Styling the Ara's, a decision made & a quick question

I had a few moments to put together two quick looks with the Ara Tala booties I received yesterday (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ck-booties).

First of all, I tried them with jeans and my one pair of work trousers (I need more, I know) and there is no problem with the pants catching in the V at the front of the boot. Plus the heel height is perfect. Loved the look of the sleek patent paired with my Cameron BF's in particular.

Then I tried them with both patterned and opaque hose and two different pencil skirts.

Vix - you're genius! The hose made all the difference. LOVE the look of the booties with these two outfits. Coupled with the comfort factor and ease with trousers, an easy decision has been made. Definitely KEEPING!!!

I do have one other question and a slight confession about the Rachel Roy skirt in pics 3/4. I purchased this skirt at last year's NAS and never wore it. It was a wee bit snug when I first got it and then I gained more weight and it didn't fit. So back in June I found one size larger on eBay at a ridiculously low price and snagged it (that's the one here) to wear come fall. I'm still as much in love with this skirt as when Angie first showed it to us. But this size is now bordering on a bit big and the size smaller is just a bit too snug for comfort. I feel like this size in the pictures is a bit wide - is it worth tapering or should I just wear it as is until the size smaller fits? Does it look horrible?

Thanks for listening :)

Oooh! So happy you are keeping them. And let me tell you, even though I already have black booties (my chelsea boots) I am SERIOUSLY tempted by these as well. Hmmmm.

What fantastic outfits these are. Both of them just hit it out of the ballpark. The CM jacket and the Rachel Roy skirt are amazing with your hair.

I agree that the skirt looks a bit wide/ big. I don't know if it is worth tapering or possible to taper. But you could investigate.

You look great in the booties and waving at my skirt twin! I think you should just wear it until the smaller size fits. It doesn't sound like your size is that stable that it's worth tailoring for half a size--it would be different if you were at a stable weight. I think you look great!

That is such a great skirt. I would wear it until the size down works. You are in transition now, and while you are fluctuating isn't a good time to tailor to exact fit. It really seems like it is just half a size off.

I am so thrilled you are keeping the booties:)

Regarding the skirt.  My seamstress would only charge about $15.00 to taper the side seams... if your lady is not too pricey, I would do it.  You are very particular and fit is important to you.  If you don't alter it, you may find that you just don't enjoy, or wear the skirt and that would be a shame.

I really like the look of the booties with the opaque tights.  I wouldn't worry about the skirt as your size is fluctuating right now.

Ooh, fab. So glad you are keeping. I love how you have styled them here.

Re: the skirt. I'm not sure how well tapering would work because I don't think you can taper the front panel, so it'll always give the appearance of being straight. However, as per Suz's thread the other day, you could shorten it, in which case the wider bottom would be fine.

Thanks for the booties validation. I'm really happy with them now that I've given them a chance. Yet another reminder that you really need to style an item before making a final decision.

I think I should try on the smaller size of the skirt again and see where I'm at with fit. If I'm still a ways off I'm going to have this one taken in a bit. I want to wear one of them come September and alterations would be money well spent. I agree Deborah that I probably wouldn't wear the skirt if I didn't feel good in it.

Cross posted with you Diana - great idea!

I love the booties, and I'm so glad you're keeping them. I would taper the skirt, I think you'll get more wear out of it if the fit is perfect.

    What Karie said :)

Sweet!  I am so glad that you kept them. The long leg line with the black hose makes all the difference, doesn't it?

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Wow! The booties and the first outfit are fabulous. Actually I love the second outfit also. What a great skirt! I would check with Wonder Woman and see what miracles she can perform to tinker with the fit so you will get maximum enjoyment out of it!

Totally with Deborah on the skirt. I had an inkling from Vix's post that the hose would be magic--so happy you hit jackpot on this hunt!

But most impressive of all is how *extra* awesome these B&W prints look with your hair to bookend their entire range of gradations. ::sigh:: :-)

So glad you are keeping those booties - I just think they are perfect for you - and they look great the way that you have styled them.  Yes - I think that the skirt looks too big for you - I would investigate the possibility of getting it taken in.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Well I looked over the Rachel Roy tree print skirt and I'm not sure it can be taken in or tapered as there are no official side seams. There is the main seam in the middle of the back where the zipper runs and then there are two seams on either side of the printed panel in the front. I'll still go and ask Wonder Woman about it but I'm not sure alterations are possible.

On the bright side however the smaller size does up quite comfortably now and I'm only about 5 pounds away from it fitting perfectly. Now if I just work a little harder...

Yowza, Shannon!  Those booties are a slam dunk!  Glad you found the time to play in your closet.

I think you're right that the tapering would be difficult with the seaming in the skirt.  Go ahead and wear it a few times before you switch it out for the smaller size.

I don't know what size this RR skirt is, but I might be interested in you're going to consign it!
