Dark Red

I couldn't be more excited about dark red for fall/winter. It is one of my all time favorite colors and it works well in my wardrobe. I had indicated in a previous post that my colors in my fall/winter wardrobe this year will be black, grey, navy, white and dark red/plum.

I have my burgundy skinnies from last year (or is that the year before???) which are a pseudo substitute for dark red I guess, but would love to add some actual dark red pieces to my wardrobe.

I did go ahead and order the EF dark tulip (her color name for dark red) dress from my fave eBay seller. Fingers crossed it works (pic #1).

I also found my favorite EF drape front dress in dark tulip - I guess "triplicating" my favorite style of dress would be too much? (pic #2)

I also absolutely LOVE the entire EF outfit in pic #3 - although I'm really worried about that poor model's neck! Although these pieces are from last fall, I think they are still current and stylish for this fall. Please correct me if I'm wrong?

And lastly, check out these deliciously gorgeous Doc Martens dark red patent oxfords. These make me swoon! The official Docs description states them as a "less chunky, slimmer profile women's oxford". These may be the oxford I buy this fall - my feet absolutely LOVE Docs.

Some food for thought anyway - let me know what you think about any or all of these, good or bad.

You were MADE for this shade of red, Shannon. In lipstick too. I vote yay on everything accept the Docs. I have a feeling you'll want something a little more feminine for flat oxfords.

This is color is great for our skin tones.  As for the Docs, I'm with Angie on this. (For me - I guess I wore that style to death so not keen on them but if you like it, go for it).

Wow, nr 3 is quite an inspiration! Having 2 layers on top it's much more richer than only one, with the skirt in the same shade, and legs all black, OMG I love it! I think the color will be great on you, so go ahead with the dres I say, even if multiplicated:-)

Wow - I can't wait to see how that dress works out for you. Red looks amazing on you and works so well with your wardrobe! I'm excited for you :)

Yes to dark red!  Love the new EF!   Can't wait to see new fall outfits start to emerge!

I saw some dark red sleeved EF dresses at our Rack and thought of you. I used to wear this color well when it brought out the red tones in my brown hair but it does nothing for me now :( I see of reason why you can't triplicate your favorite dress. The only thing that might be a problem is having 2 dresses the same color, especially if you also get the skirt/sweater/shirt. I loved that skirt last year, especially in grey for my wardrobe. I was ready to buy it full price but it was just too short. I hope it works for you. I love that whole outfit too.

Ooh - I love everything, and want the docs for myself :)

I love all of these!  I can't wait to see that sweater dress in action. I'm contemplating whether I can do similar layers to #3.  Maybe a silky blouse under my black crocheted sweater?  Something to think about.

Lots of gorgeous pieces here Shannon, I love everything, including the Docs, but I see Angie's point. I love this dark red too, and am looking forward to adding some pieces myself.

Angie - I suspect you're right about the Docs so off the list they go. Glad you like the other items though. It's so exciting when you see things in your favorite color.

DC - I can so see you in this color too. Goes great with our dark hair and pale skin doesn't it? Will you be sporting any dark red this fall?

Joy - the length of the skirt is doubtful for me as well. I measured it against my black pencil skirt from my skirt suit and it is one inch shorter. I definitely wouldn't wear it with nude hose as I think it would just read too short on me. Here's hoping it works with opaque tights, which I always feel more covered with.

I see we have lots of dark red lovers here - Amy - those Docs would rock on you!

    UPDATE:
So here's the scoop - if the long sleeved EF dress doesn't fit, I will probably order the drape front dress. As Joy mentions, it would be redundant to have two dresses in this color, even if the styles are different.

I have also gone ahead and ordered the skirt, a cardigan and a tank in the dark tulip (all EF) so that I can do some mixing and matching with other items in my wardrobe. If these items fit, they are all within my budget and will pretty much round out my fall/winter wardrobe.

I know I had committed to not purchasing anything further for fall/winter until what I had doesn't fit. But in reality, the weight isn't coming off that quickly :( and I need a few pieces infused into my fall wardrobe to excite me about the cooler weather arriving. I have tried to choose shapes and fabrications carefully so that they work for a bit - whatever my body decides to do.

    Great plan, Shannon!

Firecracker has some of those pieces from the 3rd image -- she got them at last year's NAS and wears them frequently. So check out her posts.

I love the idea of triplicating your fave dress if the first one isn't as great on you.

I hope the dresses work out for you. This dark red is brilliant for you.

  • Alexandra replied 9 years ago

Ooh, beautiful pieces! I hope your dress works out. And I think there's nothing wrong with triplicating something that works. But of course, this is from somebody who would probably be perfectly happy with a wardrobe of five identical black dresses and a rainbow of colorful cardigans (all cut the same). So grain of salt probably needed.

  • Beth replied 9 years ago

Pic #3 is so inspirational! I'm looking forward to seeing the pieces you've ordered.

I agree that the Docs might not be exactly right, but oooh, that deep red leather is gorgeous. Maybe another red leather option? :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

I can't wait to see your order, the sweater dress especially.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Love this colour for you!  It is *almost" as awesome as black (just kidding).

I will be interested to see how #1 fits but if I were you, I would be triplicating the EF drape dress:)  Adore the outfit in #3 and so looking forward to seeing how they work out for you.  And I agree that while the shoes are stunners, they might not be quite right for you.

Do you ever look at Sarah Pacini?  They had some lovely red and plum tones recently and very fluid and there style is somewhat similar to EF, and readily available in Canada lol.

Loving all of your choices, especially the EF line. Such a rich, deep color.

I think you will have to see the oxfords in person. Not sure these will be streamlined enough for you, but you won't know until you see them in person.

  • Jeanie replied 9 years ago

This color will be so great on you.  I adore the #3 outfit and would love to see it with oxfords.  I love the docs too.

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

I love dark red too. It's one of those colors I've always been drawn to for my clothes.

I really love the two dresses and hope one or both work out, and also like the variety of textures in the third image. I like the Docs too, but do think they might come across as very casual.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Oh my oh my!! Love everything! Even the Docs! But the drape front EF dress is my absolute favorite! Can't wait to see what you decide and buy! This color will look stunning on you!

  • Traci replied 9 years ago

I can't wait to see how the long sleeved dress works on you.  I may have to copy that.

This red is one of my favorite colors.  I am a bit stumped in trying to differentiate it from some things I used to call burgundy, though.
