Which watch?

Since I bought my rose gold/black Fossil watch in the summer, I have come to love wearing a bold watch and find I'm wearing bracelets less and less and turning to my watch as my "arm candy".

I have some "fun money" left from Christmas and have decided I would like to add another watch. I currently have in my watch collection:

  • Rose gold/black
  • silver with white face
  • black leather strap with silver/white face
My thrifted gold one isn't thrilling me much these days so I'm wanting to replace it with either gold or a gold/silver combination.

I have narrowed it down to either this Fossil gold with tortoise face or gold/silver Michael Kors twist watch (an Angie choice in 2013). Price wise these are both in my budget.

Which one speaks to you in terms of working more with my style? Thanks in advance for your fab advice :)

    I vote for #2.
It can take the place of a bracelet easily.

  • replied 10 years ago

I personally love 1, but I agree with Deb that 2 is more like jewellery.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

    I vote #1.

  • Tina replied 10 years ago

    I vote #1.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I like them both, but am leaning towards #1.  However, #2 is very pretty also, and could be worn with both gold and silver so would be extra versatile.

I vote #2, (Though I too think #1 is beautiful and see why you've picked it!) but I'm not a very impartial voter, as I have #2 also and love, love, love it! Seriously love it.  And I didn't even realize it had been an Angie pick?!  Like you, I've slowly gotten away from bracelets, and I love the interest the links provide and the overall bold size, especially since being tall, it seems to "fit" my stature.  Plus, being silver and gold, it goes with everything, including my wedding bands, and I can mix and match virtually any earrings or necklaces, though I tend towards the very sparse/minimal there too.   And I adore bracelet-style bands, especially for comfort in fluctuating temps.

I am going to vote #2 because I think it is the best choice for your wardrobe, plus I love a bracelet link watch.

I have a very pretty MK tortoise watch with a gold face. It's beautiful but to me it is "brown" and I don't wear brown so it doesn't get a lot of use. The two tone works with both warm and cool shades.

I like #1 but I am partial to Fossil watches.  The Michael Kors watch has a white face which might be too similar to the one you already own?  Plus, Fossil makes Michael Kors watches so you are paying a premium for the Michael Kors brand, which is totally fine if you like the design.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ooh, #1! I think since it is solid gold it will be more different from your others and work better when you want a gold accent.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

#1. You already have two watches with white face. It is very cool and I think it will work very well with your modern classic style.

  • modgrl replied 10 years ago

You seem more like a graphic black and white kind of girl. I don't see you wearing too many browns or earth tones. I would vote for #2.

  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago

I love them both.  I like the fresh white face and jewelry-like look of the band in #2. I also love the chunky boldness of #1, but how would the brown work with your wardrobe?

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

that is a tough choice - can I vote both? teehee.
If I had to choose I would have to pick 1 for several reasons:
    1. I do like Fossil watches.
    2. It has a edgier feel to me.
    3. I rcvd a Eco watch for xmas that looks very similar!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

#1. Although you don't wear brown really. How about a gold watch with a black face?

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

    I'm loving this one here:

Although that one might be too similar to what you already have? I'm not remembering them exactly.

  • Raisin replied 10 years ago

I think #1 looks more modern and I personally prefer that one.

  • carter replied 10 years ago

#1 is totally gorgeous! I wear brown with black, navy, gray, everything.

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

They are both great watches.  #1 is more streamlined/masculine while #2 is more feminine (bracelet-y).  Personally, I like #1, but you might have other watches like it.  If you're look for some variety and more of an arm candy/bracelet function for your watch, maybe #2 is the best bet.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Both watches are beautiful. I vote 1 or one with a black face as the most different from your others. I've admired Angie's when she's worn it with her outfits.
    This one is on sale

    I really like Angie's idea.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

#2, but I agree that a gold with a black face might be even closer to your ideal style.  Both of these are stunners!

  • Stuti replied 10 years ago

Love #2. I have it and wear it a lot.
The face band is gold and not silver.
It's def like jewelry make statement of its own and no need to see if purse has silver hardware and shoes has gold.
    Win win in my eyes

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

You're not going to believe that I've been thinking about this for five minutes and still can't decide.  They are both gorgeous.  I love the tortoise face with the gold metal, and agree with Carter that it would look good with black and other colors.  On the other hand, the design of the Michael Kors watch is somewhat unique and more modern.  I think I just talked myself into watch #2.

  • gryffin replied 10 years ago

Wow, Shannon, this is giving me a headache!!  They are both beautiful.  I think #1 is bolder and tortoise is kind of neutral and it's a lot of visual umph!!  But #2 is more bracelet like and would work with both metals which means it is more versatile.  I also like the idea of a gold watch with a black face....hence my headache!!  So back to you!!  What is calling to you!!  You have gorgeous taste, what is pulling at your heartstrings and which would be most useful?

  • Jewell replied 10 years ago

Of the two pictured, my vote goes to #1. The tortoise face is a very "Shannon-type detail" to me.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

I like them both :) but #1 for you!

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I like them both. I think it depends what kind of "vibe" you want. I think #1 is more utilitarian and practical, while #2 is more feminine and tastefully glitzy.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

These are both beautiful. I vote #1 or a gold one with a black face because of what modgirl and Angie said.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

    I love #1!

  • dlb1960 replied 10 years ago

    #1 for sure

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon can I say that I am not sure of either of these? Both are nice but they just don't grab me and say "Shannon". I think I might just keep looking to be sure.

  • replied 10 years ago

    Another vote for #1

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Sorry I'm so late popping back in. Just not enough hours in the day lately you know!

Thanks so much for your insights and wisdom ladies but guess what? I've decided not to get another watch at all but instead tuck a few more dollars away and get new glasses next month after my eye exam. I'm struggling with my vision these days so know that my prescription is changing again which means new specs are on the horizon.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

That's a good plan! Up to date specs are important. I'm getting new lenses tomorrow, but I'm keeping my frames (didn't find ones that were as nice).

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Looking forward to the spec hunt!
