WIW: Breezy Blouse for yet another scorching day

Not only has it been crazy hot here, the humidity is enough to make even my poker straight hair curl! So a breezy, light blouse was a must for today.

I'm breaking out my recently thrifted silk Laura Petites short-sleeved blouse that has different shades of blues and greens throughout. I've paired it with my white clams, cream coloured loafers and my green handbag, and popped on my white watch.

I'm happy with how this looks and I think I'm going to wear the heck out of this blouse. Even with the cami underneath, it is so light and airy.

What do you think? Proportions and combination ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blouse: Laura Petites (thrifted)
Clams: Reitmans

WIW: Black and White and Green

I don't know why I didn't think of this combination before. I've paired my black clams with this floaty white/black/green/blue striped blouse, more green with my Poetic Licence pumps and then even MORE green with my handbag. Then I've added a pop of white with my watch.

What do you think? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Playing with my new boyfriend... (ETA update on Sung's)

....jeans, that is!

I've decided to keep the Gap BF jeans and challenge myself to learn a new style. I'll consider it a fun adventure! Besides, I'm now committed to keeping them since I cut off the tags as well as two inches of excess fabric at the hem. I've tried my first attempt at pegging (thank you for the link Anna!) - haven't quite got it right I don't think, but I'll get it figured out.

These are a few first go's at how to style these jeans. Because we have such tremendous heat during the summer, these will not be worn until September rolls around. I have other ideas I want to try, but let's start with these.

Please let me know which ones you think work and which ones don't - and why those ones don't. I'll be very curious to see if your choices match mine. Would love your insight - thanks!

P.S. Sorry for the lack of a cami in pics #9/10 - I will obviously wear one when I got out in this sweater!

BTW - remember the Alfred Sung BF jeans in the lighter wash? Well, I couldn't find the receipt anywhere and tried to return them but was declined. Well, no biggie as I had only ended up paying $14 with a 30% sale. So I've hacked off the legs and they are now a fabulous pair of lighter wash BF shorts!

Slight International Shopping Rant

I ordered the Halogen seamed pencil skirt in black two weeks ago when it went on sale. It was $42 in price and with the shipping, taxes and duty, I paid $65.51. I guessed based on various reviews and comments on YLFers who own the skirt on the size but alas, it was too tight and I needed to size up. I have since ordered the larger size and contacted Nordstrom to get an international return authorization form to send the other one back. The return shipping and handling charges through Nordstrom's international shipper FiftyOne cost $35.09 resulting in me getting back a credit of only $19.95 for the $65 skirt. To be honest, not worth my hassle to even send it back. I emailed Nordstrom customer service to request they cancel my return authorization for the skirt since the cost was quite exhorbitant and that I will simply donate the skirt to the Salvation Army.

Based on this, I have decided to only order items from Nordstrom that I am 100% sure will fit and flatter. I can't afford these kind of mistakes. And ordering two sizes to determine which one fits still means I have to return the one that doesn't and it just isn't worth it.

I guess my local economy will be happy since I'll be spending my dollars at home. Now I'm wondering if I want to risk ordering the two dresses on my "fun money" list...

WIW: Hot Pink for a Hot Day

It's going to be +35 Celcius today with a humidex of +42 (that means with the humidity, it will FEEL like +42). Definitely a day for a sundress.

I'm wearing my hot pink J Crew silk blend sleeveless sundress with pockets. I know Angie had some concerns regarding the neckline and bottom volume of the dress, but I can't help it - I love this dress! It makes me want to twirl! I've paired it with my animal print Stuart Weitzman sandals, dark brown raffia tote and matching wood brown/pink necklace and bracelet. Normally I don't do the matching jewelry but it felt ok with this. I've also popped on my recently thrifted darker wash distressed denim jacket should the A/C try to freeze me in the office.

I'm so happy in this outfit I could dance! What do you think? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome. I would also like to point out that this outfit is 100% thrifted!

Jacket: Brody Jeans (thrifted)
Dress: J Crew (thrifted)

WIW: De-Bomshelling the new pencil skirt

Today I'm breaking out the new pencil skirt I just got - it's got tiered layers with the tiers all sewn down flat. It's very comfortable, completely lined and I think figure flattering. I've paired it with a recently thrifted blowsy top in a white/black/blue animal print. It's got pleating at the rounded neckline, flutter sleeves and is a light option for today's heat. I've popped on my Fly London sandals, added by black/white handbag and a blue bracelet for accessories. I then added my chunky black/silver leather belt to rein in the waist volume, accentuate my waist and add a bit of edge.

Does this outfit work? How are the proportions to your eye? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blouse: thrifted (no label)
Skirt: Laura Petites
Sandals: Fly London
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Bracelet: thrifted
Belt: Danier Leather (thrifted)

Keep or Keep: Jeffrey Campbell Oxfords

You'll notice there's no "return" option here - I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE SHOES!!! Super comfortable, perfect size, good looking quality and right up my style alley.

Angie - your recommendation on these shoes was spot on!

WIW: Back to Work

Wow that week off went by fast! Back at work this morning so time to wear my new green Ikat dress. I've paired it with my very comfortable Clark's black leather sandals and my black/white leather handbag. In case the A/C in the office is cold, I've popped on my white denim jacket. This is my favourite outfit formula of all time - dress, jacket, shoes, handbag...easy peasy...

How does this look to your eye? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: BUM Equipment (thrifted)
Dress: Cleo Petite
Sandals: Clark's
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Bracelet: thrifted

K/R: BF Jeans - Alfred Sung

Trying the Pure by Alfred Sung BF jeans in light wash. These are one size up for me. I tried the next size from that but they were disproportionately huge on my thighs.

What do you think? Do these work? If not, what's off with them? I like the light wash - gives a more relaxed and casual vibe. There's some crotch slouch but not too much. The cuffs can obviously be rolled higher or lower.

Over to you ladies...

WIW: White, cream and camel

I'm heading off to run a few errands and have definitely decided well fitting items are absolute KEY to me feeling good about what I'm wearing. As much as I've enjoyed a few "sloppy" days with baggy shorts and tees, I needed to wear something better fitting today. I also find I feel less "fat" with well fitting items.

I started with my white bermuda shorts that actually began as clams at the wrong length. But they fit well in the waist and behind so figured Wonder Woman could do something with them. She chopped them off at bermuda length and slightly tapered the thigh for me and voila - here they are. Then I added a newly thrifted graphic white tank, my cream loafers (new favourite summer shoes) and my camel handbag. The handbag isn't the best with this but I didn't feel like switching out my handbag today so it will have to do.

What do you think? does this work? proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Tank: Adagio (thrifted)
Shorts: Jones & Co (thrifted and altered)
