K/R Fur Vest #2 and Lord & Taylor pants

...ok, but let me explain...after yesterday's disaster with the "gorilla" vest, I really thought the fur vest trend was NOT for me. i went off to my local Gap and returned the furry beasts and had to walk back to my car through The Bay. I saw this Jeanne Bekker fur vest on the first rack into The Bay and literally gasped out loud. It's sleek, has some sheen, is a very dark espresso brown, is elegant, fits very well and best of all - I don't think I resemble a single zoo animal! The SA said it looked fantastic on me, which I took with a grain of salt but then another female shopper wearing the most stunning navy sweater dress said "if you don't buy that vest right away, you're crazy". So it came home with me.

Here are two quick stylings representative of a couple of ways I would wear the vest - with skinnies and boots, and over dresses. This is not an inexpensive item so want to be sure. BTW - it got the thumbs up for the entire family. Hubby in particular said it looked fab.

The trousers are Lord & Taylor simple black knit blend. There are no front or side pockets and they zip up the side. There are two back welt pockets. I love the simple clean look of these and how they actually sit fairly low on me. They are incredibly comfortable. I know black doesn't photograph well but I hope you can get an idea of fit. To me the fit is pretty much perfect. I know they aren't quite cigarette trousers but I do like them. My question is regarding the length - they are actually a shorter length trouser, as seems to be the trend in many brands. If I keep them, do I leave the length as is or do I take down the inch hem allowance and make them a wee bit longer? and is the width of the leg ok? should I have Wonder Woman taper the trousers a bit more to make them a true cigarette trouser?

Ok - up to you ladies: keep or return on the vest and the trousers?

BTW the blouse is a fab silk blouse I picked up at Banana Republic for next to a song. It feels divine against the skin, is a petite and a lovely cream colour with little gold keys on it.

If you don't keep that vest, you're crazy! ;) LOVE IT!! So fab!!

Can't see the pants that well but they look good from what I can see! And that blouse is too, too fab!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

The blouse reminded me of your bee blouse MaryK - that's what made me fall in love with it!

Thanks Ceit - I'm kinda digging this vest I gotta say!

Don't you hate how pitiful black pants photograph?

  • replied 11 years ago

Yes! I was trying to photograph those Ricki's ones for you and they just look like a featureless black blob!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Bee blouse, key blouse.....I'd call them both SQUEEEE blouse! That is so pretty! And the pants look great!

As for the vest, that animal is an entirely different species than the one you showed us yesterday! Give it a good pet for me, will you? It looks divine.

By the way, I love the shopping ups and downs. Sharing them makes them lighter.

  • celia replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I have seen thos vest at the Bay and it is beautiful(this might be biased because my vest is much like that one also).
The blouse is also beautiful and I think you would wear it a lot.
I cannot tell about the pants because of the photo but it looks good as far as I can see.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Vest is great! Blouse is good too. I think the pants look good as well.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    All KILLER!

Just love the new vest :)

  • Susie replied 11 years ago

Oh you must keep that vest! It is gorgeous and terrific on you!

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

    Beautiful vest! I say keep!

The pants look good at well, and I would keep them the length they are. Perfect for flats. If you wear a lot of heels, maybe then consider altering them.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Squeeee!!!!

Angie - do you think I should alter the length of the trousers at all or just leave them be?

  • K. Period. replied 11 years ago

I knew it! See! There is a fur vest out there and yours found you! You look fantastic, Shannon. I'm so happy to see this. Love the blouse and the trousers look fantastic too. I think that since the trousers are tapered and they already have a bit of a slouch at the bottom, they are perfect lengthwise. Tapered trousers always sit a little higher than looser trousers. If Angie didn't pick up on a length issue and voted them killer, I think you are ready to go as is. Yay!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

ooooh! You know I have a soft spot for hem scrunch and slouch on trousers. I vote take them down and maybe taper them at the hems as well. They won't slouch at the hems unless they are tapered sufficiently.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon the vest is great! This one looks more luxurious and sophisticated. To my eye this is a more grown up look. The pants look perfect. Really nice leg line. I also like scrunch on mine so if there is a hem to let down that would be great. Blouse...gorgeous! It has that lovely retro vibe that suits you so well.

  • Krista replied 11 years ago

Wow! This vest is awesome and much much better than the other one! I like the pants too - I agree with Angie on the tapering and scrunching. Great finds, Shannon!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks everyone - tags are off all of it!

Angie - I will take the trousers to Wonder Woman. There's a good inch that can be let down on the hem and I'll get her to taper them at the hem/ankle as well. This will almost make them a slouchy trouser - which I'm thrilled about!

  • jen replied 11 years ago

    Fab :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Vest love! Keep the pants, would you wear them with flats? If not you could taper & let them down.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Just adding my voice to the choir! The shorter fur and the brown make ALL the difference. Woohoo, vest! Love the pants, too. Angie has you well taken care of with those. :)

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Ditto what Rae just said! Love the vest and the fit of the trousers on you.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

You have the most amazing shopping guardian angel working for you Shannon! Fab all around.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

You have the best shopping mojo. Obviously you were meant to have a fur vest!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Amazing story and fab vest! This is definitely a keeper. I agree with Angie (not that her vote needs a second) about tapering the trousers. They look great as is, but I think they'll look even more modern when wonder woman has her way with them.

  • Echo replied 11 years ago

What a huge difference between your sleek, beautiful new vest and gorilla vest! You definitely found a winner! Trousers look great, too. Congrats on a super shopping trip!

  • RunningSue replied 11 years ago

Everything looks great, especially your smile, it shows how you are owning the outfit and wearing it with confidence. Great job, I hope we all are as lucky as you.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

I missed the gorilla vest ;-) but this one IS fab! I love having a stylish vest to wear in fall and spring! (I even keep a down one handy in the house for when I feel chilled 'to the bone')

You key blouse and new trousers are also fab and look very elegant :-)

    Wonderful shopping skills, Shannon!
