are pinned!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

It looks great to me (but like Inge this is totally my look too) For me the comfort in having a sweater over my button down reduces my having to worry about button gap and therefore I feel much more free. Yours looks super duper cristp too which really makes it pop.
Pet the cute kitty for me.

I love this look, TS! The button-down with the sparkle and exquisite accessories. The silhouette is beautiful as are all the individual pieces. You're rocking it, girl!

Another fabulous WIW from you! Love the sparkly sweater over that shirt and the lighter shoes peeping from under your pants echo your shirt. lovely. I adore Gains! such a stylish puss!

  • deb replied 11 years ago

This outfit looks great on you. Poor kitty, looks like he is starving to death.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Gain is soooooo grateful for your pats and concern - lol!

Saretta - he is quite the diva cat and is positive that orange goes with everything!

Jeanne - that's an excellent point about not having to worry about button gap - I never thought about that.

Thank all! I must say I'm feeling rather dapper today!

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

I do not own a white cotton blouse and your outfit makes me want to run out and buy one this moment! You look fantastic!

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

If it works? It is PERFECT, Shannon. You look adorable, shining, polished and sophisticated. I love everything about this outfit - and I'm pinning you, too:)

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

Another awesome outfit Shannon! The sparkly navy sweater is very flattering on you. I love the snakeskin booties bookending the white shirt, brilliant.

  • DonnaF replied 11 years ago

The curve of the sweater's neckline combined with the curve of the shirt bottom really give this look that extra *something* as well as what was said above!

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

I know, right! Glad we could help persuade you, Shannon, because these booties really belong in your wardrobe;-)

  • pil replied 11 years ago

This is so handsome and crisp, Shannon. Navy and sparkle - swoon. I would be tempted to retry the white shirt too!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love! Phenomenal pairing the booties with the clutch!! I will never let go of my BB shirt for this reason - you never know when the crisp shirt mood will strike, and it is pretty much always in style. :D

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Well the one thing I was worried about today did NOT happen - I wondered if there would be too high a "fuss factor" with the sweater over the shirt. Not at all! I was totally comfortable. Will definitely be wearing this white shirt again!

Thank you all for the confirmation that this outfit worked - much appreciated :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    KILLER

Your style is on fire this year!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

To me this is an incredibly stylish outfit.. so much so that if it wasn't so hot I would be wanting to copy this tomorrow:)

The simplicity is what gets me! And there is a real ease to this look. It's elegant, sophisticated, yet fun and modern, all at the same time.

    You look fab!
