EF Dark Tulip Reveal (ETA question added at bottom)

So most of you know I'm completely enamoured with Eileen Fisher clothing - and my new items in her Dark Tulip colour have increased my love even more so.

Before you look at the pics know that I'm wearing grey tights as they are the only pair I have at the moment (since it's summer) - they are not the best with these outfits but hopefully you can get the idea.

As Joy mentioned when she tried this skirt, it is on the shorter side. But I'm very comfortable with this length on my short legs when paired with tights.

These are just a couple of quick ideas to basically show off the new Dark Tulip items - which include the tank, asymmetrical cardigan and merino wool skirt. I can think of all sorts of other items in my wardrobe that will work with these (i.e. cardigan with my charcoal waxed skinnies, cardigan with the faux wrap drapey black trousers, skirt with a simple black sweater, etc.). I also have the silk hi-lo dropped shoulder blouse in Dark Tulip on its way to me.

To say I'm pleased with these items is a complete understatement. I'm thrilled with the colour, fit and quality of each item. Although these items are from EF Fall 2013, I believe they are still very current and all had the new price tags attached. This is not a Keep/Return thread as I'm tickled with these purchases but all are returnable if you see something glaringly wrong.

P.S. I think my SE red booties work with this colour - would you agree?

You look deliriously happy in these, Shannon. And what a stunning colour for you. I am amazed at how well it mixes with some of your other items. With the purply/ burgundy jacket for instance, and with the blush. I know it will look equally great with other pieces that you own.

I do think a tonal tight would work better for the skirt outfits and hope it won't be too difficult to find the appropriate tights.

The tank actually looks more true red -- more like the SE booties. But that might be a trick of the monitor, or be a purposive choice by EF to make it tonal vs. identical in outfits.

I love the dark red paired with the charcoal (though unintentional), and different textures! I think this color is fabulous on you and will bring you endless delight through the fall.

  • Robidi replied 9 years ago

The Dark Tulip is lovely on you :)

  • N-Marie replied 9 years ago

The fit and color are both fantastic- what a great purchase!

I do have a question for the collective YLF wisdom: in order to feel comfortable wearing this skirt with nude hose (in order to expand the versatility) I would want it a couple if inches longer. Once before I had Wonder Woman add a 4 inch wide elastic band onto the waist of a pull on skirt (which this is) so that the original waist of the skirt sat on my high hip instead and gave me more length on the skirt. Because the skirt is essentially just a tube it didn't change the overall shape of the skirt at all. Do you think this would be a good idea for this skirt? I'm never going to tuck into it anyway.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Thanks for your feedback Suz - I hear you in the tights color. These just happened to be all I had available. The stock photo of the skirt with the dark tulip sweater actually showed it with dark charcoal tights and black ankle boots. That might work too.

  • Laura (rhubarbgirl) replied 9 years ago

I like the color on you very much. I do think the skirt is a bit short (not scandalously or anything, i just like the proportions better with the other skirt you are wearing in the pics) and I think the idea of adding an elastic band so that you can wear it without tights or with hose is a good one.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    WOW. Killer all round.

You are absolutely rocking it in #4, 5, 6 and 8, Shannon. Taking it to a new level. You were made to wear shades of dark red, you gorgeous stylish creature. xo

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Oh, yes. And your happiness here is bouncing off my computer screen. LOVE THAT.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 9 years ago

I'm really loving that color on you, and of course you've done a great mix into outfits. It's so satisfying to know you've not only picked flattering items but also that they work well with your existing wardrobe.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

These outfits are just stunning, Shannon. Love, love your new dark tulip items! That gray high-low open knit sweater is gorgeous on you, too, and your new laceup boots! I have the high-low hem silk blouse, high-low pullover sweater and a plaid scarf from that 2013 EF tulip group, and I love them to death, too. I adore the skirt on you (wish I had love it as much on me), and yes, your red booties go beautifully with the new finds. I wear my EF things with some Eddie Bauer wine-colored corduroys. It's amazing how nicely the shades of red can blend together. I'm with you, this color makes me super happy, and I'm so glad to break it out again this year!

What a great shape that skirt gives you!  And I really like the fact that the tank is a different tone of red. Makes it all more interesting.    Angie is right, you really are made for this colour - and you already have the glasses and makeup nailed down- way to go!    Only one observation - and I'm not sure whether it's anything or not, but my eye much prefers the ensembles with a darker boot.  Of the two red boot outfits - I think the second one works best. I think it has to do with the open knit cardi .....

Anyways - you are so lucky to have found this resource - who cares what season it's from!  The colours and fit are on trend and again make you look beautiful and radiant!  You rock  xo

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Shannon, I actually love it with the grey, too -- I just think (probably) with darker booties more and maybe with grey or black elsewhere in the outfit.

It wouldn't hurt to ask WonderWoman about adding that elastic. If it will give you more versatility (and comfort) then why not?

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 9 years ago

Great pieces Shannon.  I agree with Lisa and Suz thought that the darker bootie works better.  I think if you want to wear the red booties, it might be better if you have a neutral skirt or top and only two reds.
    Other than that, perfection.

  • misapb replied 9 years ago

The EF outfits clearly love you as much as you love them!  I think I would prefer the red booties as a pop of color in an all black/grey outfit rather than with other reds (feels a bit too match-y maybe?).  I would love to see the cardigan open for #8.  And I really like the grey tights.  Adding some elastic at the top of the skirt would give you a few inches without compromising the fit (although my need to see a side profile to truly know.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

I love love love this on you but would probably add the elastic to add length to the skirt. Can you pull it down on your hips to get a photo of how it might look? Have you tried this with knee high boots to see how those proportions work?

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

All lovely, both together and separately!

I like how well the dark red goes with the charcoal tights too, but do agree that I like the red boots better in the outfit with the other cardi than with all three of the new pieces at once.

  • Susie replied 9 years ago

Oh the skirt is gorgeous! I love it with gray as well as with the blush. I think it's worth a try to add the elastic for additional length though I think the length is nice with tights.

I too have the silk shirt on its way to me! Plus I also am trying the jeans. I'm hoping to wear them together.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Shannon, I am not sure I have the words! I am you g to say "stunning" but that doesn't fully convey my thoughts:). That colour is to die for on you. The peices particularly worn together are a visual feast. The tone on tone is just beautiful.

Yes do get Wonder Woman to do her thing with the skirt if that will give more versatility. I think I might prefer the general look with nude hose (you could layer a couple of pairs for warmth.,). Or, I am wondering about a nice fine knit legging on the red...does EF do those?

The colori works for you, the garments fit and look amazing and I likes take variations in the tones.

Ok, and finally seeing these on you....I want to try that red. I could see myself wearing the tonal look as I wear my black, heavens you could be responsible for a colour entering my wardrobe! :)

    Keep everything, totally fab.

Wow.  You look absolutely amazing.  Your style evolution has been exceptional.  I have learned so much from you.

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

Wow!  These colors are so fab on you!  And I am loving your "model" poses!  I think everything is a keep.  I do think the skirt might be nice a little longer.  It's not bad as is but I think the longer skirt suits you even better.

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

WOW!!! #4, 5, 6 & 8 are my favourites too. Great idea for the skirt :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

I agree you should ask Wonder Woman about adding elastic to the skirt, so you'll be more comfortable wearing it all the ways you want to! And thanks for the idea--I might be able to use it sometime.

  • replied 9 years ago

    1. OMG, what a seriously gorgeous color on you. Espesh with those boots and specs!
    2.  EF loves your body. I can see why you love her back.
    3.  The grey tights are a lovely soft shade with your hair.

I'm really happy for you Shannon. All theses pieces look great, and why not take the skirt in to see if it can be lengthened. It might me nice to have the extra length (and warmth, come winter) even though it's just fine as it is.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Yes. The colour of the booties work beautifully. xo

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Absolutely gorgeous! What is that leather jacket - it is so perfect with the new pieces! Let's just say it is a good thing one can't swipe clothes through the internet or you might have found your entire wardrobe had just disappeared!

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

Oh my, the outfit with the pink moto is TDF! I absolutely love, love, love it! Promise me you'll wear it on Valentine's Day next year. :)

Fab outfits all around. I think that in pics 2 and 3, though, maybe the sparkliness of the cardi competes with the textures and color of the Red Tulip items? I feel like the dark red is kind of a statement color here, and the cardi also seems like a statement piece. But I am someone whose brain gets overloaded even with pattern mixing, ha ha, so take that for what it's worth.

Wow! This color is absolutely stunner on you! And it looks festive ^_^! Fantastic buys!

  • Missey replied 9 years ago

Your smile says it all and is the perfect topper!  This deep shade of red is so flattering on you an the outfits you have put together are over the top gorgeous!

  • Lantana replied 9 years ago

Whoo hoo! Fabulous all round and you look like the cat that's got the cream.
Shannon I responded to an old thread of yours not realising it had been bumped from a year ago. I realised after I had posted my response, still relevant BTW.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I would ask WW about adding the elastic - it's a beautiful skirt and if you would get more wear out of it if it were longer, I'd give it a try. However, I tend to wear my shorter skirts with tights, not my longer ones - you might want to try it a little longer and see if you still like it with tights.

    Gorgeous color!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Wow! Thank you all so much for your positive and helpful comments.

Angie - you sure know how to make a girl feel good :)

Firecracker - I had forgotten you had purchased some Dark Tulip pieces. How lovely to copy you :) I'm on the hunt for the hi- lo pullover now to complete my "set". And since seeing your comment, dug out my burgundy skinnies and they look fab with this color. Thanks for the inspiration.

Deborah - you humble me with your comments. I think you would look fab in this rich dark red color. I do see how a tonal dark red outfit would work the same way as an all black outfit. I would feel so smug in helping to introduce a color into your wardrobe :)

Karie - good point about whether I would be comfortable wearing a longer version of the skirt with tights. I will need to give this some thought.

And I definitely see what many of you have mentioned about the darker boots working better when wearing more than one item in the red. Thank you for pointing that out.

Thanks again for your valuable feedback everyone.
