WIW: A dress for -42

Yep - with the windchill this morning, it's -42 Celcius. So I decided to wear a dress - lol! Fear not about my legs. I have two pairs of tights on so all nice and cozy.

Today's outfit started out actually with my purple tights - just felt like wearing them. So I added a black pair underneath topped with the purple. Then I added my black sheath dress and for a topper, am repeating the purple with my Amber Sun jacket. I love this jacket (waving hi to MaryK jacket twin!). Does this quality as boxy and cropped for the spring trend?

For footwear I chose my ancient, warm and comfy Clarks knee high boots and went with my black handbag and gold mesh bangle for accessories.

I'm happy with this outfit - what do you think? As always all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Amber Sun
Dress: Banana Republic
Tights (both pairs): Hue
Boots: Clarks
Handbag: Danier Leather
Bangle: Michael Kors

Shannon - I just love you in purple. This is such an elegant outfit!! Can't believe you are surviving that level of cold let alone in tights!! You are totally intrepid, but you look fabulous!! Stay warm!!

You look stunning! That purple shade is beautiful on you. The sheath dress, as always, is so fab. You are a brave soul to sport a dress today… even with two pairs of tights. Hope you can stay warm.

Definitely a boxy topper! The saturated jewel tone looks lovely with black and will make you smile inwardly even when you glance outside the window. Its the little things like choosing to wear color that are often the only thing we can control in terms of mood elevation when the weather refuses to co-operate for days on end.

    You look great, Shannon!

Great question about the jacket - I don't know the answer but hope to find out! You look amazing as usual and amazingly chipper for someone so cold!

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

Wow, Shannon! You and your wardrobe can cope with anything the weather throws at you, and you always look fantastic!

I love this black and purple outfit on you. The dress/jacket and tights/boots proportions are all just right. Stay warm today!

    You are brave!!

And you look terrific in the Amber Sun. Stay as cozy as you can!

I love this outfit on you, Shannon. The jacket is boxy but it doesn't look cropped on your small frame. I like that the purple is not high contrast with the black. If tights and jacket were lemon yellow, the outfit could look very different.:)
    Keep warm today.

This shade of purple in the jacket is beautiful color and have to admire how brave you are!!!!!

A lovely vision :) Always beautiful, always!

I think this purple topper works for spring.  I bet it will be lovely paired with yellow as a spring look.  The purple and black is great here for a winter day.  Stay warm!

I love this purple and black on you. Can humans actually survive on -42????

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

The peek of double tights between your skirt and boots looks super cool! I like how you matched the jacket, which I would say is sufficiently boxy for the boxy jacket trend.  Great outfit, Shannon.

    oh Oh OH!  PURPLE!  Fantabulous!

    Wow.

Again, love reading about your process.  I love this look and thanks for the reminder that tights can sometimes be even warmer than trousers!

  • Lucy replied 10 years ago

    Wow, you look gorgeous!
Coming from summertime in Sydney, I simply cannot imagine how cold that is! I really can't ( we went to the beach today!) and to look so great, I am in awe!

It is amazing that we are in the (plus) 40s here! Unheard of... You look great.

I gave away a bunch of down skirts at Sundance - they are the best for keeping legs warm and for getting into a cold car seat.... But I have barely used mine this winter!

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

I swear, I am not exaggerating a bit when I say I literally cannot imagine temperatures like that!  Brrr!!

Anyway... you know I love that jacket!  And the purple tights are so much fun!  Another winner!

  • Alexandra replied 10 years ago

You look great! I like the color combination. But the temperature - ugh!

  • replied 10 years ago

I can't comprehend those temps, but you're showing them whose boss! Love the purple/black combo and proportions look good to me too.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

It's going to be +42C here today - crazy. I agree with the others you look amazing in purple :)

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Go, Shannon!  At some point, we just have to thumb our noses at the cold, don't we?  And what better way to do that than with purple?

You look terrific and work ready.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

    Love the purple on you.

  • Petite Marj replied 10 years ago

While the weather outside is frightful, you look quite delightful!
A great job at defying that cold with a great burst of colour.

  • Kiwibird replied 10 years ago

Stunning!!!  Purple looks great on you Shannon and I love your purple tights!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I cannot imagine what -42 would feel like!! You look so good Shannon. I am not a fan of coloured tights but you are rocking this. Just enough colour and not to OTT. Bet your female colleagues cannot wait to see you each morning to see what your wearing.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

Shannon, this is fab. The neckline of the jacket - open or closed - creates interesting geometry with the dress. The colours look fantastic on you.

Like Caro, I'm not only on the other side of the world from you but also at the other side of the thermometer. It's harsh and hard here and I imagine it is likewise for you.
Which makes it especially comforting to be able to flaunt a bit of style.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

    What Caro said!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

That is way too cool ... I think I like the jacket closed more :)

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Shannon, Shannon, Shannon... you cannot tell me two pairs of tights covers -42 C. I've been wearing two pairs of tights for 0 C.

    Hehe.
