What I've been up to - purchases and question

Well I'm starting to re-enter my life after a family crisis occurred (very private so won't be sharing details). But we're all starting to heal and it's time to get on with things.

My Whole30 experiment (posted about in Off Topics) went incredibly well and as a result, I've dropped some pounds and inches so am fitting nicely into some clothes I had actually tucked away for being too small. A lovely feeling I must admit.

I've purchased some EF pieces from my eBay seller which are en route to me. All can be returned should they not fit or be what I had hoped. And yes...they are all black despite my comment about wanting to add more white into my wardrobe for summer. Black just works so seamlessly with my existing wardrobe and I adore it. I'll be pairing the items with lighter colors as well. My purchases include:

#1 - an asymmetrical sleeveless tunic to wear with my VC tube skirts and cropped slim trousers

#2 - a sleeveless crepe/linen blend vest to wear over structured dresses, VC tube skirts and cropped slim trousers

#3/4 - a linen draped back cardigan with mother of pearl buttons. A great layering piece over a tank

I would also love your opinion on the EF linen dress in pics #5 and 6. It's a linen that is washed to look like denim. I adore linen in the summer and long ago made peace with the crease. It has a hi-lo hemline and is made to be worn over skinnies, cropped pants, tube skirts or Bermuda shorts (or on its own depending on how short that front section is on me). I've also seen pictures of it open like a jacket over a sheath dress...just lovely. However I'm wondering if the shape works with a petite apple - it is petite sized by the way. It is non returnable (different seller) so I would want to be pretty sure. The seller has provided fabulous measurements which do work for me but it's the shape I'm wanting to check with y'all. Has anyone seen this dress IRL?

Well that's things...now off to read about a bazillion posts to try and catch up. Missed you all :)

P.S. Been doing some trying on of sandals/shoes with no luck so far. Feet are fussier by the day...

Welcome back, Shannon!  You were very missed.

Nice to see you back here, Shannon!  I am sorry to hear about the family crisis but glad it is behind you.  I love your new EF pieces, they are all fabulous.   The dress you are considering is too tricky for me to comment on without seeing it on.  I guess for me it would boil down to if you are wiling to risk it depending on how much the seller is asking.  I hate non-returnable policies.

I'm sorry for all the stress. Welcome back, missed seeing you!

YAY. WELCOME BACK. MISSED YOU. WOOOHOOOOO.

Great to hear the good news and much love to you.

p.s. The EF dress has lots of potential.

Nice to see you back, Shannon.  The tank and sweater are no-brainers - love that draped back on the sweater - but I'm with Tanya in saying that dress is a tricky one to imagine on.  Non-returnable is a pretty big gamble considering EF prices, no?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

Thanks for the warm welcome back ladies :) I feel like I'm coming out of the fog and stepping into the sun.

Tanya/Lisa - agree the dress could be tricky. And even though it's not full EF retail prices, it's still not cheap.

Angie - the dress has potential you say? I would love to hear your thoughts on style suggestions and what you see could work and what might not work - if you happen to pop back in.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Blast. I just read that the dress is non-returnable. I intensely dislike being put in a position like that online unless I know how the item fits. I think it's too risky, Shannon. Can you find a returnable option?

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Great to see you, Shannon! I have missed you. So sorry about the family crisis but I am glad you are feeling a bit better.

I love the new pieces, particularly the tank. Gorgeous!

As for the dress, if it is nonreturnable I think it is too big a risk. Having been burned by a couple of recent on line buys I am extra cautious....

Welcome back! Fitting into favourites is a nice feeling, isn't it?

It's good to see you again! I am so sorry to hear about the family crisis.

I like #1-4 a lot, but the dress in #5 is not my favorite - it's the length of the back hem and the fact that it's all black. It might work for you, though - but I think the fact that it's non-returnable might make it too risky.

Good to see you again, Shannon! I'm sorry to hear about your family troubles but I'm glad to hear that the worst seems to be behind you.

I really like the new pieces.  The cardigan especially!  I'm not normally a fan of classic cardis but I love that this one looks classic from the front but funky from the back.

So, the dress.  My first impression is that I love it and I would want to wear it (over cropped, rolled pants especially).  However, on second thought, I think that means that I think it might work for me, and not necessarily for you?   Specifically I think it might be a look that one needs proportionally long legs (as a short person) to pull off.  I'm not sure.  If it was returnable I'd say sure, try it.

    Welcome back.

The wisdom of YLF never fails me :)

You are right about the dress of course - the no return policy is too risky for this purchase. I do love the dress though (or at least one like it) so will continue to troll around eBay and see if I can find one that's returnable. It's no longer available in stores - I suspect it's last year's offering.

Karie - just to clarify, the dress is actually denim blue not black. But I hear ya!

Thanks for keeping it real ladies!

Love the cardigan. Wait for a returnable dress. Sending rays of continued healing.

Good to "see" you. Glad you are feeling better. You have been missed.

Looking forward to seeing your new stuff when it arrives.

Missed you. Glad things are looking up :)

  • Gail replied 8 years ago

Welcome back. I like the dress but I am afraid it might be to voluminous, need to see it on :((

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Shannon! Looking forward to seeing your new stuff! And sorry to hear of your troubles - glad you are coming out of the fog.

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

So glad to see you back...so sorry you've been having a difficult time. Looking forward to seeing the new pieces on your person..I'm afraid of a no return policy...that would be a deal breaker unless I absolutely knew the exact fit to expect...good luck with everything!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

I love your finds, Shannon, especially the first 2. If the assymetrical tank is linen, we may be tank twins.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Missed you Shannon. I hope things have calmed down and good for you for sticking to whole 30 through it all. Anyway, great picks but I think the dress looks like a risky fit - even in petite a dress like that would have to land at the right place on your waist, and for me sleeves like that either work or don't. Unless you have a quick way to make your money back or a friend who would love it, I would hesitate.

  • deb replied 8 years ago

Hey Shannon, good to see you. My favorite of the items posted is the dress. I imagine it will wash and soften nicely, as linen does.

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Welcome back, Shannon, hope you're  all doing better now. I'm with you with the love of black, and can't wait to see those EF lovelies! I especially loved the idea of the linen hi-low shirt dress(even before reading it's actually not a purchase yet!). Don't be afraid of creases, linen has to have them!:-)

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

    Welcome back...sending you peaceful thoughts...

Love all of the EF pieces (of course). I saw that dress (or a version of it) last year, and it was too sheer to wear without other pieces underneath. In the end I didn't buy because I thought. for me, it just wouldn't get enough wear as I'm in and out of my car all day long, and the back would end up being a wrinkled mess in a short amount of time.

  • Ledonna N. replied 8 years ago

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back....to the forum. All the pieces are lovely lucky you I can't wait for the try on. That dress looks very versatile for spring/summer.

  • abc replied 8 years ago

    Welcome back!

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Welcome back Shannon... I missed you!  Sorry to hear you had some family issues.

I love all of your choices, but agree with the masses on the danger of no returns.  Unless of course you want to turn into an ebay seller....  :)

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

Missed your smile and fabulous fashion, Shannon.  I hope that this summer gives you time in your garden, and time to relax with friends.  To find quiet joy after a time of trial.

I adore that dress!  I would not purchase this one, due to the rigid policy on returns.  My little knowledge of EF makes me suspect their may be a similar item in her current line.
