WIW: Not a Dress

It's a bit too blustery here for me to be comfy in a dress so unfortunately for Dress Challenge Day 2, I'm wearing trousers.

But...that means I get to wear one of my new sweaters! Today I paired my espresso brown Esprit trousers with my new Esprit gold lurex sweater. I love this sweater! It is incredibly soft against the skin and to touch, has a wide boatneck and cabling detail down the front. It has a hi-low hem and is drapey enough to semi tuck without adding bulk.

Although I said recently that I was no longer loving earth tones for me, I don't consider this sweater in the earth tone family - I think the gold makes it more sci-fi, don't you?

I popped on my snakeskin belt for some interest and am using my red/animal print clutch for some pattern mixing and additional colour. Brown booties round out the outfit.

What do you think? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIW: Day 1 of Sona's Dress Challenge

It's still pretty cold here but I wanted to participate in Sona's dress challenge this week. This meant tights and layering. I started the outfit with my green & black Ikat print dress, to which I added opaque black tights. On top of that, I layered my black leather blazer (I wonder what the CPW is down to now?). For footwear, I went with my Blondo Vergara boots since the knee high nature of the boots will add extra leg warmth.

For my handbag, I went with my black/cream leather one. I felt like adding a hint of vintage so popped on my Czech vintage black beads necklace - it just sort of peeks out here and there in the cowl neckline of the dress but I like that.

So what do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

WIB: To get through the rest of winter

Further to my thread I started about getting sick of my winter wardrobe (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ng-sick-of), DH, MIL, DS and I went to check out the fab sales at The Bay and then stopped for a little family thrifting at my local Value Village. What a hoot - ages from 17 to 80 all shopping together! We had a blast and are now settling down for some appetizers and the Super Bowl.

But I had to post what I came home with first - these are in random order BTW. These items will get through to our true spring weather which hits around mid April. The items I bought at The Bay were all 30% off with an additional 50% off at the check out. Ridiculous! But I still made sure all were good quality and fit properly - you'd be proud of me Angie, I didn't let price make the decisions!

1. Esprit black and grey wool sweater. The sleeves are 3/4 length, the neckline is boatneck and there is a silver lurex stripe down the front slightly off centre. Will work well with jeans, slouchy trousers and black pencil skirt.

2. Material Girl off white with black sleeves bomber jacket - will be fab with jeans, over my black sheath dress and with my slouchy trousers.

3. Value Village - a gorgeous cream leather and silver cuff.

4. Value Village - silk floral scarf to perk up any winter outfit.

5. Esprit gold lurex knit sweater - with any of my black bottoms and with my brown lace skirt, Cleo multi coloured abstract print skirt, brown Esprit trousers.

6. Lord & Taylor cashmere Kelly green sweater (it looks more turquoise in the pics but it is a true green). Feels amazing on - will go with everything.

7. Jessica Simpson grey, slightly "beat up" skinnies - sized up to be more slouchy. Adore the fit of these and love the fact that they're not blue.

Sorry I don't have time to show you the items on - you'll just have to trust me! Hope you like my haul. I couldn't be more thrilled!

BTW - DH got a gorgeous Calvin Klein dress shirt; DS got two Fossil belts; MIL got a Lord & Taylor cashmere cardigan.

WIW: Dressing for the Cold

Today is supposed to be our coldest day of the year so far... -42 C with windchill. So comfort and warmth are paramount in today's outfit.

I started with this loose turtleneck striped sweater in cream and black, paired with my slouchy skinny jeans and a simple black belt with gunmetal buckle. For indoor footwear, I'll be wearing my python booties. For some additional texture and shine, I'm using my patent croc leather handbag with the big gunmetal clasp.

I have a question - is the outfit better with the sweater partially tucked (pics 1 and 2) or untucked (pic 3)?

BTW - when I step outside I will be wearing my jeans tucked into my Sorel boots, have on my knee length LE down coat, wooly scarf and wooly Thinsulate mitts.

What do you think? Does this work together? How are the proportions? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.
