What is on their way to me

Y'all know I had to pass on my Doc Marcie boots due to the heel height (waving at Una!). I've been waffling back and forth on what to replace them with that will give me the same vibe. Well it was pointed out in one of my previous boot threads that I should consider other Doc boots...well DUH!!! I don't know why I didn't think of that. Doc Martens work incredibly well for my wider high volume foot. And they have the support I need.

So these babies are on their way to me - they have the same shaft and foot as the Marcies, but a lower heel. The heel is not the gray I love on the Marcies, but I'm not going to get an exact replication.

I'm looking forward to getting these and upping my urban quotient again. And to those of you who have listened to me whine about my foot woes, my boot needs and provided me with dozens of fantastic options (I'm looking at you Inge!), thank you so much for your patience.

WIW: Sporty Vintage

My wee vacation break is over (the downside to changing jobs…less vacation the first year) and I'm back to work today. Decided to go a little sporty today and threw in a couple of vintage pieces for good measure.

The outfit started with my black front drape EF dress (I cannot get enough of this dress!). I added my bold floral bomber, with scrunched sleeves and my pinky-red Vans as my nod to the sporty luxe trend. Then for a bit of vintage, I chose my navy Coach handbag and my pink bakelite bangle. Red specs and silver wedding band finish off the outfit.

What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Smart Set
Dress: Eileen Fisher (eBay)
Shoes: Vans
Bangle: vintage
Handbag: Coach - vintage

K/R - Olsen Draped Cardigan (eta decision @ bottom)

I purchased this cardigan at Olsen Europe today (from my Fashion Fund jar) as a fall item. It was one of the items I had shown to the forum previously from the fall line up of Olsen Europe items that I'm quite smitten with. I had a visceral reaction to it when I tried it on today and promptly purchased it and brought it home. However now that I've had time to eat dinner and relax and try it on again, I'm now feeling less sure.

Pros:
- the fabric is divinely soft and despite the small metal studs, the cardigan is machine washable
- it fits my new style direction of comfort with style
- it's sort of a hybrid of Eileen Fisher and edgy/avant garde (well, at least in my mind)
- it fits in the shoulders
- I purchased it to wear over my black dress, with my black pencil skirt, with the charcoal waxed skinnies, ponte pants, etc - it has some versatility
- a nice change from a crisper blazer

Cons:
- quite expensive for a cardigan so needs to look good
- concerns that it might overwhelm my petite frame even though technically it fits
- is it really the "new me"?
- perhaps not as versatile as I think

I'm now confused as to whether I truly love the item, or the IDEA of the item, you know? I do think it looks better IRL due to its fluidity and movement but still…ok, give it to me straight. Keep or Return?

WIW: Last Day Linen

Today's my last day off work and I'm heading out to meet my BFF for lunch on a patio. And it is stinking hot and humid!

I thrifted this white Irish linen dress several months ago and always knew I was going to hack it into a tunic. It had a horrendous flounce on the bottom but had a double stitched hem at the perfect tunic top length. Grabbed my scissors this morning and voila - a lovely breezy linen top for the heat.

Paired it with my dark wash denim shorts, Birks, Coach bag, silver jewelry and Wayfarer sunnies.

Be back later...

WIW: Casual Coach

Hot and humid day for a day off work today and I have a ton of errands to run. Should have gotten an earlier start but the bed was so comfy..,

Today's outfit started with this boxy and slightly voluminous tee. I paired the tee with my dark wash Bermuda cut offs and trusty polka dot Birks.

And no time like the present to bust out...the present - lol! Debuting the navy Coach handbag gifted to me by DH. It is the perfect shape and size.

Alright off to pick up DS's birthday cake (he's 19 today), cat food, go to the bank, pick up my prescription and end it all with a delicious iced coffee at Starbucks.

Later...

Stunning Culottes Outfit

It's a Canadian holiday today so I'm home drinking a cup of coffee and reading the new Elle magazine - does it get any better than that?

Came across this page with a stunning culottes outfit and had to share since it relates to Angie's blog post today.

Playing Dress Up & the Worst Kept Secret

What does a gal do when her guys are out fishing and she has some rare time to herself? She plays dress up in her fall closet of course! Only a true Fabber would be trying on booties and sweaters when it's a hot and humid summer day :) I wanted to show you the two items I purchased a month ago for fall. I found both new with tags from my favourite eBay seller and am so pleased with both.

First up in pics 1 - 4 are the Eileen Fisher faux wrap jersey trousers http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ei.....nt/3583834. They need hemming so I have simply tucked them under for the purpose of these pics - so please ignore the excessive ankle scrunch. These are incredibly comfortable and will be my fall/winter slouchy trousers. And of course, black details do not show up in photos unfortunately. They have an elastic waist and so I will not be tucking into them, but at the same time want to keep the tops from being too long and obscuring the wrap/cross over detail. I like the idea of pairing the flowy trousers with a blazer or leather jacket in particular.

Second are the Eileen Fisher charcoal waxed skinnies http://www.eileenfisher.com/Ei.....ite+Skinny (also available at Nordstrom) in pics 5 - 8. I like how they aren't calf sucking and are ridiculously comfortable. Again, they need hemming so I have just cuffed them quickly there. I like the pairing of my EF drapey cardigan with them.

None of these outfits is particularly stellar and my hair and make up aren't done but I'm having fun playing with these new items. Any of these look like possible outfits for real? Any suggestions how else to style these?

The Calvin Klein jacket in pic #5 is an older item - I'm thinking of reintroducing it to my closet. It was temporarily in my probation pile but I'm kinda digging the longer length again. Keep or purge?

And finally - it is my 28th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks and a mysterious box arrived in the mail yesterday. Hubby quickly squirrelled it away. However this morning before leaving with DS to go fishing handed me the box and confessed he couldn't keep it a secret and this was my anniversary gift and he'd like to give it to me now. It contained the most gorgeous true navy vintage Coach leather handbag. I love this particular style of Coach bag and have seen it in black and cognac but never in navy. I've wanted a true navy quality leather handbag for a while now. My savvy eBay man has apparently been searching for a bit and finally found this one. I'm in love - with the handbag sure, but more importantly, with that man of mine :) Oh yes…and the zebra print scarf is also a gift from DH, from Danier Leather.
