Ask Angie: and all YLFers for hem help

I'm going to be taking my new TR Cameron slim BF jeans to Wonder Woman today for hemming. I have started pinning hems myself - not that I don't trust her, I most certainly do - but it saves time when I go and drop off items and I always seem to be piggy-backing a bunch of errands so it's just more convenient.

I'm showing the jeans with my red booties first - unfortunately because there is about 4.5 inches of excess fabric folded under, they are not quite sitting right on the top of the boot which is pushing up the fabric a bit and bunching at the knee. So I'm not sure this is the best representation.

I then switched the boots to my patent pumps so that the legs sit properly. I think this probably shows the length more accurately.

I've pinned the legs so that they will work with my average fall/winter heel height, which is 1.5 - 2 inches. This will accommodate my two pairs of kitten heels, red booties, python booties, blue suede booties, cream oxfords and my new Fluevog oxfords. No more high heels for me :(

Does this look about right? shorter? longer?

    I think it looks good!

They look longer in #1 because your booties are lifting the hems. It all looks great, Shannon!

Before you chop, are you sure you don't want a little roll? See exhibit A and B.

Oooohh...I hadn't even thought of that Angie. I do like the look. Would that be too leg shortening on petite me?

I would keep them long enough to do a roll!

Alright then - Angie & Ceit, you have convinced me. So I will leave them pinned as they are and ask Wonder Woman to add 1 inch? Does that seem about right? And if I find that extra fabric becomes a problem, I can always have her shorten them later on.

    Nice buffer. Go for it.

Sounds good! I like the roll buffer.

    The roll sounds exciting!

Got my plan in place -thank you all (especially you Angie).

I am watching with interest. I still haven't had mine hemmed. I am sort of in between you and Angie. I've just been rolling them so far, but I honestly think the rolls would behave better if I took an inch or inch and a half off the overall length. Hmmmm.

    Your plan sounds good.

Yes, I was going to suggest a little longer.  I like Angie's idea!

First off, love your new jeans, Shannon!  Secondly, I'm so happy to see that you have that many shoe and boot choices, because when I choose a hem, I often seem to have limited footwear.

Like you, I'm a kitten heel cat and go no higher than two inches these days.

I think your pinning is spot on and I like the look in 4 and even 1, too, so you know what you're doing and making your tailor's job easy.

Suz - it seems like such a major commitment to go and get things hemmed sometimes don't you find? I have taken the jeans to Wonder Woman and she is hemming them precisely one inch longer than I have shown you here so that I can wear with one roll/cuff with the majority of my footwear, completely unrolled and scrunched with my Doc Marcies and with two rolls for flats. I think this will work really well.

Vicki - now that I don't wear any higher heels, I'm finding it much easier to choose my hem lengths. I would say that 80% of my footwear now falls in the 1.5 - 2 inch range. When I used to wear higher heels, it was really tough to decide on hem length because it meant the pants were committed to more limited shoe options.

Thanks for the advice ladies :)

I hemmed mine with some scrunch, bearing in mind that they taper, but enough off so I could roll without bulk.  I don't love the hem she made, which is wider than I'd like, but it does allow for me to let it out in the future if needed.
