WIW: A little DIY and forgotten shoes

After my post yesterday about cutting off the attached wrap around self tie on my navy eyelet dress (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....cut-it-off), I went "snip snip" and a whole world of possibilities opened up for different belts for the dress. I popped out to see if I could find any bright coloured belts that tickled my fancy, but nothing sparked my interest so this morning, I added my bright red skinny leather belt that I already had and then I remembered these Clarks Indigo red shoes that I had completely forgotten about. Shame on me! These shoes have an ankle strap so have the potential to be leg shortening but I'm not going to fret about that because I love these shoes and they are extremely comfortable. A swipe of red lipstick and my yellow and cobalt leather faux snakeskin clutch and I'm ready to go.

Over to you...was cutting off the self tie belt a good idea? How are the proportions and colours in this combination? As always, all suggestions/comments welcome.

Dress: Anne Klein (consignment)
Belt: Attitude by Jay Manuel
Shoes: Clarks Indigo
Handbag: Trouve
Watch: Gucci (thrifted)

Shannon I think the strap on the shoes sits low enough to not be leg shortening. I adore this dress on you and the hint of red it just lovely. Great shoes, can't believe you forgot about the poor babies:(. Lovely outfit with beautiful retro vibe.

Another rocking outfit! Love the combination of primary colors - and your lipstick color brings it all together. Nice!

Perfection! I'm so glad you snipped away. You will have a lot of fun with belting this dress. And I love it the way you've styled it. Terrific shoes, and what fab handbag!

Don't you just LOVE Clark's Indigo shoes? I have some on today and they are just heaven.
I like the way you've styled and am glad you freed yourself from the selfbelt!

Tsk tsk for forgetting those beautiful shoes, but you make up for it and then some with today's outfit! Love that you found a solution to your belt issue - the best of both worlds!

Yay! Good decision to snip, it's like a fab blank canvas now, you will be able to use infinite belt and shoe possibilities with this dress. The skinny red belt is great and I love those shoes! I agree that the strap is not placed in a stumpy way.

    Also love the lipstick =)

    Very fab!

I love the red with the navy! The red lipstick, belt and shoes are beautiful touches of color up and down the column of navy!

Great job being the boss of your clothes, Shannon. It turned out great. And the shoes? Pure fabulosity. Mmmm mmmm!

Definitely the right decisions. I would also love to see the dress with a slightly wider belt, but am loving all the red as accent colour here. The shoes look great, and my word, that animal print clutch looks stunning with EVERYTHING!-)

    Thanks ladies!

Inge - I agree that a wider belt would look a little better. I'm kind of eyeing that calf hair animal print one Angie just listed in her blog - do you think that could work with such a "ladylike" dress?

  • Melissa replied 11 years ago

oh, you look pretty! Lovely dress. Perfect fit. Love your choice of accessories. I see others are voting for a wider belt. Dunno, you'll have to let us see. Pretty choice of accessories!

How?! (Could you forget those shoes?)

They're perfect for this gorgeous retro look of course. Brilliant with that pop of red at the waistline, even though like Inge I'd prefer a wider belt on it.

Love that dress & so glad you remembered these shoes.

Sorry, I just saw your question, Shannon. I'm a big fan of that kind of unexpected contrast, so I for one think it's definitely worth a try. It's great belt too, very versatile, it will look great with your new boyfriend jeans as well.
